Oh my gosh! Right before heading out the door, Tom reported it was 16 degrees F. Ok, more layers then. Perhaps my coldest temperature of the winter?

Anyways, did 6 x sign-to-sign hill repeats of the FUTS up to Mars Hill. Pretty hard, legs don't feel strong. I think I remember doing these about 15s faster in the fall... will have to figure out how in the world to fit training in when back in Portland. Staring at my schedule for the next few weeks, it's going to be tough.

Bike to Buffalo Park and then morning run around it. 5 min with Tom, 5 min on my own. So beautiful with the mountains and the morning Sun!

Cappuccino at Kickstand on the way back. Not bad, not bad.

Run Flagstaff track workout. Was supposed to be in the indoor track, but something about soccer training, so outdoors instead. Chilly and windy, I kept my warm up bottoms on the whole time, not wanting to pull anything!

Workout:
4 x 5 min at threshold
I probably started too hard - altitude + not optimal training past few months...

Love this run! So gorgeous and mostly on trail and super-convenient from Tom's apartment.

Running over to the Fay canyon trail from the Sandy's canyon trailhead along Lake Mary Road, then we tried to follow the Fay canyon trail down into the canyon, but failed. Too many other trails and forest roads! Came across a buggy graveyard that is probably a tourist trap in the summer or something, then headed off in the direction that seemed downhill and did indeed find a canyon and the trail we were meant to be on!

Ran to the junction with Walnut canyon with a gorgeous exposed canyon wall.

Hiking 1:35:28 [0] 4.8 mi (19:53 / mi) +143m 18:12 / mi

Then we switched into hiking mode and went into narrow Walnut canyon. Just beautiful. The sedimentary dune rock is so neat since the layers are every which way. A further few miles down the canyon are famous cliff dwellings associated with the Walnut Canyon national monument, but this little trail peters out after about a mile and the guideline is not to go further than that.

Returned via Sandy's canyon, some cool views of basalt top-layer crumble on the way out.
