Parts of the M35 course from Njudung's event this spring. Twisted my ankle and had to slow down and cut it short.

Wednesday Jun 20

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]
Running 10:00 [1]
Njudungsflåset, Nabben.
VERY different terrain compared w/ NavStock...Still hilly, maybe even more hills. Typical Smalandish wilderness terrain. Unfortunately, the two storms "Gudrun" and "Per" hit this area hard, so it was pretty rough running. Not for everybody.

Running 15:00 [1]
The long was very tough. Very tough. Seperated the men from the boys and a worthy test. I misread the map to #1 and planned for #7 first, but I took the wrong route anyway. I took the trail that went NW from the start. It didn't save me any climb. I guess I was in denial. My body was tired today and Nick caught me to 5, and I had hardly done any mistakes, although going NE out from #4 was perhaps not the best route choice. Both Nick and I missed 6 and to 8, he was gone (I did see him miss that one though). To 10, I went left and took the trail just S of 23 and then straight on. After that I only did two mistakes: 12, I went straight N out from 11 and had to "back track" and Nick caught me again to 13. Jon caught me to 23 and I was now getting really tired, but still running. I saw Nick again at 24, and I punched just before Jon and Nick at 26, but they beat me with 45 seconds to the finish line.
Orienteering race 1:55:00 [3]

Saturday Jun 16

Orienteering race 40:00 [4]
Running 30:00 [1]
AM: Made 20 seconds on the first one perhaps, my impression is that the re-entrant stopped much earlier before the control than shown on the map, but I could be wrong. I was lucky on the second control. Caught Chris P to number three and ran hard to 4, 5 and 6, but made 30 seconds on 6, I read it as a ridge, not a re-entrant. Got lost to 7, way to the left, lost maybe as much as 2 min, and I didn't catch Chris until 9 again. To 10, my shoe started to fall apart. No problem with 11, but to 12, I went right - should have gone left, and dropped off my sole. So running to 13 with practically only one shoe I caught Chris again, but we both made 20-30s. Hesitated 15 sec at 14, but the remaining two no problems. Not a stellar race, and I wouldn't have been surprised if Jon and/or Nick had beat me.
Orienteering race 15:00 [4]
Running 30:00 [1]
PM: A bit easier than expected, and I did a good race. Went straight to seven and got stuck + had to go around parts of the out-of-bounds, so going right, using trails would have been better. I drifted slightly off to 12 and lost maybe 5-10 seconds there, but I was getting tired too. At 13, I didn't look carefully enough at the map and/or decription and ran around the northern building (however, my initial plan was to run between the buildings, but that was impossible. Junk). Very impressive run by Jon anyway.

Running 35:00 [1]
Ancaster Old Mill Race - 35.45. 20 sec better than last year. I was hoping for a new Old Mill PB, but the cool weather and the fact I felt good running last year, I expected >36 min. Didn't feel particularly strong in the hills, but I kept it together well except last km.
