Running 58:42 [2] 6.13 mi (9:34 / mi) +141m 8:56 / mi

Morning joggeroo around the Obsevatory Mesa loop with Tom - he's more and more fit, can't just count runs with him to be an easy jog anymore!

My left knee bruise is still there and right ankle is painful upon twisting inwards - ligaments/tendons on the outside hurt when that happens. More strength?

Today it's to Las Vegas after colloquium about updates to interferometric telescopes here at Lowell, en route to the Deathride!

Signed up for the Petrified Forest Mini-Rogaines last night. Psyched!

Up and at it! Final Snowbowl climb before Deathride. Felt good. Wore my new snazzy armwarmers for the first time and they kept me snug. Men's sizing means they are long enough (yay!), but my biceps aren't quite making the grade... ah well, they didn't try too hard to fall down.

Tons of other folks out cycling, including two serious-looking women who'd made it to the top before me and I saw heading back down. Others apparently try to get this ride in before work too!

Note

Made it home at 12:30am, Pacific time, phew. 15.5h after finishing the race. Tom gets major points for driving the last 2.5h in the dark through the reservation, I was sleepy-pants for sure!

Cycling 36:58 intensity: (20:58 @1) + (4:00 @2) + (8:00 @3) + (4:00 @4) 6.6 mi (5:36 / mi) +379m 4:45 / mi

4 Mars Hill repeats. Making the hill-biking muscles work a little!

Busy day at Lowell, the visitors office was full to the max! Listened to a talk about a business/science venture to make artificial meteor showers. Pretty cool.

Running 19:32 [1] 1.74 mi (11:14 / mi) +8m 11:04 / mi

Oops, forgot my SI stick at assembly the first time I went to the start. Luckily had enough time to jog back and forth again to get it!

Orienteering 1:02:24 [3] 5.05 mi (12:21 / mi) +168m 11:12 / mi

Laramie Daze - A meet Day 3 - Diamond Bay

That was fantastic! More challenging navigation due to lower visibility, so I definitely had my bobbles here and there. (Including right at the end when I lost just a few seconds and Craig overtook!) Happy to not have had major mistakes though - I bet had this been the first out of the six events of the week I definitely would have!!

Laramie Daze - A meet Day 2 - Remarkable Flats

More fun times orienteering! It's like an orienteering playground out there. A very visible one, but very fun nonetheless.

Ran more aggressively today. My reach goal was to win every split, which didn't happen, but much faster than yesterday's pace. Number 6 I seem to have been most off - I do remember wobbling a bit and being unsure close in to the circle, guess that must have cost those seconds!

Tom also did well on his green course today, which is great to see!

Running 13:08 [1] 1.2 mi (10:57 / mi) +25m 10:17 / mi

Rocky Mtn O'Fest - A meet Day 1 - Twin Boulders

Had a blast, yay orienteering! My goal was to run on the safer side given the past few days of a few bobbles in this terrain and given it was an A-meet. Pretty much worked according to plan, never felt like I was killing it, but did feel confident finding things.

Here's a few where I lost time when I compared splits to Alex + Hannah:
1: Oops, I went over the hill instead of around to the left.
3: Hannah was speedier - just confidence about running to a close, clear, not far-away feature?
8: Totally surprised that Hannah got me by a bunch on this very hilly one! I wasn't pushing it because I wanted a good brain for sorting out the detailed rocks at top and was perhaps a bit hesitant once I got up there, but still, 30-40s or whatever it is was a whole lot to lose!
10- Should have gone more direct, I didn't leave 9 well.
13 - Ended up more left of the line than I wanted, Alex smoked it! Maybe could have tumbled down the hill faster too, but still being careful with this not-stable-feeling right ankle.

Laramie Daze 3: Devil's Claw

Fun times. A few misses, but better than yesterday. Missed 4 coming too far right, making a wrong choice from a reentrant. One reentrant too early to 5 and then probably not the best route to 13. Trailing Eric and Nick through 3, when I lost them. Aiden M. caught me at my mistake at 4, we ran around each other until 9, which was fun.

Knee hurt on warm up, but not while racing at least. Ankles still feel wobbly.

Let the A-meet begin!
