Completely off by design. Everything is under water anyway. Yaya is going bonkers because she got a bunch of candy at church, as well as her Easter basket. Kate and I are just hanging out until I get going on dinner. Nice relaxing menu today. Everything requires cooking time and it's no big deal if any of it sits for a few minutes, so it's an easy pace in the kitchen.

Warmup, 2 miles at marathon pace, then 10 easy with the St. Charles Running Club. Promised myself I wouldn't go over 2 hours and almost broke that because I was talking with Ken DeBeer and lost track of the time. Turned off just in time to get to the 2nd Street Bike Shop under the wire where we enjoyed the usual post-run breakfast. Last time eating there with the group this year as the run moves to St. Peter's starting in May and I obviously won't be there next Saturday. It's a fun spot; I'll miss it.

No work today, and if it hadn't rained all night and morning, it would have been a fine afternoon for finishing the CC Lake map. However, to go in there now would simply be to map it as one big marsh, which it certainly won't be in the fall. With more rain on the way, I expect it will be a few weeks before water levels return to normal. So, it'll be some fun times wandering through the stinging nettle as it fills in.

Went for an easy barefoot jog around Millenium Park.

Easy spin into work. Really nice sunrise just as I got to Forest Park. Chatted with a few other bike commuters along the way. Nice to see so many more people doing this. Granted it was the perfect morning for it, but I don't recall seeing so many bikes on the road a few years ago. High gas prices have something to do with that, I'm sure.

Grass Arch. Thought about doing a few extra laps around the arch grounds, but the legs were dead and when they didn't perk up after 20 minutes, it was obvious that there would be no value in extra distance.

Home from work (bike has been there for a week now) including 20 minutes of tempo. Followed immediately by the run.

Duck(P)@18:12. A whopping 1-second improvement from last week!

Wasn't sure the legs were up to a split tempo session yet, but I didn't want to move this one any closer to the marathon itself. So, the compromise was to do the first tempo session on the bike. That worked out pretty well and it was nice to finally hammer (or, as close as you can come to hammering in a 62" gear) on the bike. Tempo section was net uphill and into the wind, so I wasn't winding out the gear too crazy. Probably best not to be crunching a big gear since there was a bit of a chill in the air.

This wraps the quality work for the marathon prep. Just some easy miles this weekend and then the dial-in next week. I honestly don't ever remember a training cycle going this close to plan. Yes, there was the trouble with the heel, but I really didn't have to change much to keep it under control. All the quality workouts got done (as in, every single one) and the volume was where I wanted it. How that will translate on race day remains to be seen, but it sure is nice to show up with no excuses.

More CC Lake flood plain woods. Judging by how much green has appeared in the last few days, it seems it would be a very good idea to finish this up real soon.
