With Adria. Ainslie/Wilson/Jerseyville to ACC and back.

Running 21:00 [1] 3.5 km (6:00 / km)

Bruce Trail to Chedoke stairs and home with Isak. Legs felt fine I thought but they start to protest when speed is picked up.

Running 54:00 [1] 9.0 km (6:00 / km)

Bruce trail/rail trail with Adria and then Isak. Seems like I am recovering much faster from this marathon experience than my previous one. Nice to be out and running on trails in a gentle pace.

Note

A day when you wished you lived and worked in one storey buildings. Up the stairs - np. Down - brutal.

Running 3:13:00 [4] 42.19 km (4:34 / km)

A tough race. Cold start of the day and waiting in a tent for a couple of hours before start reminded me of Birkie. Walking down ti the start, I started to feel warmer and decided to drop all my extra clothes after all even though I kept the touque for a few kilometers.
Took a fewminutes after the gun got off to actually reach the start line and for the first few k's you were pretty much stuck where you were among all the runners. After a few minutes I saw another Swedish runner and we chatted a bit. His goal was sub 3 so I was a bit hesitant to follow but the pace was not sub 3 when taking the hills at the end into consideration so I was two steps behind him for the first 20km. Pace was very consistent.
Halfway I sensed a tempo increase and decided to find another back to focus on. Rain had started to come down pretty hard and with the gusting wind, I needed the cover. Around the 25km I could feel the first signs of disomfort from the quads and knowing I still had well over an hour I dropped the pace another few seconds.
Entering Newton and the hills, I knew this would be a tough one but the hills at least allowed me to use other muscles more and to give my quads somewhat a break. Pace obviously dropped a bit but I kept the same pace as most people around me. I reached the top with mixed emotions. The last few k's are mostly downhill and my quads were done know. I felt great energy wise but the quads didn't fire any more. Only one road run longer than 15k did of course give me ome grief at the end. Last 2k was not pretty. Goal was however to enjoy this race and I did for at least 37k. 3:13 won't impress anyone but I never aimed for a specifc time but thought in all honesty I would be able to finish around 3:05 to 3:08.

The Boston Marathon box is checked.
