6 AM

Terrain (Gravel) 25:00 [2] *
shoes: Lyte33 2

Pre run around the campsite.
10 AM

Terrain (Woods) 30:00 [2] **
shoes: Oroc 280

Feeling a bit more confident than yesterday, I took a proper warmup.

Orienteering (Woods) 54:26 [3] *** 5.8 km (9:23 / km)
11c shoes: Oroc 280

That's more like it. A few slow legs, but that was just because I got off the gas to maintain map contact. 3rd on Green; 1st M50.

Best news is that the legs really felt springy. So much so that when the safe route to 9 presented itself as going right over the top of a steep spur, I didn't even consider the around route. Hopefully, they'll feel this good next Sunday when I really need them.

9 AM

Terrain (Gravel) 20:00 [2] *
shoes: Oroc 280

Intentionally short warmup in hopes I might get more than 500m into the course before exiting the map.

Orienteering race (Woods) 1:15:00 [3] *** 6.7 km (11:12 / km)
11c shoes: Oroc 280

Well, better than yesterday so that's something. Two big booms including another off-map excursion. Pulled it together and ran the second half quite well. There's hope.

Terrain (Dirt) 30:00 [2] *
shoes: Lyte33 2

Pre-run. As I was camped right by the start, I just ran the forest roads.
9 AM

Terrain (Woods) 20:00 [2] **
shoes: Oroc 280

Warmup. Intentionally short. Just practiced running through the terrain a bit as the last time I was on this stuff was 2007.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:20:00 [3] ***
8c shoes: Oroc 280

RMOC Green at Twin Boulders (1:10).

Well, that didn't go well. Big enough boom on 2 that I decided I was completely out and in danger of not getting back to Denver in time to collect Yaya. So, I made a training session of it, running a few makeshift legs and stopping to try to make sense of the map. We'll see if it helps tomorrow.

Note

Pretty full day of driving. Had dinner with my brother in law in Denver. Then up to Medicine Bow for overnight. It was dark when I got there so I just went right to sleep even though I knew that would have me stiff in the morning. It's not like fitness is going to be the limiting factor.
