rail trail with Tarno

Note

step #1 'clean-up' t right knee medial meniscus tears and small tear in left knee ASAP.

Downtime: approx one week in wheelchair

step #2 osteochondral allograft transplant plus osteotomy at same time in left knee. Surgery will be 'sometime in the next 2 to 8 months with an only 2 to 4 day notice".

Downtime: approx one week in wheelchair and 4-5 months on crutches with complete leg cast.

Result: 80-85% success rate at start. 10 years out 80% success rate

Mike: "Can I be active in sports again?"
Surgeon: "I'm going to encourage you to be active"
Mike: "High impact sports?"
Surgeon: "What kind of high impact?"
Mike: "Running...maybe 2 or 3 times a week max. Can you give me that?"
Surgeon: "Absolutely... but on a treadmill right? no roads"
Mike: "Well on trails or in the woods on generally soft ground. "
Surgeon: "Oh even better no problem. stay off the roads"
Mike: :-)

So I'm happy that this is closer to being figured out but I'm also a wee bit freaked out on the no weight bearing for 4-5 months thing. The 7 weeks on crutches back in 2007 was hard enough.
