XC skiing 1:10:37 [2] 9.92 mi (7:07 / mi) +216m 6:40 / mi

Oh the jet lags. S up at 4:15am and so we all were...

So breakfast and wax skis and pack car and time to go ski! Was indeed snowy up on Mt. Hood, had to chain up after Rhododendron. Tom had to work and day-care is still out, so this was a me + Sylvia adventure.

Our outing:
Play-ski with S
Snack time 1
Skate with S in backpack. She mostly slept and think stayed mostly warm enough in long undies, fleece suit and her rain suit.
Snack time 2
Play-ski with S
Snack time 3
Back to car

Takes longer than on my own, but super fun to have Sylvia scoot a little more on her skis this time! She has figured out that shuffling her feet back and forth is a thing to do.

Woo!

Note

Made it home! Was great to be visiting family, is also wonderful to be back. S stayed away the whole 6h flight from Newark to Portland. Not really looking forward to paying for an extra seat after 2years, but it will be nice... *Many* young ones on the flight, including two rows ahead one of my good friends from prenatal/postnatal yoga, Krista + baby Ellery. Great to run into them!

Running 58:28 intensity: (33:28 @1) + (25:00 @4) 6.81 mi (8:35 / mi)

1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 intervals with half rest, running around the lake. Had to give a pause to the intervals as I ran on the super-slippy trail from South Cove to West Cove because it took all my effort to figure out how to stay upright on the icy crust. Ice bugs would have helped.

Felt pretty good. This has been a really good training 10 days while on vacation!

Running 1:12:15 [2] 10.0 mi (7:14 / mi)

Boo. Started raining and didn't stop. So roads were a sheet of ice and I decided the better way to get a long run was on the treadmill. To the gym! Kinda a crappy treadmill. Maxed out at 6:53/mi pace and tried to kick me off after an hour. Ah well. Got through it!

S seemed to enjoy skiing indoors on the carpet today more than outside in the back yard... but suppose that makes sense since the backyard was icy crust skiing.

Soooooo much better. Craftsbury advertised having 46km of trails open. And I'd been meaning to try to visit Adrian. So Tom, Sylvia and I borrowed my parent's car and trekked up there (2h10m drive). Unfortunately having no signal on my phone meant intentions to meet up with Adrian + Allison fell threw, major bummer. But the skiing was simply awesome. I mean, ok, here and there a little dirt churned into the trails, but no rocks, good cover, and some lovely views from some of the open meadows. Had a blast and was pretty exhausted by my hour and twenty minutes.

We also took S on skis a second time. Just in the open field by the lodge. She again seemed to really enjoy it, did a smidge more scooting on her own! Then she made `friends' with another 15 month old while Tom watched her in the lodge.

Swimming 5:00 [1]

Went for a morning family swim at the rec center here. Sylvia was very ambivalent to the whole thing, she's been more active/enthused by the water other swim outings, ah well! But I even got a few laps in while she sat by the side of the pool and grandma watched!

XC skiing 16:56 [1] 2.45 mi (6:55 / mi) +2m 6:54 / mi

Woo woo!!!! 1st day skiing for this winter *and* put skis on Sylvia and had her slide on them. Not sure you could really call what she was doing skiing yet. Basically I or Tom would hold her under her armpits and run her forward on her skis. Maybe more like waterskiing than anything else. But she made a few small ski-steps on her own, at least!

The skiing was totally crappy. Back and forth maybe 10 times on a 200m stretch of icy snow. Made less boring because skiing with Stephi.

Running 48:23 [1] 5.53 mi (8:45 / mi)

Christmas run during Sylvia's midday nap! She doesn't *really* get what's going on, but is happy to open presents. Probably the biggest hits were a pop-up indoor tent that she loved playing in and a little soccer ball. So far she's only broken two things in the very non-babyproofed grandparent's house... likes playing their piano though!!
