9 AM

Run 1:26:03 [3] 12.79 km (6:44 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

A nice little run over to Tawharanui and back with Michael. It was very hot and I felt pretty weak and yuck for large parts but it is always very pretty. I didn't make us run up the hill from the house though because that would just be cruel and we couldn't be bothered running all the way out to the point so just made do with the trig.

The best part was the swim afterwards I think!
5 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

At Extreme Edge with Michael. Feeling like I was climbing a bit like a retard today!

Saturday Feb 26, 2011 #

Note

Lazing around, going swimming (and jumping off the pontoon! I'm so proud!) and wandering up the hill. Nice.

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. On my way home I had a random thought...it is really quite weird that I biked to the gym only to hop onto a bike that wasn't going anywhere. It just seems like a very strange thing to do.

Also, my log is looking like a lovely rainbow at the moment!
6 AM

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Legs feeling a bit dead funnily enough but nothing terrible. Thought I'd take it slightly easier anyway. It was a good class but really, it's like Lincoln is trying to recreate a dance party in the class with that music. Painful.

6 PM

Run (Girls on Top Run) 1:49:59 [3] 13.53 km (8:08 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

With the Girls On Top people at the Waitakeres. I started off in the slow bunnies group because typically I thought I'd be slow but that was clearly going to slow for me and the fast bunnies group had stopped at some intersection ahead of us to drop off one of their group members and they asked if anyone wanted to join and Cath did so I figured it couldn't be that bad and it wasn't. Pretty cruisey...well as cruisey as running up some of those hills can be. I think we did (from Falls Rd carpark) Auckland City, Anderson, Waitakere Tramline, Fenceline, Montana, Upper Kauri and the long way round Auckland City to finish (with a bit of boulder climbing and tiki touring near the end for fun). What is with all the gravel and sealing of the tracks? Are they wanting bloody prams up there or something? It's ridiculous.

Route is here.

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym in the rain. I like my new jacket...it's awesome.
6 AM

Run (treadmill) 20:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Feeling stressed and anxious so felt like burning off some steam but didn't feel like loud music and being trapped in the spin room. Started at 12 and increased the speed every 5 minutes. Feeling quite good really.

Gym (arm weights and core) 40:00 [3]

Orienteering race (SS - Alexandra Park) 53:01 [3] 9.5 km (5:35 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

3 maps again! Although this time not nearly so confusing to work out how they all fitted together. Mostly okay but there was a bit of dithering and suboptimal route choice! My legs felt quite good running today but needed the bathroom most of the way round which slowed me down a bit plus my brain was feeling a little bit preoccupied with other stuff. Considering the maps and the area it was a great little course though. Loved the building stuff on the Dilworth and Diocesan Schools map. Also, the steady rain was really refreshing and for once I didn't overheat! My gps said I only ran 9.27km so clearly I took better route choices than the people working out the distance of the course!

6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

At Extreme Edge with Chris. I had a total meltdown on one climb where I couldn't get myself over the final bit of the overhang (you come off an extreme angle to a very gentle overhang and the second handhold seemed to require way more arm strength than I could muster...even with many different attempts). SO frustrating because I'd managed the overhang bits fine (although bloody physical) and I'd also failed right at the top of another climb earlier. ARGH!!! But then I redeemed myself by racing up a few other ones.

We also signed up for the lead climbing course next month which is exciting although I have to miss the last summer series to do it :(

Oh yeah, and my new shoes should be arriving soon...

Orienteering race (Woodhill) 2:04:20 [3] 7.5 km (16:35 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Yet another example of why I ought to give up orienteering and take up something like knitting.
2 PM

MTB 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

A nice little jaunt around the bike park (pretty much just cruised round Auckland Eye...it looks pretty on my gps). Taking it easy and actually seeing some definite improvements on my handling in the sand i.e. actually trying to ride in it rather than just getting off and pushing. I could honestly say I rode at least 10 times better than I orienteered today...which says something very distressing about my orienteering. So glad I decided to ride despite feeling shattered. It was great (oh, and I passed people...even people with clipless pedals...although admitedly this was always uphill after they got stumped by a, well, tree stump and I was awesome and rode up and over them).

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Back on the bike...it was like deja vu. I had thought about going for a run instead (well, the original plan was to do both yoga and a run but I got home way too late last night) but I really haven't had enough sleep and figured going to yoga was probably the better option considering the day ahead.
11 AM

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

SO hard today. So much arm stuff and my shoulders and arms are really feeling the effects of so many overhang climbs! But it is good for me. Probably my last class with Gerald too which is a shame. I wish I'd gone to more.

Friday Feb 18, 2011 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Was starving on the way home because I'd had a meeting with Rick after class and then got accidently given a soy latte rather than a soy chai latte and I drunk half of it because it seemed rude not to but I started to feel ill (my head feels like it's shaking inside my skull) after about 1 sip! Coffee and me don't mix. Stopped at Kokako to pick up muffin. I should have eaten it then instead of waiting until I got home 'cause I had the shakes.
6 AM

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Another epic morning class. I could feel the burn in my thighs and since it was pretty much all hill work this morning it was rough work. But good for me! Again though, sitting in between Rick and Rob is probably not the best plan if you don't want to die.
6 PM

Road Bike 35:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To my brother's house in Orakei. Got every red light in existence which was a pain but traffic wasn't too bad and I didn't get lost on the maze I'd mapped out for myself. The cycleway on Tamaki Drive really sucks though. No wonder I normally just ride on the road 'cause it feels like you need a full suspension mountain bike to deal with all the cracks and bumps! But traffic was a bit on the heavy side so I was a good girl...
11 PM

Road Bike 35:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again but through town and past the Viaduct so I could avoid K-Rd which was mad enough this morning at 5:30am so figured it wouldn't be all that pleasant tonight. There are way more hills on the way home again and when you're full of cookies it's not so cool. I guess that's the problem with living at the top of the hill. Helen was all worried about me biking in the dark when I got home and offered to beat up anyone who might have tried to run me over. I should have told her about the arsehole scooter driver this morning.

6 PM

Orienteering race (SS - Panmure Basin) 58:31 [3] 9.5 km (6:10 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

This was basically a runner's course and I am SO not a runner. Plus it was just round the basin...several times. I would have liked to have gone and checked out a few of the neighbouring parks like other times but it was still quite a good course considering the map! I probably went the long way to #4 but at least I got to check out a different side of the basin! Then stuffed up #6 and #10 completely. I have no excuse except that I wasn't reading my map! Oh, and I got to use my spiffy new watch which was exciting! But I think I need to put something under it so it doesn't bug me and I think it started aggravating my left shoulder earlier than running normally does. But nothing that I'm sure I can't get used to (my shoulder should just learn to harden up and get over itself).

The course and my ghastly route choices are here.

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. How exciting! It started pouring with rain just after I left the house but I was clever and had my new jacket with me and I was so excited to get to use it at last! It's cool...if only for the fact that it is bright yellow and kept me dry.
6 AM

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Well, I was already wet before class even started and it was so super muggy in the class that I was dripping in no time! Also, sitting between Rick and Rob is asking for trouble...thought I might die at points!
6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

At Extreme Edge with Chris. Night of the overhang with a couple more epic climbs thrown in for good measure. Somehow Chris decided that since we did 3 overhangs last week that we'd have to do 4 this week...and then somehow we ended up doing 5! We've been selling ourselves short though since they weren't very hard...just incredibly exhausting and painful. My fingers are sore as I type this! Next week apparently it's all on (I can see a lot of falling in my future).

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. It's all a bit of a blur really but luckily I obviously made it home safe!
6 AM

Run warm up/down 22:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

To the Domain and back. Interestingly despite how ridiculously slow and exhausted I felt on the way back I took the same time as on the way there.

Run intervals 25:30 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

6 x 3 minute "sprints" with 90 second recovery jogs...around the fields at the Domain. Feeling okay I guess but it was a lot darker to start this morning because of all the clouds and it was super humid.

Gym (core and stretches) 10:00 [2]

Monday Feb 14, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

Was supposed to go climbing after work but work didn't end...it was like the day from hell. Oh well, I did manage to make it into bed relatively early though.

Sunday Feb 13, 2011 #

11 AM

MTB 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Even more tired this morning and had a bit of a drumming headache...that'll be the alcohol from last night (I am like the lightest of lightweights obviously). But I did manage to drag myself out to the bike park after sorting out work stuff. Didn't feel all that good for the first bit but was set on finding that track Rob had taken me on last year which was basically the track that is the furtherest away in the entire park (anaconda I think). Once I got up Uplands I was away though and felt pretty good (actually, getting up Uplands I must have been feeling strong 'cause I was in quite a high gear and not having any trouble). Did have mega issues with my seat though and when I got back I tried to get one of the guys at the park to help me but they couldn't work out why it kept going down on me...and then Cyco was shut so I'll have to sort it next week.

Saturday Feb 12, 2011 #

4 PM

Run 1:07:25 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Round some of my favourite tracks at Rob and Marquita's place. After a couple of hours of raking and a few too many late nights I was pretty tired but once I got going it was awesome. One of my favourite places to run (might be all those hills and that you get to take a map out with you too)! The swim afterwards was awesome as well.

Friday Feb 11, 2011 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym.
6 AM

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Really good class...heaps of seated climbing "up" big hills which is my favourite. But perhaps Lincoln is going a bit deaf 'cause the music was too loud (especially for that kind of time in the morning). Was feeling a bit shaky by the end...am in need of some more sleep after an extremely late night earlier in the week.
5 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

At Extreme Edge with my flatmates. I paired up with Huyn Jin which was quite fun and let the boys be macho together. I thought I would suck because I was tired and my back and arms were still sore but actually climbed really well with a couple of good overhangs and a really long (up the super tall wall), tricky 19 done and dusted. Also had a look at some 5.10s and did some bouldering in some at the end. Am going to need new shoes soon as holes are forming at the toe and had thought about going with the 5.10s and this pretty much made up my mind...awesome shoes.

Thursday Feb 10, 2011 #

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

To and from the event from my house. Bit of a battle back up the hill afterwards 'cause I'd got all stiff from standing around.
6 AM

Orienteering race (SS Western Springs) 1:07:39 [3] 8.4 km (8:03 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

ARGH!!! Bad start...with #1 being hidden somewhere a bit strange (and then when I ran past it later on the course it had been moved to where it should have been). I saw Allan come out of #4 on my way in (he'd started just before me). I was feeling a bit slow and flat (a regular occurance of late not helped by a sore back which I must have hurt at climbing the night before). Got to run past my house twice (and very close to it another time) which was amusing and I did wish I knew what it looked like from the bush side 'cause I could have cut through my property from #11! #17 was just plain ridiculous...definitely not even close to where it was marked on the map so that frustrated me (well, even more than some of the other controls which felt wrong too). Then it was just a struggle to the end! Oh, but I bet Allan (although he was claiming I had homeground advantage...but he followed me into #11 anyway which was possibly the only one where it might have helped a little).

Wednesday Feb 9, 2011 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. It poured with rain on the way home which was kind of refreshing.
6 AM

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Super super tough class.
6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

At Extreme Edge with Chris. Toughest session ever. We started off slow but the second half was exhausting. Tried some pretty tough stuff which led to bruising and a few cuts then finished up with 3 large overhangs in a row! The first one was pretty intense on the super overhanging wall. I have definitely improved in arm strength since I managed to get up them all and only fell once (and couldn't swing back in properly so had to start from the bottom again!).

Tuesday Feb 8, 2011 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym and getting crappy lights but hooning as fast as I could against the cars on the way home because I was running late which was quite fun.
6 AM

Run warm up/down 18:20 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

To the domain and back afterwards in a rather round about way. It is always nice when your slow jog is faster than someone else's run...an extremely rare occurrence but nice!

Run intervals 25:30 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

6 x 3 minute "sprints" with 90 second recovery jogs. Just on the flat fields by the grandstand (although some bits I ran on were not entirely flat). Did my last set round the 400m track which was kind of entertaining. And I worked out that 3 minutes is about how long it takes me to count to 120 with each count being 4 steps. Yes, counting is how I seem to occupy my mind when I try and run fast! Beautiful morning with the mist hanging low over the fields.

Monday Feb 7, 2011 #

Note

Bad day. But our flat did all have a lovely walk at the lake later in the evening.

Sunday Feb 6, 2011 #

1 PM

Run 35:25 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Along Muriwai Beach while Kiri was surfing. I had wanted to do intervals on the beach but we were there at high tide so it was incredibly tough running as it was with pretty much every step sinking into the sand or running in the water. Was good fun though but not as good as the swim afterwards.

Saturday Feb 5, 2011 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Even survived the roadworks where K'Rd turned into a 1 lane scramble (although a car seemed to want to drive backwards...into where I was but I dived out of the way).
10 AM

Run 46:27 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Twice round the outside tracks at the Domain from the gym...both directions. Felt like I was dying in the humidity. It was awful. But seriously, my running also sucks and I was quite glad just to still be alive by the end.
11 AM

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Super stretchy and twisty and good (although painful).

Friday Feb 4, 2011 #

7 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

At Extreme Edge with Ee. It was so humid I felt like I was swimming! Didn't do too much tough stuff but did do the funny overhang area I've never done before...twice and a few (as in, like, 3 sets because I am so weak!) dead hangs. Feet and fingers are really sore.

Thursday Feb 3, 2011 #

6 PM

Orienteering race (SS - Ambury Farm Park) 1:03:19 [3] 8.2 km (7:43 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Course was okay and the street bits weren't as hellish as usual but it is just so flat and I just can't run. Plus it's that time so my body is trying its best to kill me. Doesn't help that I just keep feeling more and more SFU. Perhaps it is time to give up and take up knitting instead?
:(

Wednesday Feb 2, 2011 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Some drivers don't look at all. Lucky I was paying attention.
6 AM

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

It's been a while! But legs were feeling quite good on the bike. Maria takes a tough class.

Tuesday Feb 1, 2011 #

6 PM

Run 1:04:54 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Finally feeling relatively normal again...yay! Did my usual longish run backwards with an extra hill thrown in for good measure. It's a lot steeper this way (2 very steep hills in a row). Was slow on the flat and downhill but felt really good on the uphills. Definitely a good run...until the last 20 minutes when the side of my neck decided to really hurt and I had to stop a couple of times and stretch it out. I thought I might have to walk but everything else felt good so I pushed on. Seemed to be mostly gone by the time I got up the last hill to my house.

Then I was a good girl and did lots of stretches in the back garden.
