Team run with Jono, Cameron and Ee. I just hung out at the back mostly with Ee. Hip is causing trouble since my leg doesn't seem to want to bend properly there but I didn't run quite as retardedly as the orienteering on Wednesday and seemed to loosen up a tiny bit near the end.

Jono said I was supposed to aim for an intensity of 3 but it's difficult when everyone around you is going hard out so clearly I pushed it too hard again, I'm hopeless! Couldn't do the sprints so just turned up the wheel more.

Hobbling round course 2. Was kind of nice being out by myself but it took so long to get everywhere 'cause I was going slow! Well, at least I could sort of run (although I suspect I overdid it as usual).

Not sure how long we were out for. A bit stop start after I fell off coming down some stupid hill. Steep and very sandy near the bottom with a whole lot of roots everywhere. Lost control and the front wheel struck a big root so I came flying over the top. Hips landed on handlebars. More blood than I expected and everything feels painful. Managed to sort of slowly bike for a little while longer after that but had a lot of difficulty.

Team run with Jono, Brent and Ee. I hung out with Ee at the back keeping him going so it was a pretty cruisey pace. Impressed with Brent though. Waffles for brunch again...more awesomeness.

To Honda Newmarket to pick up my car via the OTH summit and then round the block when I got there 'cause I was early. Legs felt good but my stomach felt awful so there was some very slow patches especially near the beginning where I wondered whether I should turn around and go back. It seemed to sort of clear up in the end though.

Following Jono round course 1. He did a good job 'cause for once we didn't overrun any controls (and therefore I didn't have to run further than necessary!). I like the Unitec map.

Up the summit of OTH via the dirt track twice (up track, down road and round to the start of the track again) then back the long way because I felt like killing myself. Okay, not quite but I did feel like the challenge. Almost made it three times but then realised the madness in that.

Biking to Chris's then to the parents with a few detours and hills. It was good apart from witnessing a weird boy-racer confrontation where they stopped in the middle of the road, got out and had a screaming match - right where I wanted to go. They must have somehow known there was a police car heading their way as they got in their cars all quite suddenly and screeched off in different directions just before the cop car cruised down the road. Weird.

Team run round One Tree Hill with Jono, Ee and Cameron. It was a pretty cruisy pace which was good 'cause my legs were feeling tired. Waffles for brunch afterwards - perfect!

Ran through One Tree Hill to the end of Puriri Drive where I waited for Jono. We then ran back through One Tree Hill up to the summit via the dirt track then back home via the longer route. Jono was dying. The dirt track is a killer but this time I made it without having to walk any of it (although I felt like I was going to be sick near the top). We raced each other from the lights at Mt Smart Road to the letterbox. I lost but only just so Jono must have been truly buggered! Exhausting.

Barely awake most of the day. It was going to be a total rest day (i.e. do nothing but lie around and read) but tech issues at work meant I had to drive in and wait for ages for my workmate to arrive (I lost my work keys...but I found them again tonight...yay!) just to plug one damn cable in. There went half a day :(

Hmmm, that was a bit of a moan wasn't it!

This went all good...apart from 165 (whatever control that was). I don't know why but every time I tried to attack it I kept ending up too far to the left. One would think I'd have learnt from that after a couple of attempts! I don't know, feeling slow and a bit useless out in the forest for the last 2 events. It was fun though.

Oh man did I suck! I got confused at #1 thinking I'd got to the track junction when I hadn't come far enough again. The tracks were a little weird but I should have looked more closely at the features and picked it up much quicker than I did. It then went okay until I didn't see control #5 on the map and took a route choice straight to #6. The number didn't match up and it took me a few seconds to work out what I'd done. Then #7 was another screw up (ended up at #6 again - that control seemed like a magnet to me!) but after that it finally improved and I finished without any other mishaps.

I started off well but had a couple of bad controls where I just didn't go far enough but was convinced I had so lost quite a bit of time there. The controls above the cliff and the descent down afterwards was pretty scary.

ARGH!! I started off okay although I was feeling pretty shattered but stuffed up 4 and 5 completely. After that I had no speed, even to run downhill on a track! I ended up walking most of the rest of the course. Little mistakes after 5 but mostly okay. Just slow and dead. It gets a 3 'cause I felt so exhausted!

I was running the first leg in the W21 relay. Considering the competition I don't think I did that terribly. The forest was quite like Woodhill with the dunes and everything so that definitely helped. I just had no energy on the second half of the course. Nice race though. Only one control that I got fairly confused on but even that wasn't too bad and the new compass is awesome :)

Sprints are not my favourite but I managed okay. Got a bit confused by the buildings in the second half but nothing too bad. My legs just can't keep up!

AWFUL! I went okay (apart from getting my hair stuck to a tree and trying to force my way out) until we hit the forest when it all went wrong. What was up with all those unmapped, huge depressions? Or was I imagining them? Or those boulders which I'm sure were more than 2.5m so I would have thought would have been mapped. Anyway, my orienteering was pretty shocking anyway so even if the map had been really good I probably still would have had a shocking run! Oh well, only the warm up.
