Hobbs long course.

On the way to the 2nd control I turned my right ankle. I must have stepped on one of those tennis ball sized rocks that are scattered around in the forest. I thought about quitting. But when I stood up my ankle felt uncomfortable but not really unstable. I walked slowly to 2. Then I walked to 3. I decided I'd keep walking as long as it felt uncomfortable but not unstable. I made it around the entire course. I jogged a little bit on the trails to 14 and 17.

I've no idea how my ankle will recovery. There's some swelling, but it doesn't feel too bad and it doesn't seem to be unstable. I can stand on one leg, so that seems good. I'll probably wear an active ankle when I run the Possum Trot in a couple of weeks.

be-the-map did a nice job with organizing the event. A few locals attended and seemed enthusiastic. It'd be fantastic to see a club start up in north west Arkansas. be-the-map has also made a campus sprint map of NWACC.

We had a nice meal with JJ and Nancy before driving home. JJ's working on Swedish and is impressively good. He's better at Talk Four but maybe his Swedish will pass that soon.

Note

I wonder if some of the same methods we used when PTOC/OK hosted the interscholastic championships would help address "fair play" at World Cup races?

I don't know what the World Cup environment is like these days. Back when I ran a few (late 1980s/early 1990s) there was plenty of following going on. I think that still goes on. You'd see a top runner leading a small pack of the 3-4 runners who started immediately ahead of them. That didn't seem to raise many concerns about "fair play." There's some boundary where people cross over some line and it becomes a problem. I'm not clear where that boundary is.

running 45:00 [2]

Shuffled around on West Campus. We had a little bit of snow falling. And some wind blowing. It was nice. I was happy that I managed to get the clothing just right for the conditions.

Note

No exercise tonight...spent my time grading papers that were due last night at midnight. I'm almost done. I should finish tomorrow and get the grades posted. The last assignment I took far too long to grade.

Note

Felt off all day. Came home after work and took a 35 minute nap. Felt better.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Ran on the trails at Rockhaven. I felt ok, but ran slowly. I was a bit tired at the end. The trails are rough from all of the horse traffic and soft trails. I guess that is good training, but it feels like a chore after about an hour.
