Wednesday Apr 30

Circuits 35:00 [2]
After work banter in the gym. Tried out some weights on the quad bench but didnt like them.
running 1:01:00 [3]
Running post circuits. Another naff route from Airedale, running across soggy fields trying to find none existent footpaths. Ended up grinding out some miles on the roads aorund Silsden instead.

Tuesday Apr 29

running 32:00 [3]
Warm up, jog between relay legs and warm down.
running 25:00 [5]
Bunny relay leg 1+3. Was sluggish on the first leg but got a shot of adrenaline on the last leg as was trying to catch the 2 teams in front. Sadly they were a bit too quick but we kept our 5th (?) place and got some chocolate as a reward. Kept the egg baton intact despite sliding down the finish chute on my arse at end of 1st leg, much to the amusement of the waiting runners.

Monday Apr 28

running 36:00 [3]
Wadsworth Moor. Pleasant. Just missed the rain.

Sunday Apr 27

running 15:00 [3]
Warm up/down
orienteering 1:22:00 [5]
Bigland Badge event. Hit the first one well and also spiked no.2 but then got confused, chose to misread my control codes and think it wasnt mine. 3mins later i appeared back at a rather familar looking control, swore, punched it and ran off. Was going well until missing at the end of a long leg and faffing about within 10metres of the knoll but on 1 line of crags too far down. 1.30min lost. Caught Andy L at no.15 who had got past me for 2mins during my brain failure moment at no.2. Led him to the next one but figured i may as well try and get away from him over the last part of the course so took different routes which turned out to be just slower so lost more time to him. Was worth a try. Mostly very good, cant believe i misread codes at no.2, ive never done that before, what a numpty.

Saturday Apr 26

running 1:07:00 [2]
Midgley Moor via the canal. A proper summers day and some nice company. All in all rather marvellous.

Friday Apr 25

running 29:00 [3]
Run on Penistone Hill/Haworth moor. Rained a bit.
Free weights-core stability 25:00 [2]

Thursday Apr 24

running 43:00 [3]
Warm up around Penistone Hill and a warm down to the Bronte waterfalls and back.
running 22:00 [4]
Foxdals 60x30x15. It was another cracking evening but my legs were filled with sand and struggled to move at all. Gave it as much welly as i could but too much time on feet today methinks. Why do the colours on my log keep randomly changing? Very odd.

Wednesday Apr 23

Circuits 35:00 [2]
Group circuit session after work with the Physio team at Airedale. Did it more for team bonding and general banter then in the expectation it would be a decent session but there were loads of plyometric exercises and i sweated lots.
running 58:00 [2]
Run after circuits from Airedale onto Steeton Moor (which is not really a moor). Too many stop-starts as was trying to map read a route around but the footpaths werent clear on the ground and i prob did some trespassing. Wont bother with the route again but it was worth a try.

Tuesday Apr 22

running 45:00 [3]
Warm up around the course and gentle warm down whilst having some chat.
running 17:00 [5]
Bunny run at Penistone Hill near Howarth on a lovely warm summery type evening. A lot of fun. Ran bloody hard and was nearly sick afterwards. Felt really good on the hills and not so bad on the flat. Got a free creme egg when entering and won a full sized maltesers easter egg so probably made a profit as it was only £2 to enter. Bonus.

knackered from work.

Sunday Apr 20

running 1:03:00 [3]
Steady run up the Nicky Nook valley up onto Harrisend fell and back the same way apart from a foray into the woods down a new path. Legs understandably a little heavy but mostly ok.

Saturday Apr 19

running 10:00 [3]
Warm up. Legs were feeling good, which is only about the 2nd time this year that has happened, no exaggeration.
running 1:50:00 [5]
Anniversary Waltz fell race. Just fckin awesome. Brilliant course with lots of ridiculously steep climbs (the 1st bit of climb up Robinson was like a wall, a team of sherpas wouldnt have looked out of place) runnable climbs and mental descents. Set off quite steady as didnt have a clue about the route, the plan was to follow everyone else. Reached the summits of Robinson, Hindscarth and Dale Head without too much bother. Minced a bit on the descent from Dale Head (quads were feeling it a bit) trying not to go arse over tit and break something. Just past the tarn the mysterious man known only as 'the mullet' came past me on a better line and i ran with him until deciding that someone with that much hair couldnt possibly know where he was going and i went further right. This proved a mistake as along the long ridge run for home i took a few dodgy routes and ending up losing maybe 90 secs due to this. Awesome views for the whole race, no snow on top and i almost got blown off Cat Bells from the wind. So much fun it was untrue, screw the British, this is where its at.

Friday Apr 18

running 32:00 [3]
Flat run from my parents house. All on roads except the canal bit. Went up Joe lane for a change and some extra distance. Spent a long time weighing up the pros and cons but decided i havent got the time to travel 18 hours in 2 days for 2.30hrs of orienteering. Even if it is the 'greatest BEOC in history' or whatever. Not with 10weeks of placement hell starting on monday. Priorities and all that malarky.
Free weights-core stability 23:00 [2]
Less time, more weight.

Thursday Apr 17

running 39:00 [3]
Warm up to the start of the fell race route and warm down from the quarries on the other side of the moor. Came back along the danger path and then up my favourite path just for a treat and some extra climb.
running 22:00 [4]
60 x 30 x 15 Foxdals on the moor. Aiming to hit a hr max of 165 on each interval. Felt unfit and slow rather than lethargic and sleepy, which i count as a big improvement over recent form.

Wednesday Apr 16

running 33:00 [3]
Through Luddenden, up to Midgley Moor the usual way, along the Calderdale Way for a bit then through the quarries and down through the steep wood and back along the canal past the Highland cows.

Sunday Apr 13

running 40:00 [3]
Ran to the start (10mins) then ran back from the finish back through the wood and across the fell. Helped an old woman who didnt know where she was and paused to look at the stunning views across the south lakes and the bay.
orienteering 1:08:00 [5]
Hampsfell badge event. Pretty clean except i overshot no.1 because id mentally switched off. Lost prob just over a minute. Navigated well after that and kept up the aggression even in the woods earning myself a whack on the knee, chin and forehead for my troubles, but thats what Hampsfell is like. Legs were moving better than have done recently. Overall v enjoyable.

Saturday Apr 12

orienteering 51:00 [3]
BOF training at Black Beck. Lovely liitle Lakeland area. Did a course that took in all the controls plus some more then did a bit of map memory stuff. Legs tired towards the end and nearly fell asleep afterwards! Tommorrow is for pure enjoyment (although all the snow on the hills is looking tempting, might sack it off and go sledging).

Wednesday Apr 9

running 15:00 [3]
Run to the station in the morning at stupid o clock. Didnt see any chavs to abuse, tree cuttings to dump over any fences or anything else to incite a Nails like rage within me.
C • Thats good 1
running 1:05:00 [3]
Run back from station, swift change of shoes and out the door for a similar route to last night. Legs feeling dead from too much time on feet today. Saw Jonny Kendall in uni today, im bloody well having some points for that even though i wasnt running and hes not Sheffield based. Also, found out the British is using gaymit punching, im seriously considering not going, mostly for other reasons but that may be a contributing factor.

Tuesday Apr 8

running 58:00 [2]
No Bunny Run for me tonight after deciding to drive into Leeds on the same day theres a 20mile que on the M62. Went for a potter up the valley instead, including my new favourite path. Its steep but runnable with fantastic views and comes out a converted farmhouse that id buy if i was a millionaire. But sadly im not.

Monday Apr 7

running 28:00 [2]
Recovery down the canal to Sowerby Bridge and back. Timed it perfectly to hit the only 30mins of rain in the whole day. Went past a group of ASBO kids on the tow path and a bunch of emo kids who were sailing a barge down the canal. They were carefully trying to look miserable despite clearly having fun.

Sunday Apr 6

running 20:00 [3]
General warming up malarky.
orienteering 14:00 [5]
Sprint qualifier. Should have qualified really but its my own stupid fault. Ran cleanly through 1st 8 then didnt check compass when exiting the wood and chose to follow the massive elephant track through the snow resulting in a 90 degree error and about 40secs time loss. And that was my chance of qualifying gone, simple as that. Rest was fine.
orienteering 15:00 [4]
Sprint B final. Just went out and enjoyed the course and running on a decent map. Didnt really push hard enough but only 1x10 second hesitation of time loss. Glad i got through this weekends emit lottery. On at least 3 occasions today my card didnt register and i had to go back and repunch, wasting valuable seconds. Maybe its because im unused to using it, or maybe its because its such a rubbish system.

Saturday Apr 5

running 20:00 [3]
Warm up/down.
orienteering 42:00 [5]
British Middle champs. Clean through the 1st 2 then bimbled around at 3 for 60secs trying to find the pit from the 2 bushes i was using as attackpoint. Pits generally annoy me and this one certainly did. 15 secs lost at 13 being too far right. After Craney went past me (which happened in about 2 controls) i got scrappy and hesitant through 17, 18, 19 and wasted time, rest was ok. Legs felt worringly fatigued towards the end but on reflection, cutting down on the mistakes would have left me alot higher and with a decent result. Maybe the rough terrain brings everyone closer together in terms of running speed. Enjoyed most of the course.

Midgley moor, Milk Churn Joan, through the woods, down the canal past the highland cows. Dont think im ever going to get any points for spotting any Sheffield based orienteers. Or any orienteers for that matter.
running 11:00 [2]
Strides and drills.

Some turbo trainer action whilst listening to radio 2 and reading work. 3 things at once = ultra efficient.
running 20:00 [3]
Warm up/down.
running 36:00 [5]
Liver Hill fell race. Legs felt springy warming up. Let the Rossendale youngsters sprint off at the start and when they filled up with lactic acid after the 1st uphill mile i got past them. The moor was proper waterlogged and it was difficult to judge how deep the bogs were so erred on the side of caution for most of them so as to not crock myself. Turned at the top in 6th place but with the same guy i just beat on sat breathing down my neck. Started my sprint with a mile to go and pushed through the pain to finish about 5metres clear of him. Turns out hes a Man Utd fan so it was only right i beat him.
