Taking the day completely off wouldn't have been a terrible idea, but this is March, so I needed to spend some time on a map. I went for an easy jog checking out the base map for Eric's Hood West. A fair bit of interesting stuff that didn't show up well on the aerials. LaNDO (Late Night Drunken O) might actually require some navigation skill this year.

Gateway Grunt at Hawn (1:15). Really glad we structured the meet so I'd be free to run this one, because it was just about as fine a race as I've ever participated in. Excellent course set by Bill, another bright, cool day, and, the great terrain at Hawn.

Didn't bother warming up because I knew I wouldn't have the legs to hang with the leaders. Was a bit shocked to find myself all the way back around 20th place at the first control, though. Good nav carried the day and I managed to run clean enough to get 5th overall. More to follow.

Wasn't at all upset when Bill told me control pickup was covered. I'm whupped.

Lots of running around doing busy meet director stuff. I think 200m from registration to start is probably the worst distance. It's not far enough to force you to be efficient, but far enough that you get pretty tired out sprinting back and forth.

Putting out controls stands for the Middle at Hawn (1:10). Also ran a few extra legs, despite having a head cold, dead legs, and too much to do. Because? Seriously, it's Hawn, 50F, and sunny. This is what we do.

A couple warmup legs and then the Forest Park Blue Sprint (1:5)@14:57 to make sure the latest (and final) map made sense at speed. I'm pretty pleased with what we've got now. Perfect time of year to be using Kennedy Woods; the straight routes would be taken out of play by vegetation any later and the ground would be mush any earlier. Now there are real decisions to be made and I think the map gives you what you need to get it right.

Probably shouldn't have run so hard with a cold, but it sure was fun.

Family class with Yaya. With testing coming up, class focused on forms and I wanted to take it easy, anyway.

But I still stuck around for sparring class. Got my ass kicked. Really, with a pretty firm spin heel from a 3rd deg Black Belt. Nice bruise that will be there for a few days.

Family class with Yaya. Took me a while to get going as my head is pretty stuffed from the cold, but once going I felt OK. I think the activity helped.
