Event: Vertfest - Crystal Mountain

Snowboarding - skinning race 1:40:00 [5]+810m
This was really, really hard. Went out pretty fast and was up around 5th including the elite folk. Had some issues getting up the 1st slope with the splitboard. Couldn't hold an edge worth a damn so it was very delicate then I'd fall on my face. Needed the crampons which were handily in the car. Bootpack up a really steep face was tough carrying the board too. Up to Campbell Lodge then up to High Campbell and again I had major issues traversing and on the steeps. Had to bootpack. Was running in 1st for the split division but the other guy overtook me here. He had a proper split with an edge on it. Nasty traverse made my legs burn like crazy and home. Came in 2nd out of 2 so this could be my 1st last place! I was mid table against all the randonee racers. The racers who won the elite race are amazing. I reckon they would give Hart a run for his money up the hills. They had some lighter than hell skis which weighted about as much as 1 of my bindings. I can be fairly confident I had the heaviest rig to cart up.
Snowboarding 3:00:00 [2]+150m
Rode for a few hours. High Cambell then over to Northway since I'd never been on the chair there. A bit of decent fresh snow there high up but the funnel down was bumpy and with my tired legs I was a bit out of sorts.

Good news is that I raced today, went down a bunch of double black runs and had no issues with the knee - thats the most important thing.

Also won an OR jacket - they make some good stuff you know.

Gym (PT Actually) 20:00 [1]
Graduated from PT today! A bunch of extension exercise with no issues. Staying away from PT since I can do most stuff again, except skiing and football (soccer for you yanks).
Kiting 30:00 [1]
(rest day)
Kiting my wing at lunch since I was so awful yesterday at launch. Nice breeze and I got a bit of a workout running around.

Really resting today due to Vertfest race tomorrow.

Hike 45:00 [3]1.5 mi (29:59 / mi) +520m 8:58 / km
shoes: Montrail Continental Divide#1
Hike up Poo-Poo Pt with Bill$. Carried the wing 2/3rd of way and he carried the 1st till he got tired!
Paragliding (Flight #21, solo#18) 8:00 [0]
Horrible flight. No wind and I was forced into doing a forward launch. Took me 3 attempts to get it right and the right one was frickin close to a major disaster as I nearly hit a tree way up just off launch. To add insult to injury I made a bags of the landing and went way too long ending at N end of LZ just catching the blackberry bushes. That takes some work to get everything out without damage.

Not my best day in the sky althought he views were great!

Mountain Bike (Commute) 1:30:00 [3]23.0 mi (3:54 / mi) +50m 2:25 / km
rhr:42 slept:6.0 weight:169lbs shoes: Pearl Izumi Vagabond
East Lake to work today. Full 23 miles on the MTB is 20 mins slower than using the road bike - wow!

Met the guy from 7 Hills of Kirkland ride last year who I towed the whole way on the century ride. Well he passed me and I got a bit of a drag for a few miles. Turns out he rode wait for it...

32,000 miles last year!!!

F'in hell, thats more time than Hart did training last year and it was all on a 5 geared REI Novara hybrid bike! NUTZ - however he was on a slightly more respectable road bike today. That is however around 31 hours a week / 52 weeks a year at just under 20mpg. Bloody Nora!!
Swim 40:00 [3]0.8 mi (50:01 / mi)
Swim at the Y. Bill V gave some tips afterwards.
Mountain Bike (Commute) 1:25:00 [3]23.0 mi (3:42 / mi) +50m 2:17 / km
shoes: Pearl Izumi Vagabond
East Lake home. Better than yesterday but still a slog on the MTB.

Monday Feb 25

Mountain Bike (Commute) 1:15:00 [3]18.1 mi (4:07 / mi) +50m 2:33 / km

1st commute in ages. West lake and river trail to Bothell. Wore too much as it was in the low 40's out. Nice to be on the bike in the early mornings again.

Gym 40:00 [2]
Run around the b-ball court then some quick laps in the pool.
Mountain Bike (Commute) 1:12:00 [3]18.14 mi (3:58 / mi) +80m 2:26 / km
shoes: Pearl Izumi Vagabond
Back home on the MTB into the headwind. Very slow going although was faster than the way in, maybe I stopped in Starbucks longer than I though this morning? Big knobblies not great against the wind. Nice and warm though.

Sunday Feb 24

Hike hills 45:00 [3]1.5 mi (29:59 / mi) +520m 8:58 / km

Hike up Poo-Poo with the paraglider pack.
Hike 25:00 [1]1.5 mi (16:39 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Continental Divide#1
Hike down Poo-Poo with the paraglider pack. WInd coming out of east is a very bad thing so couldn't fly. 1 guy tried and ended up in a tree. A couple others managed to get off but I didn't even try. Know thy limits...
