Saturday Oct 30 #

10 AM

running 1:05:00 [2]

Easy jogging on West Campus. I went over to the West of Ulrik's map and checked out the terrain a bit. Some deep grass. I also ran on a couple of the trails on West Campus. Still rough. I'm ready for the leaves to fall and some cooler weather.

2 PM

MTB cycling 1:10:00 [1]

A bit of biking on pavement and the levee.

I went by some of the set up for tomorrow's bike race. The start and finish are downtown. It looks like it is a big event. If I wake up early I may go down and watch the starts (730 and 740, I think).

Friday Oct 29 #

I went to the celebration of life for Reta at a coffee shop in Parkville.

Thursday Oct 28 #

6 AM

running 40:00 [2]

Morning headlamp jog. Temp was mid 50s and rain fell. I wore a ball cap to keep the rain off my glasses and wore the headlamp on the ball cap.

Running in the rain was mostly nice. My hands got a bit chilly when the wind picked up. I had gloves with me, so I was prepared.

I jogged through the tunnel under Iowa Street. Someone was sleeping in the tunnel. I'd never seen that before. I tried to be quiet and not disturb him. It must be tough to be without a roof over your head on a rainy night.

Also, got a message from Cristina-bot this morning:

"The race is tight! You and Cristina have trained the same number of minutes over the past week!"

Wednesday Oct 27 #

6 AM

running 40:00 [2]

Morning headlamp jog.

The temp was warmer than I'd expected.

The rain had stopped by the time I got up. And it didn't start raining again until after I was finished.

I've only seen two other runners on my morning runs all week. Usually I see 3-5 each day.

I was in the office today and so were all of my co-workers. That's just the third time all year we've all been at the same place at the same time. Everyone was at the office for the Audit Committee meeting.

Tuesday Oct 26 #

6 AM

running 40:00 [2]

Morning jog. First time this season with gloves for the entire run.

Monday Oct 25 #

I went for a slow walk on West Campus after work. Nice evening.
6 AM

running 20:00 [2]

Easy morning headlamp jog. Felt ok. A little bit windy but I was dressed just right.

I'm trying to decide what, if anything, I do after work tonight. Bike ride? Walk? rest? I'm undecided.

Sunday Oct 24 #

running 1:00:00 [2]

Ran but also stopped frequently to look at something on the map. I was on the trails/grass/forest of the Riverfront Park map (started from the dog park/disc golf parking). The map needs work before we use it. The current plan is to have the January 1 event on the map. It'll be fun to have some very unusual terrain. Setting courses will be a bit of a challenge as the map is long and very narrow.

I jogged a bit on the levee on the way back. I chatted a bit with a runner who was just past 21 miles on a 24 mile run. He's training for the Garmin Olathe Marathon.

We got some sad news this afternoon. Reta Roe passed away. I knew she'd been doing poorly and the news wasn't entirely unexpected. Sad. She will be missed in the local orienteering community.

Reta would be at almost all of the local events (and she travelled a fair amount, too). She did a lot of work for PTOC. She made maps. She set courses. She worked registration.

If you ran the Possum Trot a few years ago at the Park University campus, you ran on one of her maps. You may remember that race - the course started on a sprint map of the campus, then went into a special map of an underground cave, and then came back up and finished on the sprint map.

Reta was possum on Attackpoint.
