| The negative side with being a stay at home dad for a few days...Lia has had some stomach problems for a few days and she passed that little bug on to me. No one wants to no the details, but my total food consumption Saturday was a bowl of cereal, a banana, some pretzel and half a hamburger. Needless to say I felt pretty weak running.
Race 1 - middle distance - only one mistake, but it was over a minute I lost on a relaitvely easy control (#4). But, otherwise a clean race. The fact that I had a rough day physically probably helped me focus better. Didn't want to do any extra running. Race 2 - sprint - ouch. Made one big error on one control. Worst mistake this season so far. Legs super heavy. Race 3 - Walden Mall. Raid feeling at Macey's.

| Day 2 of my quarantine. Even warmer today. Took Lia for another trip to show her the bridge over 403. When she was sleeping, I did 10 x Nancy Green and 8 x Frankensteps. I read Wil's and Pither's reports from Czech so I though hill training could be good. | ||

Thursday Apr 17 | ||
| Running 1:20:00 [1] | ||
| I am on a measles break. I was at the Ontario Science Center with my students the day the health people think "the outbreak" started. I had the measles when I was 2, but there is obvioulsy no record of that so today I went to a lab to get some bloodwork done and I am not allowed to work until they have the results. I have had worse days.
20-22C and a run with Lia to 403 plus some extra. Legs are still tired, but a bit longer runs in a slow pace, preferably in the woods on soft surface but that's hard with a jogger, have worked in the past.
Wednesday Apr 16 | ||
| Running 45:00 [1] | ||
| hung/picked up controls at Jack Darling Park in Miss. First time ever on the MrPither made map. I had 57 kids running around. Everything set up w/ SI of course. There are few naturals, and so some really strong runners too - but most importantly: the kids had fun. | ||

| The Raid with Paul and Jeff.
A very tough day. Felt already driving to Rocky Ridge that the legs were tired and although the pressure in my sinuses was gone, my cold was still there. I knew Jeff and Paul were in great shape, so I also knew I would be the limiting factor twice - just not techincally but also physically. Technically, it wasn't a stellar race. I did a few minutes on #5 and another 5 min on #9 (I think it was #9, I am going by memory). I also had problems following the blue markers between #2 and #3. The tactic was to do my, or our team's, thing and we were leading the way for most part and had actually a few minutes on the 2nd team at #8, but the mistake at #9 was crucial. Physically, it was uphill from the beginning. Already on the long trail run to #2 and #3, where we should have increased the pace significantly, could I only manage to keep regular long distance pace. The real struggle started after #14, and I was able to keep things together all the way to past the Walk the Line, but after that it was just painful. The pain actually continued after the finish and I had my worst post-race moment ever. I have done many raids, several Vasaloppet and other long ski races where I have been pushing hard from the start, Iroqouia Trail Run, etc. and even a 24h rogaine, but I have never experienced anything like this at all before. Luckily, I got some Advil and a bunch of other painkillers, and after some food and some rest, I did recover, but those 30 minutes were awful. It didn't take many minutes to realize the cause of my weak moment: the raid itself of course, but the cold and not being able to eat properly until two days before the raid, and my average of 5.5 hours of sleep per night for the past week certainly made the ground work. I guess I am, sometimes, not as strong as I think I am. Anyway, I felt much better already Saturday night and the legs, and the rest of the body, were only suffering from normal post-raid symptoms.

| 2 x sprint races. Feeling a bit better but cough and sinus is bothering.
#1. Ouch. Stiff legs and definitely no kick. Got nothing for free in this one and that was too bad because I did a clean race. However, happy w/ placing - 4th. #2. OUCH. Had nothing in me and it felt like I was more or less stumbling my way around the course. Another clean race but obviously lost lots of time running. Placing still ok though - 5th.

| Orienteering race 40:00 [4] | ||
| Not feeling well at all, but I managed to focus on the orienteering the entire course - almost, and I had a good race technically. One minute in total on two controls but that was about it. The course was relatively easy - more like a long sprint. The winning time was good though and a time hard to beat even if I had felt healthy. | ||
