Frostbite half. I think this confirms that grad school has put an end to my competitive running. No way I'm going sub3 at Woodlands.

SLOC Green at Babler (1:10). By the time I got out to Babler, the meet had shut down. Managed to extract a map from one of the folks picking up controls in exchange for the promise to pickup the three controls unique to Green. Between Babler's increasingly crappy woods, the morning race, stopping to take down controls, and the fact that I've done absolutely no training in the woods in the last year, the pace was comically slow. Still, a very fine day to be in the woods and the easy work helped freshen the legs considerably. Somewhat surprisingly, my nav was spot on.

In to work, taking the bus nearly the whole way. Legs felt great; back, not so much. Hams have been tight all week. I should be able to run the half OK, but I'm afraid that Babler is going to be relegated to control pickup only. Bounding through the woods when my back is iffy is not a good plan.

Home, again using the bus for most of it.

Terrain (Snow) 35:00 [2] *
shoes: Sayonara 2

In to work via bus. Took the first bus figuring it would be the least late (only 2 inches of snow, but that's enough to snarl things around here). Only had to wait 7 minutes. NWS says it was only 10 degrees, but it didn't feel that cold. No wind helps.

8x2:00T 1:00R. Trying to run a dial-in on a snow covered track didn't sound like it would help me much this weekend. The roads were clear, so I threw some T-level efforts into the run home. We'll just have to run the first mile firm and hope it's not too far off on Saturday.

Note
(rest day)

Didn't really mean for it to be a complete off day, but no harm done as I'm wanting to get a good read on fitness this weekend, so I need to be rested.

Terrain (Trail) 2:09:00 [2] ***
shoes: Rocklite 315

Waited until the "heat" of the day to run. Took advantage of the fact that the flooded sections of the powerline were frozen solid and ran Wholehearted. A little ploddy at the start, but had my stride by half an hour in. The fact that the powerline has no shelter from the wind gave me some motivation to get to the woods quicker. Once in the woods, the temp (15F) was fine.

Chubb from the Lone Elk Horse Trailer Lot. 1:52 for the Chubb proper. T-effort from the tracks to the picnic table (in 9:30), M-effort everywhere else.

Wanted to do this workout on roads, but decided it might be a bit brutal with the wind filling in (ambient temp 18F, wind chill 0). Figured Chubb would be frozen over and it basically was. Tons of debris along the river; probably slowed me down a minute or so each direction. Not little stuff either; entire trees including their root stocks that clearly came from somewhere far upstream.
