| Warmup/down. Had to get my workout in early because Kate's not feeling too well so I've got Baby-O duty. |

| Emmenegger Test Loop. No chance of a PR with the woods filling in. I think I was a bit off as well. Maybe the 6:30AM start, maybe something else, but things just didn't feel right. |

| Schedule called for an easy day, so I worked on map contact at Rockwoods Range (1:15). Managed to stay reasonably focused despite the slow pace. Really nice day to be out. |

| My enthusiasm for getting out and running today was about as low as I can remember it. However, I noted that I wasn't too enthused about sitting at my desk either, so I figured running wasn't the problem. Managed to get myself over to the gym and ran to Forest Park. |
 | Terrain (Mix) 1:07:00 [2] | |
| |
| By the time I got to the park I was feeling a lot better about running. Ran a loop around the park. Mostly on grass, but also some gravel paths and woods trails. |

| Putting out/picking up controls for the sprint at Lafayette (1:3). Turnout was light, which I expected given the light rain and cool temps (plus the fact that I really haven't been promoting these things). Those who came seemed to enjoy it plenty. |

| Testing another contender. Ran both at tempo pace. Distance seems about right. I think I like the first one better, even though it will involve the extra work of a map exchange. This park is tiny, but fun. |

| Easy jogging around the park before and between. |

| Super easy spin in the 60" gear. Legs are toast - I guess all these longer races are catching up with me. |

| Spent more time than planned with Baby-O yesterday. That's not a bad thing, but I didn't get the maps done for the SLOC meet until after midnight. I decided I'd drop the maps at David's and then head off for Chicago, stopping to sleep as needed. Despite frequently honoring that plan, I kept getting drowsey. At about 6AM I decided to go the opposite route and run some intervals to try to perk up. 3x400@90 200R. It worked well enough. I drove the remaining 2 hours to Chicago without difficulty. |
 | Terrain (Grass) 20:00 [2] | |

| Totally lame warmup. I felt like crap. I didn't let it bother me because I often race well when I don't feel good at the start. |

| Which is exactly what happened. Won the Curse of the Goat (CAOC) at Palos Hills North (1:15). Fairly large group through the first half dozen controls, then things started to break up. By #13, it was just me and Audun Botterud with Jeff Shaw a few minutes back in third. Two skips were allowed and I decided to stay with him in skipping 14 and 17. Opened a pretty good gap on the long leg to 19 but gave it back by overrunning the control. He got to within a few seconds of me at 20, but I had a bit more in the tank for the last 500m.
Excellent course designed by Maricel Olaru. Woods were thorny in spots. Now my arms match my legs from last weekend. Really hot for this time of year. I was glad I was wearing my Camelbak. |
