A shorter loop round the Domain in the morning. Muggy and my legs were feeling rather dead. Jono refused to get out of bed so I was on my own which feels a little weird these days. I've got used to having someone next to me or just in front.

Loops round the roads in the Domain after work with Jono. Stretching out stiff and tired legs...they did feel a whole lot better afterwards so it was worth it.

Run race (Autumn Challenge) 8:00 [3]

A mad dash to the rafts. Running in a wetsuit sucks.

Rafting race (Autumn Challenge) 55:00 [4]

Down the Waikato River. It was pretty low so we had to paddle quite hard to keep it moving along. Passed 3 rafts near the beginning which was great fun! My arms were killing me by the end though.

MTB race 1:25:00 [4]

The first mountain bike leg. Mostly on dirt roads except for a slow, steady uphill grind in the middle. My wheels somehow managed to be pretty flat by the end but according to the support crew nothing was punctured so that was a bit weird. Maybe it was my spin out at the checkpoint in the gravel!

A pretty easy jog along the edge of the Waikato. Sandra was struggling by now so Charlotte and I just plodded along at her pace (and enjoyed the scenery!).

MTB race (Autumn Challenge) 3:00:00 [4]

Mountain biking on the Craters of the Moon trails. This was awful. We really struggled, especially Sandra. By the time we got to Ridge Road we were buggered...and then Sandra's bike broke. After fixing her up enough so she could wheel it back to the final transition and support crew we set off again. I had a big tumble off my bike which shook me up quite a bit and then my chain came off and got stuck. Another team stopped to help me as Charlotte was ahead at that stage. We managed to pry it loose so I could keep going. The leg finished with a killer uphill on the road to Craters of the Moon and a rest (at last) from the cursed bikes.

Round the Craters of the Moon boardwalk collecting clues. Good fun.

MTB race (Autumn Challenge) 45:00 [3]

Didn't have much steam left for the final mountain bike but luckily there wasn't too much trail stuff. Charlotte was great. I was so glad to see my support crew at the end...until I realised we still had a small loop to go until we could get off the bikes for good! Cruel!!

Because we took so long on the mountain bike we didn't get to do the orienteering section (damn...the one part of the race I knew I could do!!). One final run back to Spa Park along the edge of the Waikato and finally as a whole team again (Sandra joined us again for the last stretch).

Same as Monday. Didn't have such a chill to the air this morning though. I think it might have been Hanny who passed us on the bush track but I was kind of engrossed in our usual weird conversations we seem to have while running. Anyway, my ankle felt good (although I had strapped it as recommended) and the physio was pretty happy with it at my appointment this morning.

Note

One of our team members for the race this weekend has ended up in a cast. Although it looks like we can still compete as a team of 2 if anyone knows someone who'd like to take her place then let me know (they have to be female though since it's a women's adventure race).

A few shockers inside the control circle but the navigation to those points was pretty good!

Better than the last time I was on this map but I had a brilliant 180 (don't know WHAT I was thinking!) and the odd small mistake elsewhere. Felt a bit slow and tired but it was lovely out there.

There was some huge group that invaded the rink after our class so we didn't stay long afterwards. Lots of backwards stuff and turns. My confidence is increasing.

One killer of a new programme. I could barely lift my arms in the shower afterwards! But it should be good in the end and hopefully ease the lower back pain again although I'm pretty sure a lot of that was caused by mental stuff as in the past.

I sent Jono out on Orange Long so kinda felt obliged to do Red 2...hmmm, was a bit long considering the last few days but hey, I was under 2 hours with quite a lot of walking and general tiredness so was pretty happy. Some hairy navigation in parts but it was mostly okay. Brain fade as usual!

Out at Woodhill with Jono and his mates. I took Stacey's bike which seemed to hold up okay. It was my first time mountain biking and considering how crap I am at riding anyway I was pretty happy with it and I feel a whole lot more confident about that component of the upcoming race. Was completely knackered afterwards though.

Loops in the Domain. Was supposed to go with Jono earlier in the morning but he piked. The ankle was well strapped and felt good. Still slow but felt a bit less unco.

To gym and back with a bit of jogging on the way there as I was running late. Need to pick up my camelbak next time I'm at my parents as jogging with my backpack was so uncomfortable!

I had sore feet at the end of the day...too much walking around (walked around in afternoon getting places then down into town in the evening and stood all afternoon in the kitchen baking) so my ankle was a bit swollen.

Testing out Stacey's bike that I've borrowed. After I got the seat height sorted it was okay but I wish I'd remembered that it was daylight savings because I could have got an extra hour of sleep or more time to ride! So silly but I guess I'm all over the place lately.

With Ee round the streets along the cliffs in Browns Bay. I had a sore back and he hadn't run for ages so it was fairly cruisy but good all things considering. Strapped the ankle good and tight so it felt fine for once.

With Debs and Dalen. Tough climbing today but I was pretty happy with myself. My smearing is improving and I'm slowly getting a bit less afraid of falling (my first proper fall off a hold tonight although obviously not a proper fall since I'm being held by a harness and rope of course!).

Jono was navigating (and I didn't have a map...only brief glances at it every now and then) and this time we only ran through 2 of the circles so he's improving (although we did an easier course tonight). My ankle hates me.

Well, my boots were one way of getting compression on the ankle (and naturally a bit of ice along the way...my feet were freezing by the end)! Doing okay I guess but feeling cold and a bit unstable on my right leg (I'll blame the ankle). Would have stayed on longer if I hadn't felt so cold and sore.

The girl power class (thank god the usual Tuesday instructor was back again...have been looking forward to her class for ages). For some reason I was hard out in the 1st half but the last couple of tracks I just couldn't get my heart rate back up again so I'm giving it a 4 although the majority was a 5.
