| Racing season has begun... with a bang.
Theme of the day: "see if you can count the crashes"
Rode A's. Symmetrics was in the house (but not in full force as they were pretty much a non factor). A couple nonames went on the first lap - should have gone - but I assumed Symm would shut them down. On lap 2 I saw Kindree go - so I sprinted up to him (for old time sake) - but nothing came of it. Lap 3 - dropped back to take off my arm warmers - just in time to see a wave of rear wheels leaping into the heavens... for a second it seemed like a logo-high ocean swell and I better sheet in and get ready to fly. Somehow I managed to stay upright - though I did get tangled up and bent a spoke. Then chase hard hard to get back on the peleton... but they slowed anyway. I figured the jitters would subside... but the party was just getting started. I stayed in the pack for the next 4 or 5 and tried to behave myself. Eventually I worked my way up and noticed Kindree again rolling ahead so I went - with apparently two Syms in tow. Round the corner they sprinted around and somehow I got back on. Thought we had a break but next corner third wheel got spooked and went down super hard about a meter to my side. By then the other categories decided to get in on the action and the road became littered with crashes. Ambulances were called and our pace went from neutral to hard to neutral. Tried to break a few more times but kept having to slow for crashes. About six to go I flatted (almost exactly like last year) which was disappointing - but they canceled the race a couple laps later. Never seen anything like it.
Total carnage: six crashes (that I knew about) - and three ambulances. I think I'll pass on the next short and flat race... too many punters in the mix.
** Found out days later (from Jack) that those punks probably were "imposters"... the big boys from Symmetrics are in a tour in Mexico... should be back for next weekend. |
