Orienteering race (TONIC - Middle) 1:00:28 [4] 6.1 km (9:55 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

My first experience of running elite. Was super fast out there and I had a bit of a panic and floundered at #1 but managed to get my head back into it and made it all the way until halfway to #10 before I got confused, thought I'd gone to far and decided to aim for the road and relocate...until I realised I hadn't come nearly far enough. Silly! Then proceeded to make a handful of mistakes all over the show generally being in the rough vicinity of the control but not quite in the right place to work out what was going on. Overall though I had fun which was the main aim. I think running elite will be good for me.

Orienteering (TONIC - Novel Night Race) 25:34 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Heaps of fun despite my fear of the dark! I followed lots of lights! Ended up getting 21...a bit over the 18 I was supposed to get. Almost followed Tane to get the last 3 but then thought the better of it! Was super cold and windy out on the course so I ran a bit faster than I really felt like just to keep warm!

Orienteering race (TONIC - Mini Sprints) 27:30 [4] 3.2 km (8:36 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Not my finest. Stuffed up the route choice to #2 on the first map which lost me a fair bit of time. Was pretty slow on the second map with a ridiculous mistake just getting to the finish...clearly was trying to go faster than my brain was capable of. The third map went a bit better but was buggered by then so had no speed and still made a few not so good route choices.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

After the sprint.

Note

Does chasing Keisha round the dog park for an hour count as training?!

Run 39:57 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

From the gym round the domain twice. Yay for it being light enough to go down along the forest tracks at ungodly morning hours. It was drizzling but nothing compared to the rain coming down when I'd got up. Thank goodness because I seriously couldn't face the treadmill this morning. First time in a while I really enjoyed a training run.

Gym (core and stretches) 20:00 [3]

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:30:00 [3]

With Chris. Epic. Took us a lot of warming up as we felt so unco! There were some new climbs so we tackled them (easy as pie). I finally managed the silly 17 that defeated me last time too. As usual managed to spill blood. Did my first real overhang in, well, forever. Had to cheat a bit on the final part 'cause my arm was in pain but I was determined to get to the top. Next time...

Run 33:32 [2] 6.5 km (5:10 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round OTH on the concrete tracks and road 'cause it was super muddy. Started raining after about 10 minutes but not too heavy. Good to know my legs still function after the weekend but was super slow and my legs felt really heavy. Lower right leg feels a bit out of sorts...think it was from my weird fall on the way to #1 yesterday. Hmmm...

Walk warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round the block in the rain afterwards. Was going to jog but couldn't be bothered since I felt like I'd just run slow enough already.

Note

Supposed to be climbing tonight but luckily we had a change of plan. Feeling too tired for that tonight!

Monday Oct 26, 2009 #

Orienteering race (Auckland Relays) 44:05 [4] 4.72 km (9:20 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

The medium leg for our relay team. Was pretty easy but still managed to stuff up a bit (especially #10 where I did a 90 degree error...stupid). Cut my finger on the way to #2 and it bled everywhere including the map. Wish I could have run faster through all that crap. Good fun though.

MTB 15:00 [2]

To and from Tom's. The hill was easier today.

Orienteering race (OY9 - Waiuku South) 1:14:08 [4] 6.54 km (11:20 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

Didn't exactly get off the greatest of starts. A bit shaky on 1 and 2 then shocking on 3 when I thought it was a hill but it was a depression. The open wasn't obvious from the left. Caught Craig at 5. He said he'd started after me so I was determined to get back in front and stay in front (turns out he started before me but it sure got me moving!). There was a train of about 4 or 5 of us at times and I kept finding myself at the front of this train. Exhausting work. They threw me at 12 where I went almost the right place but everyone else was way left. Control was a little to the right of me but I went a little left to look for it. Damn! Had fun but it is a cutty grass jungle out there.

Walk 1:00:00 [2]

Round OTH and up to the summit in the fading light. Needed some thinking room, fresh air and to stretch my tired legs. Was perfect.

MTB 20:00 [2]

To and from Tom's via the bank on the way there on my budget purple bike.

Orienteering race (OY8 - Waiuku South) 1:27:29 [3] 6.22 km (14:04 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

A nightmare! The first control was fine but then I proceeded to make error after error! Ran with Sandra (on course 3 but happened to have a string of about 4 controls the same) from 6 to 9. I think she was glad to have someone drag her along that first long leg from 6-7. The second long leg from 9-10 I realised a way better route choice half way but it was too late. Found the control all right but was a bit frustrated. Lovely cutty grass as always.

Run warm up/down 5:00 [2]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285

Warm down jog with Sandra.

Friday Oct 23, 2009 #

Run 50:34 [3] 9.5 km (5:19 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round the outer dirt track (and skirting the fields of calves) and round the inner road. Dirt track was intensity 2 but then there was some young dude behind me for the whole the road section so I raced him so that was a 4 (averaging at a 3!). Held him off until the very end where he passed me and then peeled off so I didn't get a chance to try and pass him again. Damn! Legs a bit tired. Probably was out a bit long but it was such an awesome morning.

Wednesday Oct 21, 2009 #

Rowing Machine warm up/down 8:40 [4] 2.0 km (4:20 / km)

Oh yeah! Fastest equal time! Today actually felt relatively easy and I wasn't even pushing it until the last 500 metres. Sped up in the last half without really thinking about it but mostly had a pretty consistent pace which is quite rare for me. Why can't it be like this every time?!

Gym (weights and core) 1:25:00 [3]

Good session. Alex made me do some of my rotator cuff things at the beginning which hurt 'cause my shoulder is bung as usual but otherwise I felt pretty good for all the other stuff and my wrist barely screamed at me at all. Yay! Maybe I can stop wearing the bandage thing soon...?

Tuesday Oct 20, 2009 #

Run warm up/down (treadmill) 22:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

10 minutes warmup, 12 minutes warmdown. Legs felt awful to start with from all that standing at the concert last night...knees all achey and my right ankle was a bit funny. But it was fine after about 5 minutes. Was probably good to get them moving and was feeling surprisingly awake for next to no sleep. No doubt it will all catch up with me in a few hours.

Run intervals (treadmill) 20:00 [5]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

The usual...2-3 minute fast with 1 minute slow in between, mostly on an incline. Next time I should do them all on the incline since I wasn't feeling too bad. I do wonder why no one wants to be on the treadmills next to me though...I must smell really bad or something 'cause two people hopped on and then got off almost straight away!

Monday Oct 19, 2009 #

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Legs really feeling the burn of cycling 4 days in a row and body feeling the lack of sleep. Still felt pretty good though. Had a bit of a niggle in my left knee to start with but it went away. I think that was from yesterday's ride.

Gym (core and stretches) 20:00 [3]

Sunday Oct 18, 2009 #

MTB (mtb) 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Skulls

Cruising round the bike park. Made it out to the far end and rode around some trails I hadn't done before. Managed to sneak in between the showers of rain too which was good. I guess I'm getting better (really trying to relax a lot more on the downhills but I naturally tense up so it's hard work) but was feeling pretty tired so was a bit sluggish and lazy especially on some of the hills.

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 1:00:00 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Lincoln's Skyspin class on the top of a 21 story building at the top of town. It was all four seasons in one hour with every combination of wind, rain and sun possible (who knew you could have sun and rain at the same time!). Awesome fun, sometimes awesome views (when you could see something other than rain and mist), awesome people (mostly our usual Monday/Friday crew) plus it was for charity so there was my good deed for the day! Bikes were a bit different to what we've got at the gym so that took a bit of getting used to though.

Friday Oct 16, 2009 #

Run warm up/down 20:19 [3] 4.0 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

To the gym and the beginning of an epic day. Running on about 4 1/2 hours sleep but felt pretty awake. Felt slow though funnily enough as the body was probably wondering what it had done to deserve this!

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Trying not to kill myself. Had a dude bike 'cause Janeane had pinched my usual (one of the clips on it sucked and now my right ankle feels a bit funny). Oh well, was a good class all the same. Debating going to this skyspin thing tomorrow but the weather is supposed to be awful and it was going to be another fairly restful day...hmmmm.

Run 46:36 [3] 8.6 km (5:25 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Home from the gym via OTH summit. Super slow and had to walk large parts of the dirt track up to the summit 'cause it was so muddy and slippery...not that my legs minded the walk! Good to get home though and be greeted by a hyperactive puppy.

Climbing (Indoor - TR) 3:00:00 [3]

With the usual crew. I noticed my right shoe is getting a little hole in it. Might need to get new shoes shortly. Well, guess I can't complain since I got given them. We were all in a funny mood tonight and tired so climbing was tough. But I did the orange 18. Oh yeah. Not sure if I could repeat that move again though. That climb is so relentlessly tough. Completed my first 20 but failed a 17 on the second move and couldn't get past it. Go figure.

Thursday Oct 15, 2009 #

Rowing Machine warm up/down 8:46 [4] 2.0 km (4:23 / km)

How I used to go any faster on this I don't know...the first 1000 metres were bearable but after that I was dead and was praying it would just be over soon! Stupid wrist doesn't help.

Gym (weights and core) 1:20:00 [3]

More exhausting than normal. I think I'm still super tired from the long weekend and my sleeping is going downhill again.

Tuesday Oct 13, 2009 #

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Janelle's class which I haven't been to in ages. Good fun and heaps of hill work.

Run (treadmill) 20:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Stretching the legs after spin.

Monday Oct 12, 2009 #

Run 30:07 [2] 6.0 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

From Brent's place round one half of Hagley Park. Slow, sluggish but the legs didn't feel so sore afterwards...just a bit tired. Cruised along with Brent riding next to me for the last 2km. Awesome weather.

Climbing (Outdoor - TR) 2:30:00 [3]

Climbing with Brent and his mate at Rapaki on the Port Hills. SO awesome (and so blisteringly hot). Hard work as it was so different to anything I've ever done before but the climbs themselves were fairly easy once I got my head around what I was supposed to be doing. I didn't want to leave but unfortunately had a plane to catch.

Sunday Oct 11, 2009 #

Run 1:04:41 [3] 13.0 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round McLeans Island and along the track to the river (where I had a little explore). I'm not sure how I feel about having distance markers every km as it meant I was looking at my watch counting down until I'd get to the next one...made the minutes go by super slow so probably a bad habbit!

Saturday Oct 10, 2009 #

Run 40:50 [3] 8.0 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round Hagley Park with Brent from his place. Felt sluggish and tired which is partly 'cause running on the flat exhausts my brain for some bizzare reason and I find it really hard. My hands turned into blocks of ice and it started to drizzle when we got back...just in time to discover Brent's flatmates had locked us out and so I turned into a block of ice all over as we wandered round the neighbourhood trying to find someone with a ladder! It's bitterly cold and I hate it!!

Climbing (Indoor - TR) 3:00:00 [3]

Indoor climbing with Brent at The Roxx. Weather wasn't quite up to our outside climbing plans. Was tough but good. A lot of climbs were quite different to Extreme Edge so it was pretty exhausting to get your mind around to start with. Good fun and Brent pushed me a bit - got up my first ever 19 which rocked but was frustrated I failed halfway up my last climb - an 18 (in all fairness, it was pretty ridiculously hard and I was a little bit short for it but you always want to finish your last climb...it's a psychological thing!).

Friday Oct 9, 2009 #

Note

Walked around the gun emplacements on the Port Hills with David in the driving rain with a bitterly southerly! Did I bring the Auckland rain down with me? If it doesn't stop raining soon I might go insane. Too much to fit in!

Thursday Oct 8, 2009 #

Rowing Machine warm up/down 8:46 [4] 2.0 km (4:23 / km)

This has got really hard again (not that it was ever remotely easy!) although I suspect the wrist might have something to do with it.

Gym (weights and core) 1:15:00 [3]

My current program...it's a killer. Managed to get the weights moving up a bit better though (each set the weights increase but the reps go down).

Wednesday Oct 7, 2009 #

Run 49:05 [3] 10.0 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Running home from work. Broke the 50 minute barrier...yay!!! Weird 'cause apart from the first 15 minutes I felt so sluggish and was fairly convinced it would be around the 52 minute mark. Pack felt light today though despite having everything it normally has in it. I've noticed that my breathing is not so good in the afternoons/evenings...interesting.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round the block once I got home.

Tuesday Oct 6, 2009 #

Run warm up/down (treadmill) 22:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

10 minute warmup, 12 minute warm down. Always amazes me how much stiffness and achiness can melt away in a nice warmup!

Run intervals (treadmill) 20:00 [5]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Same as last week but with a couple of sets done with a small incline. Felt all right at the time but getting old stomach pains afterwards. Went away quicker than I remember though.

Monday Oct 5, 2009 #

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

My thighs were burning today...probably from the mtbing yesterday (especially 'cause I didn't stretch afterwards yesterday as it was so cold and wet). Wrist and most of my lower right arm was sore. Damn it. I need to ice it more religiously but at least the bandage thing makes it bearable. Anyway, tough class but was good especially because Coldplay was on the speakers before class started (even Yellow! Yay!) so that put me in a good mood.

Gym (core and stretches) 20:00 [3]

Climbing 2:15:00 [3]

With Chris...and my new harness!!! Very exciting! It was really cold which made it pretty hard to get going and I was struggling on an easy climb! Oh well, we decided to just get straight into it after our shocking warmup and I mostly climbed okay but than damn orange 18 is annoying me as again it's a case of being a bit too short. My right arm is really not good though. Struggled more than usual with it tonight. But I did ice it up afterwards which felt good.

Sunday Oct 4, 2009 #

MTB (mtb) 2:20:00 [3]
shoes: Skulls

Out at the bike park in the mud and the rain. Good fun! Even cruised on down to the tracks at the far end of the park which was probably a good idea since the closer in tracks were really cut up. Felt pretty good.

Saturday Oct 3, 2009 #

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Friday Oct 2, 2009 #

Run 20:23 [3] 4.0 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

To the gym...best not to ask what time I got up in order to do this. Pack felt nice and light but I felt slow and sluggish which was rather understandable! Pretty warm out.

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

More hills than normal so more pain than I wanted. Legs felt pretty good though once they got warmed up.

Run 37:52 [3] 7.5 km (5:03 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

From the gym down to near the bottom of Parnell to drop off a birthday present (thank god it was small and light) then back up the damn hill, along Broadway then down Great South Road to home again. Beautiful morning. Didn't feel nearly as shattered as I anticipated but I'm going back to bed anyway. Lower calves are a bit tight but not too bad. Rest of my legs feel fine. Pack felt much heavier on the return journey though!

Run warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round the block once I got home.

Thursday Oct 1, 2009 #

Rowing Machine warm up/down 8:46 [4] 2.0 km (4:23 / km)

Dead...arms are still sore from climbing and not sleeping all that well again either.

Gym (weights and core) 1:20:00 [3]

Tough...but then again I am weak and this is a hard program.
