Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Wish I felt normal today. At least I had energy although I don't know where that came from.

Climbing (Indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

With Brent and Ee at Extreme Edge. First time in my new shoes which was pretty awesome. They were almost comfortable to wear the whole time (almost but not quite). It was hot and muggy and my climbing was decidedly average...was too anxious and uptight. Arm is super sore now for some reason. It seems to be going backwards again.

Run 1:38:39 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

From the gate down to Tawharanui and along the South Coast trail to the furthest point on the peninsula and back again over the farmland. Tough work...I should do some more hill work 'cause this was a killer. Luckily it was cloudier than yesterday. Chest was feeling almost normal until afterwards though which was an improvement.

Walk 3:15:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco IX WR

From the bay with Brent over to Tawharanui and along the West Coast and South Coast trails. It was blisteringly hot.

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:30:00 [3]

Extreme Edge with Brent. My arm was not really up to it but hey, was all good. It was so ridiculously hot up the top of the big walls which made things rather tough going. I decided the holes in the toes of my shoes are getting a bit ridiculous so we went and got me new shoes afterwards. Can't wait to wear them on Sunday!

Run 49:06 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round OTH on the outer dirt track and up to the summit. Down to Manukau Rd and then up that other road that leads back to the dirt track. When did some of those paddocks get such long grass? I'm sure it hasn't been that long since I last ran at the park. Thighs tired but was actually a pretty good run considering how lazy I felt and how much I don't enjoy running in the afternoon.

Run (treadmill) 22:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

On the random setting. Didn't really have enough time to get in a decent run outside before class so settled for the treadmill. Wasn't too bad and my chest managed to not kill me.

Hmmm, like the housewife class or something?! Davo, the instructor was highly entertaining and I don't think I've done a class anything like this ever before. Was fun but probably not good for my chest since it felt kind of painful afterwards. SO good to get a break from Keisha for a few hours.

Monday Nov 23, 2009 #

Note

Woke up feeling a bit like death...all achey and weird. Thought that I might go for a gentle run round the park but even just taking Keisha for a walk was a bit uncomfortable to my stomach. Hoping the pain will go away by itself so I won't have to go to the doctor.

MTB (mtb) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Out at Woodhill and my first time using clips (clipless, whatever...). Went a lot better than I expected apart from the last fall where one end of my handlebars decided to punch me in the stomach when I forgot to unclip. It does not look pretty and hurts a fair bit but nothing serious. No turning back now! It might have helped to have had a little more than 2 and a half hours sleep but I never learn.

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

We had a new tutor today and she took a tough class! Felt pretty achey afterwards but mostly in a good way. Was a bit frustrating I had to modify a lot of the positions because of my bung shoulder though.

Run warm up/down 19:54 [3] 4.0 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Running to the gym from home. How did this ever seem like a good idea? Felt slow and my thighs felt real tired (funnily enough) but my legs did feel better by the time I got to the gym. Nice morning. I like how quiet everything feels this early. But I suspect I shouldn't have stayed up so late last night. Going to need a nap...

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Definitely felt like I picked the wrong morning to run to class...was truly epic. Even the warmup track was hardout! It seems any morning Lincoln is in a good mood he attempts to kill us!

Run 19:42 [3] 4.0 km (4:56 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

Home again. Don't know how I made such good time as even the little rise up Great South Road felt like a killer! At least it's a nice downhill stretch to home from there. I was just concentrating on keeping my legs moving one after the other!

Right, back to bed now :)

Orienteering race (SS Western Springs) 1:05:41 [3] 6.4 km (10:16 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

29 controls! Crazy. Allan started about a minute ahead of me but I caught him at the first control (he must have got lost or something). Legs were feeling very tired so I had no speed and keeping up with him was about all I could manage. Stupidly followed his route to #5 but discovered I couldn't get across the creek without incident so I ended up doing what I'd originally planned. Stuffed up the control anyway 'cause it seemed so much lower that it appeared on the map. Owen caught us up and him and Allan got ahead of me so I slowed down a bit since it seemed I had pretty much lost by then and I was tired! When I got to #19 Owen was just exiting. Don't know where he must have went. Allan got to #20 just after me which confused me as I thought they were both miles ahead. We basically hung onto each other for the rest of the course and I claimed victory over both of them! Oh yeah! Was a good course and I think I saw pretty much all of the map you possibly could!

Run 39:27 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

From the gym round the domain a couple of times. It was so muggy and my tummy was feeling awful (weird 'cause it was fine when I got up). Legs were feeling fairly average...thighs still tired especially on the second loop.

Gym (weights and core) 50:00 [3]

Yawn!

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Wasn't planning on having such a hard morning but couldn't sleep (and when I did finally fall asleep I got woken up again by my phone going off...the night is for sleeping okay?). Didn't feel like staying in bed any longer and had some excess anger to get rid off so spin seemed perfect. Legs felt pretty good.

MTB race (MTBO Champs - Long) 1:21:10 [3] 17.0 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Skulls

No real mistakes, just a not so good route choice to #4. Would have been fine if the track wasn't so overgrown but I had to push the bike through and down parts of it where it was impossible to see the track! Silly me trying to avoid windy single-track which was apparently lovely! I enjoyed this course though 'cause it took us on some lovely tracks (as well as some rough hills on knarly gravel roads). Slow and steady. Clearly a winning tactic!

MTB warm up/down 25:00 [2]
shoes: Skulls

Biking to the start in the morning and to and from the start/finish in the afternoon. It's quite good having an enforced warmup 'cause I'm lazy on the bike!

MTB race (MTBO Champs - Middle) 1:11:46 [3] 11.0 km (6:31 / km)
shoes: Skulls

Rotorua. Bloody uphill to start!! Found the first control okay then got trapped in the one-way system on route to #2 and it took forever to fix. Did a 180 once I hit the road (lucky I fixed that pretty quick 'cause it was straight down!). Mostly okay after that but was super slow and careful. That stupid uphill cliff thingy where you had to carry your bike was cruel...lucky I got some help getting my bike up that otherwise I was kinda stuck! I need to get some strength!

MTB race (MTBO Champs - Sprint) 39:42 [3] 4.5 km (8:49 / km)
shoes: Skulls

This was just embarrassing! I think there was only 3 controls without some stupid mistake that cost heaps of time! Went round in circles for #5 (although so many other people got caught in the same trap which was pretty funny). Can't believe I missed the road option for #6 and ended up on some epic downhill trail! ARGH!!!

Friday Nov 13, 2009 #

Run 35:19 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round the outer dirt track of OTH. Legs feeling like death and I wasn't feeling much better. It was good to get out though. Have I mentioned how much I hate the new fence crossings before?

Thursday Nov 12, 2009 #

Orienteering race (Great Ape Race) 25:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

A rogaine format round the zoo with Craig, Owen and Sandra! Cool fun. I was put in charge of writing down the answers...my spelling sucks. We probably would have made it back in 20 minutes except Owen missed a control and we had to go back for it. Clearly he felt we hadn't been out long enough!

Wednesday Nov 11, 2009 #

Rowing Machine warm up/down 8:53 [4] 2.0 km (4:27 / km)

I almost chickened out but I'm tough! Wasn't too bad but seriously didn't feel like pushing it to try for a good time. Just made sure to keep a steady pace and make sure my time wasn't going to be over 9 minutes!

Gym (weights and core) 1:20:00 [3]

There's a very unwell-looking girl at the gym pretty much every time I'm there at the moment and it's really distressing me. I hate it how the gym staff aren't able to do anything and I hate how it stirs up memories.

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Girl power class with Janelle (and seriously loud music). Lots of hovering and endless hills which were a bit tough on my (still) tired thighs! It was good fun though.

Gym (core and stretches) 15:00 [3]

Orienteering race (SS Hamlins Hill) 53:33 [3] 5.5 km (9:44 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

I had nothing left in my legs tonight which was rather unfortunate since there were so many hills and quite a few longish legs. Running was made even more difficult by the ground being all cut up by cattle so I was a bit worried about my ankles! I don't think I've ever been on this map before so it was pretty cool, especially when you came up over the hill and were looking right down on the motorway.

Note
(rest day)

Yay! Hanging out for claypot tonight. It would be nice if work wasn't so manic though...

MTB (MTBO) 2:15:00 [3]
shoes: Skulls

Training course out at Rob's place with Brent. I was completely buggered right from the start! Not my finest riding but not my worst either. Hopefully I survive next weekend! Brent's navigation wasn't too bad either.

Saturday Nov 7, 2009 #

Run race (P6 - Stage 1) 40:00 [4]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

Up the estuary (including swimming across a river!) then back down the track. Was supposed to be a rogaine format but was basically a there and back course. Glad we did the coastal strip first.

MTB race (P6 - Stage 2 mtb) 2:15:00 [4]

Pretty basic navigation and mostly on fairly easy tracks although there were some awful sandy tracks and some not so pleasant uphills that dragged on for ages (i.e. right at the very start)! Survived!!

Orienteering race (P6 - Stage 3) 1:50:00 [2]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

Brent's knee was playing up so we walked this section and just got all the 100 pointers. Had a little bit of a meltdown in the bush crashing bit near the end where I got tangled up in epic cutty grass! Was a bit disappointed we couldn't run but we still covered a fair amount of ground.

Run race (P6 - Stage 4) 10:00 [4]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

Running down the road with our tubes (which we'd cleverly attached to the backs of our packs 'cause we're awesome like that!).

Misc race (P6 - Stage 4 tubing) 25:00 [3]

Down the estuary in our inner tubes. Glad Rob suggested we wear polypros for this section as it was fairly cold. The water wasn't that deep so you could basically push yourself along with your feet. It was almost relaxing!

MTB race (P6 - stage 5 mtb) 10:00 [4]

Down the road and back to get an extra 20 points. There wasn't any point by this stage of trying to get any of the other controls.

Note

We came second in our grade (mixed open pairs)! If we could have run stage 3 we would totally have beaten the other team so clearly we rock. Definitely worth doing all of the mystery activities (although we didn't score so hot in the NZ quiz...I'm now curious to know which ones we got wrong!). Awesome event.

Friday Nov 6, 2009 #

Run 39:38 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

From the gym round the Domain twice. Nice weather. Tired thighs from last nights epic climbing mission. Felt better and a bit looser on the second lap.

Gym - Cardio warm up/down 15:00 [1]

On the cross trainer and the bike chatting with Alex while he finished his workout.

Thursday Nov 5, 2009 #

Climbing (Indoor - TR) 2:30:00 [3]

With Chris. If I thought last week was epic then, well, my fingers, arms and thighs are still shaking! We attempted our first 21. Got almost to the top (after some pretty hairy moments) but couldn't quite do it. One mother of an awful hold that I couldn't quite get my hand on and Chris couldn't get a grip on. Found an easier (well, only slightly) way to get past that awful bit on the orange...the sideways starfish (writing it here so I don't forget what I did). Yep, the hole in my shoe keeps getting bigger (and the left one is starting to get a hole too). Arm is in a lot of pain right now which is really not good.

Wednesday Nov 4, 2009 #

Rowing Machine warm up/down 8:49 [4] 2.0 km (4:25 / km)

Terrible! Thought my arms were going to break off!

Gym (weights and core) 1:20:00 [3]

Orienteering race (SS Auckland Domain) 53:03 [3] 6.7 km (7:55 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

First of the summer series. Made a few silly mistakes with route choices (somehow managed to completely disorient myself getting to #12 on the hospital map...was impressed I could get myself so confused on such a course!). Legs felt tired especially after the climb up to the museum from right down the bottom. It was good fun though and I bet Allan by 1 second so that's a point to me. Yeah! Let the competition begin!
Me = 1; Allan = 0.

Run warm up/down 5:00 [2]

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Couldn't face the thought of running after the weekend but felt like I ought to do something so thrashed myself at spin. Always a good way to kick-start your Monday!

Gym (core and stretches) 15:00 [2]

Sunday Nov 1, 2009 #

Orienteering race (TONIC - Long) 52:37 [4] 4.8 km (10:58 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

Back to running W21A. On a larger scale so everything came up much quicker than yesterday. Reading the contours really well which was good 'cause my compass skills sucked! Was mostly okay apart from trying to fight my way to #10 through the damn maze and then losing confidence a bit at #16. I should learn to trust my judgement of where I am more (and not listen to other people).

Run warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

Afterwards 'cause my legs were achey and I hadn't warmed down or stretched at all yesterday which made getting up this morning hard!
