Terrain (Mix) 10:00 [2]

Warmup. Didn't have much time since I was also the meet director. After sending everyone out on the mass start, I got in a short jog before heading out myself.

SLOC 3-hour at Hawn (1:15). Nice course by David Welsh - was tougher than I gave it credit for. I expected the winning time to be under 2:30, and it may have been if Mikell had decided to head this way prior to the Possom Trot. However, there was nobody in this field going to touch that mark. David Frei was the only other person to sweep.

Was pretty conservative for the first hour. Wasn't warmed up all the way, the woods were green, and some of the locations seemed like the sort where you could lose a bunch of time. Started running a lot harder in the second hour where I was going through more open areas. Overcooked it just a bit and faded near the end, but it was still good enough for the win. No big nav errors, something like 5 minutes worth of little stuff.

Control pickup with Nish. We talked through the plan for each leg and then he led and I shadowed him. He's getting a lot better. Made the pickup more fun.

Note

Note for any readers of my Carol's Team blog. I'm really sorry about the extended outage (and just about as mad as I can be at the provider). I'll post here when I get the site hosted somewhere a bit more responsive.

Cycling (Road) 1:02:00 [2]

In to work. Later start than usual should have meant more traffic, but I guess a lot of people are off this week. Still hit a bunch of lights.

Cycling (Road) 1:16:00 [2]

Back from work via Midland. Really nice out - probably last short-sleeve riding day of the year.

Running (Road) 25:00 [2]
weight:163lbs (rest day)

Late night run after a very long day of work just to loosen up a bit. Warm and humid. Felt like when I train nights in the summer to avoid the heat.

Running (Track) 59:00 [3]

5x800@2:53 400R. Been blowing this workout off for a couple months. For some reason I don't much like running 800's. Almost did again. I woke up early enough to run before Baby-O woke up, but made too much noise and she woke up and wanted to snuggle. That sounded like more fun, so we did that until breakfast time. So, the new plan was to run at 10:00, but everybody else got up around 9 so Baby-O and I had second breakfast with them which left me too full to run hard. Spent the rest of the morning hanging and finally decided I should head back to St. Louis. Kate and Baby-O are staying another day - I was taking her sister's old car so I'll have something until I figure out the fate of the WRX (her new car is a 1996 Civic and she's all excited about how nice it is, so that gives you some insight into her old car). Still, a ride's a ride, and it drives fine, it just has a broken driver's seat, non-functional sound system, and generally looks like hell. When I got home, I weighed myself and found that I had bulked up all the way to 164, which means I basically didn't gain any weight at all. Figured I'd go ahead and run just to see what happened and it ended up feeling OK, although the last one was labored (but still a 2:52.6). Was going to have a pizza for dinner, but I couldn't find the coupons I'd set aside, so I cooked instead and then had some ice cream. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow.
