Run 45:00 [2] 7.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

No sign of the stiff knees from last night which was good. A good gentle run (apart from the hill up to the Domain which feels like it goes on forever) but I began to feel like I was seizing up near the end as the cold made it all the way to my bones! I hate the cold! Gotta do something about keeping my hands warm.

Wednesday May 30, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:16 [4] 2.0 km (4:38 / km)

My breathing felt really weird and not so good. Got a bit of a blocked nose and I'd got up ridiculously early.

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 1:05:00 [3]

First proper day on the new programme. Some parts are an absolute killer but I was feeling pretty good by then.

Ice Skating 1:50:00 [3]

My knees absolutely ached after today's session. A combination of the cold and doing cross overs half the night. But at least I can now cross over on either foot plus I can almost do the dreaded turn! Well, I can do the turn but the glide backwards thing doesn't happen so much!

Tuesday May 29, 2007 #

Run 47:00 [2] 7.66 km (6:08 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

So good to be running again. Ran up to the Domain from the flat and then round to Broadway and back. Being dark I got a bit disoriented trying to suss out where I was since the area is pretty new to me so it was about 10 minutes longer than I wanted to be out for but it was all good fun cruising along.

Monday May 28, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:00 [5] 2.0 km (4:30 / km)

Felt crap as I usually do when I try and exercise in the evening but got my best time by 14 seconds!

Gym (Weights) 1:20:00 [3]

A physio session. Got a whole lot of new exercises and we decided to break it into 2 separate sessions. Going well and definately feeling an improvement in strength.

Orienteering (Waiuku Forest) 1:04:57 [3] *** 5.4 km (12:02 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco IX WR

My head was all over the place and my legs feel like they've forgotten how to run (at least the foot is almost all good now...must be careful with it)! But my route choices were generally pretty good after I got past the first couple of controls and the usual mind-freeze. So nice to be outside.

Run warm up/down 25:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco IX WR

I was on the lookout for Mum who'd decided to tackle the same course as me. Ran most of the second half of the course backwards mostly along the tracks but didn't see her so came back. Apparently she was lost near where I'd been but I never saw her. Oh well!

Saturday May 26, 2007 #

Note

Spent most of the day moving boxes and unpacking...good thing I've been working on my strength otherwise it would have been even harder. So tired.....

Friday May 25, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:20 [4] 2.0 km (4:40 / km)

My second-best time yet. Not sure how I'm going to beat that 9.14 but hey, anything's possible.

Gym (Weights) 1:10:00 [3]

I managed to increase the weights for a couple of the exercises and in general I felt really good. Hopefully this will help in the moving tomorrow (man I have so much crap)!

Thursday May 24, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 23:47 [4] 5.0 km (4:45 / km)

I took on the physio's challenge today of the 5km row. Most impressed at how I felt physically and the pace (as usual it gets better as I pass over the halfway mark!) and interesting to note the difference since when I first started and hated it.

Gym - Cardio 40:00 [3]

Just cruising this morning. It's amazing how time flies when you're talking to someone at the same time.

Wednesday May 23, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:30 [4] 2.0 km (4:45 / km)

It felt a little hard to get going this morning (the weather perhaps?). As usual I improved in the second half and made up my time that way.

Gym (Weights) 1:00:00 [3]

Nothing felt particularly hard this morning and I wasn't in the mood to push myself that hard either. Feeling relatively strong this week which is good.

Ice Skating 2:00:00 [3]

I think I've got the backwards slalom going now...weird but backwards is way less scary than I expected and yet you can pick up a pretty fast pace. The usual churning up of the ice once the public session started which makes practice precarious.

Tuesday May 22, 2007 #

Gym - Cardio 1:05:00 [4]

I was feeling rather full of energy this morning which is always good (didn't last once I got to jury service though!). But am I the only one who sweats in this gym?! Half the time people are even turning off the fans. Grrrr

Walk 25:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

I just had to make the most of the glorious weather (and go to the post office!) this afternoon after being stuck in court all morning. SOOO much waiting around.

Monday May 21, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:33 [4] 2.0 km (4:47 / km)

It went pretty good considering I felt real tired and it was ridiculously early in the morning.

Gym (Weights) 1:00:00 [4]

Finally, back to at least one part of my routine (might pass on the running for another week and see how my foot goes...it's almost there so I better not push it). I actually had strength in my arms again!!! It's kind of scary how easily my mood can affect my physical body.

Sunday May 20, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Slater Road - Score Event) 57:30 [4] ***
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco IX WR

Got 56 points which was a few up on last time. My foot was okay once I got started running which was good - so nice to not be stuck in the gym. Still dithering around a bit and I need to plan more controls because I have to constantly adapt when I get to them quicker than I expect.

Saturday May 19, 2007 #

Gym - Cardio 1:05:00 [4]

Felt good this morning during the workout but once I got home again I started feeling sick again.

Friday May 18, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling crap and tired today.

Thursday May 17, 2007 #

Gym - Cardio 1:05:00 [4]

Felt more tired than yesterday but attempted to push myself a bit and got my heart rate up higher than yesterday (always have trouble with that). Just the usual rowing, cross trainer and bike. Not nearly as good as being outside but we make do for now! Physio there this morning...had a good pep talk.

Wednesday May 16, 2007 #

Gym - Cardio 1:00:00 [3]

Good to get a sweat going and not put any pressure on my foot. Hopefully it's okay at ice skating tonight.

Ice Skating 1:45:00 [3]

Worked on cross overs a lot tonight which was tough on my knees which felt like they were completely frozen with cold. Also attempting backwards slalom...I suck. Lots of morons with no consideration on the ice once class finished so practising was near impossible and I gave up. No problem with my foot in skates...it can't bend 'cause of the big hunk of metal on the bottom of your boot! Skates need sharpening soon I think.

Tuesday May 15, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling basically awful in all ways so even had the day off work.

Monday May 14, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:28 [4] 2.0 km (4:44 / km)

Feeling shady this morning and couldn't find the engery to push any harder at the end.

Gym (Weights) 30:00 [3]

Had my physio appointment today and could barely lift any of my usual weights. Having back pain with pushups too. We cut it short and I'm supposed to take a week of weights and just do some cardio. Feeling pretty disappointed.

Gym - Cardio 25:00 [3]

Cross trainer and bike. We'll see how it goes for this week.

Sunday May 13, 2007 #

Gym - Cardio 55:00 [3]

Yeah, so my foot is still not feeling that good. Did rowing, exercycle and cross trainer. Definately doesn't have the same appeal as being outside but is better than doing nothing especially as they don't hurt my foot at all.

Saturday May 12, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:13 [4] 2.0 km (4:37 / km)

I must have been feeling the need to vent for me to keep up such a good pace.

Gym (Weights) 1:05:00 [3]

My arms feel heavy.

Note

My foot hurt this morning so I'll take some days off running and see how I am on Tuesday.

Friday May 11, 2007 #

Run hills 56:00 [3] 9.85 km (5:41 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

I like running up hills for some bizzare reason but I still hate the hill up to Musick Pt the most even if it is the least steep...perhaps that's why it's so painful!

Thursday May 10, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:27 [4] 2.0 km (4:44 / km)

Managed to keep below 2.25min/500m the whole way which was pretty good. Felt wasted by the end.

Gym (Weights) 1:00:00 [4]

The new leg exercises are tough. My right leg is constantly lagging. Increased the weight on the chest press. Pull ups improving along with general arm strength. My left shoulder hasn't felt so heavy lately.

Wednesday May 9, 2007 #

Run 55:00 [3] 9.35 km (5:53 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

Feeling pretty good apart from the odd twinge in my foot but I don't really like running in the dark 'cause I feel unco.

Note

Gotta make sure I watch how I tie up my bootlaces at ice skating tonight so I don't kill my feet again. How do you tie your boots up as tight as you can but not too tight so you don't hurt your feet? Hmmm, an interesting dilemma.

Ice Skating 2:00:00 [3]

I appear to have lost one of my decent possum gloves so had to use budget Glassons fingerless ones so the tips of my fingers felt like ice. Balance was great tonight. We did some work on the deadly turn but I kinda freaked out at really giving it a go. Turning to my left is much wobblier than my right. Backwards C pushes getting there (got all the way to the other end of the rink several times). Feet hurt again afterwards but not too bad and my knees ached. Gotta relax more.

Tuesday May 8, 2007 #

Run long (Ponsonby) 1:34:00 [3] 15.4 km (6:06 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

Felt really stiff after the session yesterday (probably mostly from the damn push ups). A pretty slow run but I probably couldn't have pushed much harder even if I tried! Funnily enough I didn't feel nearly so stiff by the end of the run (although that could be only temporary!) but the final hill up Williamson Ave from the park felt like a killer even though it's only a gradual incline.

Monday May 7, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:26 [4] 2.0 km (4:43 / km)

Like last time I started crap and improved heaps on the last 1000m. Now I've just gotta be able to keep it up for the whole 2000m. Considering I was trying to hold a conversation with my physio at the same time I could probably dig in a little more!

Gym (Weights) 1:00:00 [4]

The physio added in some leg exercises and we discovered that my right leg is nearly 1cm narrower than my left which must be because of that major injury a few years ago at Rainbow's End. Plus he's got me doing pushups (no girly ones allowed either!). Yeah, this morning was tough and my arms feel all wobbly now.

Note

Feeling stiff all over after the new exercises from the physio this morning especially in my upper arms. Everything feels sore and a bit wobbly!

Sunday May 6, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Shanks Pony score event) 55:58 [3] ***
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco IX WR

Never done a score event before (apart from the YODA street ones we made in Dunedin). I was way to cautious with how many I planned for so ended up dithering near the end wondering whether to go further out and get some more or not. Got 53 points which was okay I guess. I didn't exactly push myself in the second half. I need O shoes! Hopefully they are arriving soon.

Saturday May 5, 2007 #

Run long 1:30:00 [2] 15.2 km (5:55 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

Felt pretty good today and thought about going further but thought I better save something for the score event tomorrow!

Friday May 4, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:37 [4] 2.0 km (4:49 / km)

After a shocking start I really made a comeback in the last 800 metres which was truly cool. Actually rowing isn't so awful afterall!

Gym (Weights for Arms) 50:00 [4]

All good today although the pull ups machine is pretty tough especially using the middle handgrips on the harder weight. Maybe I was just feeling more confident about myself today.

Thursday May 3, 2007 #

Run 56:00 [2] 9.35 km (5:59 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

Nice and gentle this morning. My ankles still look funny from skating last night, like they are too narrow, but not as bad as last night!

Wednesday May 2, 2007 #

Run long (Ponsonby) 1:30:00 [2] 15.42 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

It was possibly even quicker than that time since I spent time standing around at traffic lights and going to the toilet half way round! Felt great, confident. What a relief after how I felt on Monday morning. Arm muscles are feeling shot though.

Ice Skating 2:00:00 [4]

T pushes tonight! Sounds silly but it wasn't until the coach told me I needed all my weight on the inside edge of my pushing foot that I actually got it. Straight lines are not so good but I was really beginning to master the T push on a curve. Plus I was feeling confident and well balanced on the ice tonight. I could have stayed much longer if I didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn for work the next day.

Tuesday May 1, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:23 [4] 2.0 km (4:42 / km)

Brilliant!! How did I manage that? Perhaps having the physio hanging over my shoulder egging me on was part of it. My form is getting better.

Gym (Weights for Arms) 50:00 [4]

Increased some weights (the preacher bench a very notable increase which was cool) as well as a new exercise on the swiss ball. Physio worked with me on exercises to try and correct the movement that I've been doing when running on my left shoulder since the accident which has been causing me all sorts of pains.
