My favourite science journalist is George Monbiot from the Guardian. So I was very pleased to see that today he is shedding light on the greatest environmental disaster of the 21st century (so far)! What is that?

The 2015 Indonesian Peat Fires

Because I also just so happen to be a peat researcher that studies wildfire and land management impacts on these important ecosystems makes this article even more exciting. But exciting is the wrong word for this disaster. >100,000 pre mature deaths to air quality issues in SE Asia from burning peat. Daily GHG emissions exceed the US economy. Total GHG emissions from this year's fires exceed that of Germany's annual emissions (and Germany likes coal again). Still not convinced this is an issue? Well Harrison Ford is pissed off too - and we know what he can do to nazis, storm troopers and replicants.
