Friday Feb 29

running 25:00 [3]
Warm up/down
running 23:00 [5]
60 x 30 x 15. First 6 steep uphill then bit flatter. Horrible weather with swathes of rain driving horizontally across the valley so i put on some lycra, hummed that kylie song and got on with it. Legs felt good, probably as a result of the swim this morn.

Thursday Feb 28

running 45:00 [3]
Wadsworth moor - Crow hill - edge of Luddenden valley - moor - Old Town. Nice evening for it. My hamstrings were really tight this morning but hydro loosened them off nicely.

Was hard work cos i just aint got time to do these anymore.

Wednesday Feb 27

orienteering 56:00 [4]
Tech training at Ogden. Navigating pretty smootly, aimed off too much on 1 control and ended up losing about 45sec-1min. Tried to push it pretty hard but didnt feel great, bit tired or summat. Need to find my Harden map so i can do some training there on way home.
running 30:00 [3]
Long warm down around the golf course and back through the forest.

Tuesday Feb 26

running 31:00 [2]
By eck it was windy tonight. Stopped off in Oxenhope and did a short loop around some steep fields and moorland. Faffed quite alot as hadnt a clue where i was going and had to climb through about 50 stiles. Some very aggressive sheep decided to charge at me in an angry snorting manner forcing me to make a tactical retreat by legging it back down the hill and jumping the fence. Then they stood around looking hard infront of their sheep mates, baastards.

Monday Feb 25

running 31:00 [3]
Steady test run on Haworth moor, through the terrain to the Bronte Waterfalls then back along the ridge. Overcast and bit rainy but i was loving just being out running and felt pretty darn chipper. Feel like i should widen my literary knowledge and read Wuthering Heights but i looked up the summary on Wikipedia and it sounds a bit depressing so i wont bother.

Busy day...

Wednesday Feb 20

running 32:00 [3]
Warm up/down
running 27:00 [5]
120 x 45 x 10. Boring road intervals. First 5 up a v steep hill, then levelled off a bit. Mika: WHY?

Tuesday Feb 19

running 59:00 [3]
Thick fog was suffocating Keighley all day but right on the tops of the moor the sea of fog broke revealing a gorgeous evening. Freezing cold but could see for miles. Did a similar Wadsworth moor route to last week.

cycling 15:00 [1]
Hopped on the brand spanking new turbo trainer. Whacked it on the hardest gear and pedalled as hard as poss. My legs were burning by about half way through and i was sweating buckets. Not sure what the neighbours will think about the vibrations coming through their ceiling.
C • You've got that vibe. 1

Sunday Feb 17

orienteering 48:00 [3]
Tech training at Cowpe, glorious weather again. Good to be out in tbe hills.
running 30:00 [4]
Tempo ran between the Naden Reservoirs then straight up a steep spur and up onto Knowl Hill, through the terrain back up to the newly built Cowpe windfarm.
orienteering 40:00 [3]
More control picking.

Saturday Feb 16

running 54:00 [3]
Moor. Tired from a long walk this afternoon. Walking = annoying.

Friday Feb 15

orienteering 26:00 [3]
Finished work early so dropped into Ogden Water on the way home. Did O intervals mixing legs lasting about 1-5 mins with recoveries lasting about 30 secs - 2.00mins. Was vaguely unsatisfying as the orienteering was obviously very stop start ish and was running slightly like a gimp as was trying o shoes for first time since the Tankersly incident. They still hurt. Got the navigation right which is the main thing. Would have done longer but they were locking the car park and had to leg it back.
orienteering 30:00 [4]
The efforts. Ogdens pretty rough.

Thursday Feb 14

Free weights-core stability 30:00 [2]
running 36:00 [3]
Steady run after weights. Considering how i felt like i had a fat man on my back yesterday i was surprisingly chipper tonight and the running felt easy. Pootled down the canal, through Mytholmroyd, up the big hill and back through some fields.

Wednesday Feb 13

running 1:00:00 [3]
From Penistone Hill onto the moors without a map and just a vague sense of direction. Found myself at the summit of the Stoop and from there i cut across the tussocks to Earnshaw house which is apparently the inspiration for the house in Wuthering Heights, or so the plaque on the side stated. Then back down the hill via Bronte waterfall. Dunno why people always describe these moors as 'bleak', parts of the Peaks or Bowland are much more remote. Felt a bit like a zombie so was glad to pause and take in some of the views.

Tuesday Feb 12

running 17:00 [3]
From Peckett Well onto Wadsworth Moor.
running 30:00 [5]
5 mins x 1.30 x 5. Started doing the reverse of the Wadsworth trog race then got onto the catchment drain path and did most of them along there. Last rep and a half were through the tussocky boggy moor near Cock Hill. Was proper sleepy driving home but perked up once running and had a really good session. Great evening with the sun sinking behind the hills halfway through the session with the light suddenly going and the temperature dropping. Very picturesque. Had finished training by 6.30, felt like a right slacker.
running 20:00 [3]
Back across the moor past the Whinny Stones. Dark.

Too knackered from placement to do owt else.

Sunday Feb 10

orienteering 1:16:00 [3]
Tech training at Cowpe. Gorgeous mineworkings cover most of the area, although the map isnt quite up to the standard of the sexiest area in the world ever. Still a decent place for some training, hit most things bob on but was just taking it physically easy cos of yesterday. Nice weather, makes me believe in global warming, what with snow last weekend and summer today.

Saturday Feb 9

running 10:00 [3]
Warm up
running 1:18:00 [5]
Wadsworth half trog. The 4 leading guys shot off the front straight away and i settled into a speed just behind the chasing pack. I took a slightly straighter line (sneakily using the O map) through the tussocks/bogs between checkpoints 2-3-4 which allowed me to gain some ground on them. I eventually overtook 1 of them when his shoe disintergrated and another just before the final descent where i threw caution to the wind and almost caught the fella in front of him but he was a bit quicker up the final hill and remained about 20 ish secs ahead. Finished 7th but waaay behind 1st who did it in 70. This was so much more fun than last weekend.
running 29:00 [3]
Had a long warm down to make it into a kinda long run.

Friday Feb 8

running 40:00 [3]
Bit of a leg loosner up the side of the valley then descended down via some paths to the valley bottom and home back through the old town. Felt reet sleepy.

Thursday Feb 7

running 44:00 [2]
Warm up faffy search for a suitable venue for some reps. Every chav in Calderdale seemed to be driving the streets tonight. Warm down after.
running 26:00 [5]
approx 50secs x approx 50secs x 15. Found a suitable field and did some short steep hill reps. Prob a bit short for this time of year but it'll keep me ticking over between races. Felt strong and pushed hard, proper gutted myself on the last 3.

Gentle recovery run on Midgely moor.

Tuesday Feb 5

running 1:16:00 [3]
Reccied the route of the Wadsworth Half Trog plus a bit more at the end. Good thing i took the Castle Carr O map cos the ordnance survey map is quite frankly pants and depicts huge tracks which dont exist on the ground. Think the 1st 15mins is going to be the usual pain filled lung bursting effort on proper paths before the terrain turns alot rougher and wetter. About 1/3 is off the course is through man eating tussocks. With the last 1/4 being a confusing downhill salom of footpaths with a steep final climb.
running 29:00 [4]
Tempo ran from checkpoint 3-5. Legs felt alot better than yesterday and ignoring the pain in my heel seemed to work.

Monday Feb 4

running 1:01:00 [3]
Had a lecture up at Headingly campus so got off the train in the centre, hid under a bridge on the canal and like superman whipped off my clothes to reveal running gear. Steady run up the canal, through Armley Park, Gotts Park, Bramley Falls Woods, then through to Becketts Park. Had to carry a Kimm sack which made it quite hard work, was like wearing a fat suit.

Sunday Feb 3

running 20:00 [3]
Warm up/down
running 58:00 [5]
Pennine Bridleway relay Leg 1. Similar experience to last year in that i was paired with a faster runner and just had to grit my teeth, suck up the pain and hang on for dear life. We lost contact with the leading teams but could still see them till near the finish (apart from Horwich who i think had pulled clear). The last mile long climb from Holme Chapel was brutal. Did the same time as last year to within 10secs so a bit disappointing we didnt crack that but last year id been at the lakes training camp 3 weeks prior so was reaping the benefits of that. Havent seen any resuts but we were 6th on 1st leg and the rest of the team pulled up to 3rd overall so won a prize, yey.

Saturday Feb 2

Free weights-core stability 30:00 [2]
Some weights stuff. Was going to do some tech training but woke up to find a winter wonderland outside so spent most of the daylight hours sliding down steep hillsides on my backside and running back up. Could put it in as training as a.) it required a change of clothes/shoes b.) i got sweaty c.) it was knackering. Nah...

Friday Feb 1

running 10:00 [3]
Warm up
running 15:00 [5]
60x30x10. 1st down the canal tow path then decided it was too wet and went down the bike path, then decided there were too many people on that so went up Danger road, which also meant i got some hills in. Legs felt good and full of energy. Marvellous.
running 35:00 [3]
Changed my road shoes for some trail shoes and did a loop out the back, usual route then left through the wood along the Danger path, which lived up to its name when i nearly slipped off the edge, canal and home. Some snow in the air and on the higher ground but nothing major, hope it properly snows tonight so can get some sledging action over weekend.
