Sunflower Games orienteering at Gage Park in Topeka. Fritz set the course and did a lot of work updating the map. Very fun.
Many Sunflower Games sports were cancelled. Orienteering was one of the few that worked in a social-distance-mask-wearing world.
The course was fun. Fritz put a lot of thought into each leg. He also designed the course to keep us in the shade as much as possible. That was very much appreciated. Running the course reminded me of the old VP Fair 10K orienteering at Forest Park in St Louis.
We had decent attendance. Down from before, but good considering we're in the middle of a pandemic. As best I could tell, people were taking the social distancing and mask wearing seriously.
After the race, Reta came up to me with a ziplock bag full of beans from her garden!
Longish, slow and easy jog. I carried my 1:10,000 map of Lawrence.
The map is a summer project. I'm not going to field check the map. But as I run and spot changes, I'll make those. I can make a lot of improvements from air photos. I will also import some of the existing sprint maps from around town. This morning I added West Campus forest from Ulrik's map.
