Snowboarding - skinning 2:15:00 [4] 5.5 mi (24:32 / mi) +890m 10:09 / km
2 laps up the Kendall Stump from Central exit. Still great snow up there and really deep. Bow wave deep in places. Pit showed moderate stability but it was considerable in places.

Ace morning dawn patrol and back for 9:45.

Saturday Mar 29

Event: Vertfest - Alpental

Snowboarding - skinning hills 2:15:00 [4] 5.0 mi (27:00 / mi) +910m 10:43 / km
16in new + 8 previous day = very deep powder at 25 F. Bust a skin track up Hyak which was really hard work. Snow was too deep and my board not enough wax. Great fun for 3 laps and pretty beat afterwards. Must wax!!

Friday Mar 28

Snowboarding - skinning hills 1:50:00 [4] 5.0 mi (21:59 / mi) +550m 10:11 / km
Splitboard at Hyak - Dawn Patrol. Nice snow but got delayed getting there due to semi trucks spinning out and blocking the road. Probably lost 3 more runs.

Nice to get out pre work though.

Snowboarding - skinning 2:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (24:00 / mi) +500m 11:23 / km
Beautiful morning up the Kendall Knob for some early splitter turns going solo. Crunchy crap but actually very grippy on the skins on the way up but had to use the crampons on the ridge since it was really windblown.

North facing slope and west were awful but I opted for the south which had some very tasty windblown pow on it. Was exceptionally good considering what I was expecting. Traversed round at 1/2 way down onto the west slope to make it back to the car and that part down was the white trash your granny warned you to avoid. Still it was worth it for the 30 or so white room turns beforehand. Sun was out and it was super pretty up there but the south slope will be cooked really quickly. Lots of avi debris around too, likely from Sat when the slopes got pretty warm.

Trail Run hills 1:41:00 [3] 10.0 mi (10:06 / mi) +750m 5:05 / km

Run up Tiger 3 from Iss high school. Felt a bit tired to start then manged to run all the way up at a fairly slow pace. Cold up top so straight down and my legs got pretty tired.

This was the 1st trail run involving hills in a very long time (like at least 3 months) and I thought the BC training and paragliding hiking would have helped but I'm way out of practice for the hills.

Friday Mar 21

Snowboarding - skinning 6:30:00 [3] 7.0 mi (55:42 / mi) +1160m 22:51 / km
Splitboard outing to Crystal with Jeff and John. I chose to take the crew to Pickhandle basin and it was looking dicey to start as we had to break trail through the woods. When finally reaching the basin the goods unfolded.

Nice super steep chute lines, totally clean and between knee and thigh deep really light powder. Sun came out often and we totally ripped through that place. It was awesome on N facing slope.

Run down the backside of the Pickhandle point to Crystal basin. This was a South facing slope, steep and much more sustained. After pitting we just ripped down. Figured going fast would be a better option. More of a crust at about 10 in but I went so fast I never touched it. That was bomber. Bit of a fight through the trees to get out but nothing an AR racer can't handle!

Thursday Mar 20

Racquetball 50:00 [3]
Against Bill V. I won 2-1. Up 14-5 in 2nd and nearly lost 15-14. Down 0-13 in 3rd and nearly won 13-15!

Strange.

Spin to the bike shop to get spokes fixed.

The guy also bent my rear mech hanger into place and voila the gears shift smooth as silk for the 1st time in months and months. Bad news though, freehub is shot.

West lake home - headwind but dry.

Tuesday Mar 18

Swim 35:00 [4] 1.4 km (25:00 / km)
Not sure on the distance but Bill V made me work hard. I'd do 6 for his 8 then a technique tip. Arms got quite heavy as I was trying hard and flapping like an octopus. This is why triathlons are not for me!

Monday Mar 17

Road run 41:40 [4] 6.5 mi (6:24 / mi) +20m 3:57 / km

Good speed run today to Blyth.

Out 21:25
Back 20:15

Out was fast so I was suprised I was quicker on the way back.

Sunday Mar 16

Snowboarding 2:00:00 [1]
Runs on lift served with the splitboard. Quite fun but heavy. Including out to Piss pass and run down from there.
Snowboarding - skinning hills 1:45:00 [4] +300m
Splitboard skinning section in the far Alpy BC. Up to Piss Pass by accident, meant to go to Great Scott. Down to Source lake and up a bit of Chair Peak. Vis naff, stab not great so headed back to car. Fun exercise though.

Friday Mar 14

Racquetball 50:00 [3]
Against Bill V. Long games and I lost 2-0 - grr

Thursday Mar 13

Gym 45:00 [2]
Keepy uppies with the football for 10 mins running around the gym. Got 100 which is good for me.

Quick spin round the weights followed by 250m of swim. Arms were tired after the weights.

Wednesday Mar 12

Snowboarding - skinning 4:30:00 [3] 5.0 mi (53:59 / mi) +1220m 19:05 / km
Holy crap, this was one of the best days this year. Went up to Chair Peak at the end of the Alpental valley with Jeff. I set the skin track since the mountain was TOTALLY untouched. Stability was great but a but awkward with sloughing 1st time up. We were so delighted and the run down to source lake was amazing. Nice mix of little steeps, some trees, chutes and drops. It was fantastic. So good in fact I blew off the dawn patrol aspect and we went back up to the top again. Run down in the sun with bottomless powder doesn't get any better than that. We creamed down and destroyed the big fan. Made some great ego photos looking back up the mountain. 4000ft of pow for breakfast I can handle any day of the year. STOKED!
Hike hills 45:00 [2] 1.5 mi (29:59 / mi) +520m 8:58 / km
shoes: Montrail Continental Divide#1
Hike up Poo-Poo pt at 6:15 for a dusk flight with Rich.
Paragliding (Flight #24) 8:00 [0]
Took me 3 attempts to get off and even at that I clipped a big tree. Thought I was going to end up high in a tree but kicked it out of the way and got out OK. Thats a few close shaves I've had and I hope the new wing goes up better in no wind forward launches.

However a great end to a great day (even managed 5 hrs work) and finished it off in the brewhouse with 2 pints stout and a Kobi burger - hell yeah that was a day alright!

Tuesday Mar 11

Kiting 35:00 [1]
Really stong gusty and switchy winds made this hard going and also near impossible. I'f I didn't get dragged the down the pitch and got the wing up the wind changed direction and I would go all over the place. Too many trees nearby causing turbulence.

Monday Mar 10

Gym 35:00 [3]
Mixed bag. Some hoops / quick spin round the weights a 2 lengths of the pool. I know only 2 but I forgot the goggles and borrowed some lost and found which were better of in the used and abused section.

Sunday Mar 9

Mountain Bike hills 1:07:00 [4] 12.0 mi (5:34 / mi) +500m 3:04 / km

Up Cougar Zoo to top hill, down and up Montreaux past all the 1M homes. Nice quick spin.

Saturday Mar 8

Hike 40:00 [3] 1.5 mi (26:39 / mi) +500m 8:08 / km
shoes: Pearl Izumi Vagabond
Hike up to South Launch at Poo-Poo with Rinker.
Paragliding (Flight #23, Solo #20) 15:00 [0]
Nice launch off South. Headed out and buzzed back and forth a few times before heading for LZ. Nice smooth air. Landed a bit long as there was no wind in LZ.

Friday Mar 7

Kiting 35:00 [1]
Actually worked up quite a sweat. Tried to get the hang of forward launches with no wind in the park. No joy, only managed one after doing multiple bursts of speed and even that one was totally the wrong direction.

Thursday Mar 6

Mountain Bike (Commute) 44:00 [3] 12.0 mi (3:40 / mi) +20m 2:16 / km

Idlewood Park to work. Cold out but OK once moving.
Racquetball 40:00 [3]

Mountain Bike (Commute) 45:00 [3] 12.0 mi (3:45 / mi) +20m 2:19 / km

Work to Idlewood, bit of a headwind.

Wednesday Mar 5

Hike hills 35:00 [5] 1.5 mi (23:20 / mi) +520m 6:59 / km
shoes: Montrail Continental Divide#1
Hike up Poo-Poo Pt with the paraglider pack. Went fairly hard at it but was a bit slower than my best. Nice and warm out.
Paragliding (Flight #22, Solo #19) 22:00 [0]
Great flight today. Did a good few soaring turns along the ridge but not too close to the trees. It was really fun and I got some good time in the glider with weight shifting etc. Landed in the money so way better than last outing.

Tuesday Mar 4

Snowboarding - skinning hills 2:15:00 [1] 3.0 mi (45:00 / mi) +450m 19:04 / km
Great dawn patrol up Kendal Knob from Central exit with Ed from work. Picked up a girl about 2/3 way up and she knew the way better than me. Great snow up top leading to cascade's best concrete on lower 1/3 leading to crusty bombs in the last 200yrds in the trees.

Only downside was Ed locked his keys in car with the skins in so had to spin back to N. Bend to collect spare.

What a way to get it before heading to work.

Monday Mar 3

Gym 40:00 [1]
1500m on the rower then the rest weights on upper body and some legs.

Saturday Mar 1

Event: Vertfest - Crystal Mountain

Snowboarding - skinning race 1:40:00 [5] +810m
This was really, really hard. Went out pretty fast and was up around 5th including the elite folk. Had some issues getting up the 1st slope with the splitboard. Couldn't hold an edge worth a damn so it was very delicate then I'd fall on my face. Needed the crampons which were handily in the car. Bootpack up a really steep face was tough carrying the board too. Up to Campbell Lodge then up to High Campbell and again I had major issues traversing and on the steeps. Had to bootpack. Was running in 1st for the split division but the other guy overtook me here. He had a proper split with an edge on it. Nasty traverse made my legs burn like crazy and home. Came in 2nd out of 2 so this could be my 1st last place! I was mid table against all the randonee racers. The racers who won the elite race are amazing. I reckon they would give Hart a run for his money up the hills. They had some lighter than hell skis which weighted about as much as 1 of my bindings. I can be fairly confident I had the heaviest rig to cart up.
Snowboarding 3:00:00 [2] +150m
Rode for a few hours. High Cambell then over to Northway since I'd never been on the chair there. A bit of decent fresh snow there high up but the funnel down was bumpy and with my tired legs I was a bit out of sorts.

Good news is that I raced today, went down a bunch of double black runs and had no issues with the knee - thats the most important thing.

Also won an OR jacket - they make some good stuff you know.
