Day 2 of the St James. The track was much rougher and more wild today which was fun. About an hour into the ride Michael got his third puncture so we had a nice morning tea sitting in the grassland enjoying the view. After that there were lots of river crossings, a couple of awesome swing bridges and some pretty tough climbs. The last climb up to Peters Pass Junction felt like it was going to destroy me completely!
Such a cool trip and awesome riding companions! Can't wait for the holiday adventures to begin now.

The first day of the St James with Michael, Lara, Matt, Viv and Dave.
Got about 3km down the gravel road from the homestead when Michael got his first puncture so we stopped for lunch! Continued on along the road to the official start of the track. A nice gentle climb up over Maling Pass followed by a sharp 600 metre descent into the Waiau Valley and along to the hut at Lake Guyon for the night. Poor Michael got his second puncture just after the turnoff to the hut (on the other tyre this time!).

Had a lovely refreshing dip in the lake once I finally braved the water.

Little loop in the valley (biked to the end of Bowenvale again). Feeling okay and trying to be good and take it easy before the weekend.

Nice little ride out to Halswell and to the end of the road above the quarry then back again in 29 degrees heat and a vicious wind. I heard rumours that it reached 31 or something this evening while we were hanging out at the Santa run. I could believe that...

Biked over to the end of Bowenvale then ran up through Vic Park via some random tracks, getting a little lost and then chased by wasps and then a little bit more lost. Then down cedrics and the Harry Ell, over into Vic Park again and down into the valley. Wish I could have been out there for longer since it was wonderful but just minding the foot a little bit. I have horrific biking tan lines on my legs. Perhaps if I run earlier in the day I might be able to even it out a bit more so I don't look so stupid in shorts...?
