Got back in time to slide in a quick ride at CC Lake. Perfect conditions.

Then family class with Yaya. Was really hungry by the time that was all done.

Word is that it was pretty nice conditions at Boston today. 2:05:51 should be ample evidence of that. Ah well, they've run it 114 times, I'm pretty sure they'll run it again. Meanwhile, it was also a very fine day for mapping section 13. Out of order because I've been trying to get a decent base done from the aerials. I should have put this one on the total remap list. Lot's of vegetation change and a bunch of new trails as well.
7 PM

Skating (Road) 24:00 [2]

Skated while Yaya rode after dinner.

Did some hiking with Yaya after church, then got over to CC Lake. Perfect trail conditions except for the fact that it was apparently national take your dog for a walk on the mountain bike trails day. Not really a problem as I wasn't pushing the pace and all the owners were reasonably good about getting their pooches out of the way. Plus, unlike some of my cycling bretheren who seem to think the world owes them a venue, I'm fully aware of the politics of the situation. If it comes to a head, it's the mountain bikers who will get kicked out.

CR section 15. Got an early start this morning since I was supposed to show up for a kid birthday party in the afternoon. I was late and wasn't too unhappy about that. I really don't like kid birthday parties much.
6 PM

Running (Road) 25:00 [3]
shoes: 2140 White

Decided to run while Yaya road instead of skating today. Turns out, she rides at about a 6:30 pace, so this was basically a tempo run with no warmup. Fun stuff.
7 PM

Cycling (Road) 22:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Redline tandem

Another after dinner ride on the tandem with Yaya.

CR Section 16. Good sized area - much easier when the old map actually means something. Started to rain after a couple hours; first time in a couple weeks (this is April, right?) Finally getting something for my investment in a tablet. Actually, while I did get it to so I could map in any weather, it's been a useful took even in the ideal conditions we've been having. It's nice to be able to switch the background between the base map, the old map, and the aerial photos at a whim. Also nice to not have to keep juggling five different color pencils. On the downside, OCAD is not the best user interface for field checking. I'm thinking of writing my own program for that.
6 PM

Skating (Road) 20:00 [2]

Yaya wanted to ride her own bike today, so I followed on skates.
7 PM

Cycling (Road) 22:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Redline tandem

After dinner, she decided she wanted to ride the tandem after all.

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 30:00 [2]
weight:173lbs (injured)

Family class with Yaya. In my panic to get all the nasty mapping out of the way before the woods get too green, I've neglected a lot of other things. Plus, I've mapped all the sections that I have a base map for. So, I took the day off from the woods to get a little more drafting done and a few other chores.

Cycling (Road) 22:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Redline tandem

Then Yaya and I went out for a sunset ride.

CR Section 12. Last of the vegetation re-writes. And there was much rejoicing. During the vegetation survey, I thought this would be an easy one because it looked like I'd just map everything as slash. At a more careful pace, no such luck. Yes, most of it is deadfall and thorns, but it bounces between stuff you can run through and stuff you can't, so there were a lot of boundaries (and, of course, none of them were visible from the photo's - it just looks like a big mess from the air. Anyway, it's done, and it's actually pretty usable terrain in the hands of a decent course setter, so the work may be of value.
6 PM

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 30:00 [2]

Got back just in time for family class with Yaya.

Running (Road) 43:00 [2]
shoes: 2140 White

Then got in a run while she did sparring class. Bad news. I don't think I can do Boston. Even an 8-minute pace felt like it was straining the back. If I was in decent shape, I'd try to gut it out, but I'm not. I think I'll just wait for next year.
