Chubb from the Lone Elk Horse Trailer Lot. 1:52 for the Chubb proper. T-effort from the tracks to the picnic table (in 9:30), M-effort everywhere else.

Wanted to do this workout on roads, but decided it might be a bit brutal with the wind filling in (ambient temp 18F, wind chill 0). Figured Chubb would be frozen over and it basically was. Tons of debris along the river; probably slowed me down a minute or so each direction. Not little stuff either; entire trees including their root stocks that clearly came from somewhere far upstream.

Ridge trails at Castlewood. Another workout that served no purpose beyond giving some air to my soul. And that's plenty reason enough.

Running (Track) 1:41:00 [4]

8x200@40 200R at PCH on the way into work.

Now that's what a track workout is supposed to be. First six were all clustered between 39.5 and 40.3. Last two were 39.2 as the legs felt like going. I guess it now takes 3.5 days to recover from a long m-pace run; gets longer each year.

Left a little later than usual since I hate running track in the dark. Spent the time getting dinner prepped. Significant technical breakthrough on that front.

Only downside is that, unlike North which is a mile from my house, Central is midway between work and home, so there was nearly five miles of running after the reps. By the end, the cumulative effect of two sessions in 14 hours was definitely being felt. But, I didn't mind because I was pretty happy about being able to write off yesterday as just hitting it too soon after Sunday.

Totally unnecessary workout but how often do you get to ride in shorts in January? Easy spin helped the legs recover as much as sitting around would have.

8x400@88 200R at PNH on the way home from work. Really came up lame on this one. I had planned on 600's, but the first was such a trainwreck (400@93) that I bagged it and decided that it would be better to run the right pace than the right distance. Did find i-pace after the second (90). Remaining splits were 88, 89, 88, 88, 87, 87. Hoping this is just the legs being a bit sluggish due to the rather rapid ramp up in mileage following exams. Otherwise, a sub-3 in 7 weeks isn't looking very likely.

In to work. Warm enough (35F) at the start that I thought about riding in to give the legs a break. They were fine, though. Pace was easy, but normal base miles easy, not dead legs plodding easy. Felt good enough to take a longer route through Green Trails and Conway to get some shelter from a rather stiff breeze preceding the cold front. Temp had dropped 10 degrees by the time I got to work.

Home from work at a fairly decent clip as the stiffness from yesterday hasn't set in yet. Tomorrow morning's run in will likely be a much different thing.
