Note
(rest day)

Does walking from our car to the BBQ count?! Planned to go for a proper walk but it never happened. It was a very productive day though.

Event: The DUAL

Run race (The Dual) 2:43:09 [4] 21.0 km (7:46 / km) +553m 6:52 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 3

Started way too far back and spent the first part of the hill dodging peoples elbows (which always seemed to be at roughly the same height as my head for some reason) to get past them. Second climb up Rangitoto was fine too. The descent down was a little slow as it was basically single-file through the rocks. So I was doing pretty well for the first 12km until we hit the long, flat rocky section around the edge of Rangitoto where my feet hurt and I was feeling a bit dead. Didn't want to fall 'cause I don't think my bones would have coped too well with that. Hung on to the girl in front of me who was run/walking that section and that kept me going but I lost her at the end when I stopped to grab a drink and she kept going. Probably if I'd managed to stay with her I would have run a whole lot more of the final hill but by then I couldn't be bothered so there was a whole lot of walking. Was weird because the parts I did run were pretty okay and hills are the one thing I'm semi good at but I couldn't get myself to keep running. Happy to finish and feel okay about my time but I know I had more in there if I'd been willing to push it up that last hill.

Managed to hydrate myself though which was quite an achievement. Basically I've discovered that there's no point me drinking water 'cause it goes straight through me and I end up feeling even more thirsty. Electrolyte drinks watered down seem to be the best (started on Friday night). Only suffered a mild headache in the afternoon from too much sun waiting for Jono to clean his bike.

Run 20:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

Round the Domain. Just making sure my legs still worked in prep for tomorrow. The spa afterwards was good.

Orienteering race (SS Big King) 51:00 [2] 5.1 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 3

Round course 2 with Jono. We just cruised and walked up most of the hills. Had to wait for 50 bazillion scouts to clip one control though and then Dave Crofts tried to push in but I told him he had to get in line like the rest of us!
