Note

Sadly, a full travel day. Air North changed a flight we'd booked from 3pm to 5pm, which meant we couldn't make a connection in Vancouver. And I have to be back by 9am tomorrow morning to give placement exams. So we left Whitehorse first thing in the morning and have spent all day in the Vancouver airport. Really, really would have rather been sprinting in Carcross!

Orienteering race 42:27 [3]

NAOC Middle @ Lewes Lake

Woo, fun orienteering! Easily the most technical (aside maybe from the end of yesterday's long) that I've done in awhile. Felt like a middle for sure. And the arena was amazingly gorgeous. Feel so luck to be up here!

And I kinda won, but didn't really win. I won W21E, but Emma W. running W20E beat me, which is awesome.

And my race went ok. Felt like I wasn't physically pushing hard, but I was mentally. The fact that I still made some 30s-45s mistakes meant I couldn't go much faster than I was. I even almost really blew it by going to (and punching!) 17 (the GO control) before 16. Very thankful to have saved it!

NAOC long @ Croucher Creek

Guess I'm going to Norway next summer! Won in a fairly tight race with Emily (~2 min). Made my first big mistake in awhile (vagueness at #10), but otherwise I think did really well with the less technical portion before the spectator control.

Then we entered the zone of karst terrain. I tried to channel memories of SMOC terrain and I'm sure my 2 years there helped a lot. But I still had to go very slowly and even with that messed up a very short leg 14->15 and was quite hesitant throughout. Still, I found that portion much more fun b/c challenging.

Note

Made it to Whitehorse!! Sylvia traveled relatively well, but it's kinda a workout just keeping such an active squirmer contained for the flights!!! our AirBnB in down town Whitehorse is super cute. A walk around town yesterday gave us a bit of a feel for the place and holy moly does the Yukon River really book it - it's carrying a lot of water at quite a high speed, impressive!
