Wednesday Oct 31

orienteering 53:00 [3]
Im a believer that you should try new things in your training, so tonight i tried Vampire-O. Was having a good run until i got too complacent after 30mins and a small innocent looking child at a control turned out to be a vampire, so i lost all my points and became a vampire myself. So i switched my headtorch off and crept through the woods and jumped out on some unsuspecting victims thus turning them into the undead and freeing myself. I then scampered around and collected some more points. Unfortunately i also got vamped about 10metres from the finish so lost all points again. It was so fun ive decided im only orienteering in future when it involves vampires and tasty cake afterwards.

Tuesday Oct 30

running 24:00 [3]
Running to and from Becketts, some drills and strides pre and post.
running 35:00 [5]
Fartlek with Leeds Met. Only 3 other people there tonight, 3 very fast people. So i spent most of the time staring at the back of them. The crazy fast girl dropped out after half way as she wasnt feeling good (just when i thought id suddenly become amazingly fast as i was running quicker than her). Felt good till the end when my legs rebelled and lost all speed.

Some double glazing salesman asked me if my mum or dad was in today when i answered the door. I was wearing a hoodie but didnt think i looked that young, i'll take it as a compliment.
C • You should be so lucky 3

Sunday Oct 28

running 2:12:00 [3]
Long run in the Yorkshire Wolds. Started off steady and was enjoying myself until about 80mins when i started feeling rough as f*ck. Realised it was still quite a long way home so i gritted my teeth and ground it out till the end was in sight. Felt a lot better after i'd stopped and had loads of food. Thank goodness its an easy week next.

Saturday Oct 27

running 1:21:00 [3]
Ilkley Moor. Around lots of the moor. Cloud down pretty low and no company but the sheep and grouse, nice though.

Friday Oct 26

running 1:05:00 [3]
Freestylee run from Luddendenfoot around some footpaths over towards Mytholmroyd/Stoodley Pike. Some fantastically steep hills and endless combinations of footpaths to try out. Felt pretty good.

Thursday Oct 25

cycling 1:04:00 [2]
Fast paced cycle out to Danefield and around some of the forest, its looking sweet at the moment.
C • Yeah Danefield is great exc... 6
running 34:00 [3]
Warm up+down
running 15:00 [2]
Strides and drills
running 32:00 [5]
Was quite a struggle to make it out the door, it was 7 p.m. dark, cold and Hollyoaks was on. However i put some lycra on to inspire myself and bashed out a pyramid of 1min, 2min, 3min, 4min, 4min, 3min, 2min, 1min with half the recovery of the effort time. Started feeling tired on the second half of the pyramid and felt heavier and heavier towards the end. Need to have a think about what sort of interval programme i need to do, longish ones at the mo in some sort of pyramid form seems good to keep me interested.

Wednesday Oct 24

running 1:31:00 [3]
Same route as last week. Felt pretty good. As i crossed Becketts i witnessed a bizarre situation involving rugby players, bending over, laughter and rubber gloves. I didnt hang around to see exactly what humiliating ritual they were enacting.

Tuesday Oct 23

running 24:00 [3]
Warming up running to and around Becketts.
running 35:00 [5]
Niall and myself hijacked a Leeds Met session which was a fartlek session where i ran fast when someone blew a whistle and slow when they next blew it, nice and simple. Good fast group including a girl who was the fastest female ive ever seen in real life, she was crazy fast (miles ahead of nearly all the lads). Apparently shes a national standard runner, which makes me feel marginally better. Felt like i was running well but again my heart rate was not quite at the heights i would expect, i guess it might be the cold but i dont particulary care cos i felt good.
running 15:00 [3]
Run home including some sneaky drills and things cos i didnt have time to do them before.

A fairly boring day training wise.

Sunday Oct 21

running 10:00 [3]
Warm up
orienteering 1:11:00 [4]
Badge event at Stoodley Pike. Had a pretty clean run, missed slightly in the circle on a couple but mostly very clean. What was most pleasing was that my bearings were working well. Got a good rhythm going with the running but bizarrely noticed afterwards that my heart rate was about 15 bpm below what i normally think of as racing pace. Was well planned with long legs leading into short technical sections.
running 44:00 [3]
Carried on running from the finish, put on a lifa, had a gel and ran up to Stoodley Pike monument and around some more terrain to make it into a long run.

Saturday Oct 20

running 25:00 [3]
Warming up with the juniors plus i made them do some running drills. Plus some other running.
running 15:00 [5]
Did the bleep test as part of the NWJS fitness testing day. Got to level 14.9 which is probably fairly rubbish but then i am fairly rubbish at sprinting, turning then sprinting again. I was running at race pace at the end so could have kept it up for another 60+mins but my legs couldnt cope with all the decelerating-accelerting malarky. Need to get some more fast twitch fibres from somewhere. Ebay perhaps.
running 1:02:00 [3]
Steady run on Nicky Nook, gorgeous autumnal day. Lots of climb.
Free weights-core stability 30:00 [2]
Whilst watching the rugby. Bastard tv referees.

Friday Oct 19

running 1:06:00 [2]
Some random route on some moor which i cant remember the name of (Its wherever the FRA relays were last year). Ran pretty easy until about 15mins from the end when i realised i was going to get in trouble for being late back so i upped the tempo. Was still 6 mins late, but didnt get in trouble : )

Thursday Oct 18

running 1:06:00 [3]
Had planned on going to the session tonight but id been up feeling sick with exam nerves at 6am and was told i looked really tired. Plus, i remembered how rubbish i usually feel after exams so it seemed wise just to go for a steady run. Unfortunately it had got dark by this point (winter is so inconvenient) so i puntered around some badly lit streets and non lit fields and woodland. I hate giping out of sessions and think these steady type sessions are a bit pointless so i didnt put much effort in. oops.

Wednesday Oct 17

running 1:30:00 [3]
Mid week mid length run. Quite like this routine ive got into (famous last words). Niall was working from home so i had some company but it also meant i had to work a bit harder then my legs would have liked after last night. Tootled off across Becketts (for a change) and then down Meanwood-Adelwoods to the road near Eccup then back down the other side of the vally. Bit nippy out.

Tuesday Oct 16

running 35:00 [3]
Running to and from Becketts in the dark (went a very long way around) plus a bit of recovery at the end.
running 14:00 [2]
Strides and drills pre and post
running 27:00 [5]
3mins on, 1.30 off x 6. Felt pretty good but faded a bit towards the end when i could have done with some company to keep me going. Interestingly the leeds met middle distance group were just finishing a fartlek session, might try and get in on some of that action another time. Even more interestingly there was a couple who were canoodling against the goal posts of one of the football pitches i was running around. They only seemed to be having a hug but they were at it for the entire session. Weirdoes.

Monday Oct 15

cycling 1:01:00 [2]
Hilly and fast. Broke up a boring day of revision.

Sunday Oct 14

running 2:00:00 [3]
Im so glad SROC didnt qualify for the CSC. Instead i went for a nice easy run around Ilkley Moor (again). Legs were really tight at the start, especially my hamstrings. Stopped to stretch them out and felt better and better as time went on. Felt especially strong on the hills. Its weird but sometimes i do feel better for a good hard race.

Saturday Oct 13

running 25:00 [2]
Warming up and down. Didnt do any drills or stride because i thought i looked silly enough in my tights without making it any worse.
running 1:01:00 [5]
Nav leg of the FRAs. We had a clean run and were evenly matched so we pushed each other hard all the way around. Quentin got a few metres on me going down the last crazy descent but i reeled him in over the last field. Visibility was low and a bit of local knowledge came into play but not much. Felt pretty good and we achieved our aim of getting in the top 10. Good to see so many orienteers packing it in near the sharp end of the results.

Thursday Oct 11

running 29:00 [3]
Running to and from Becketts. It was very dark in the woods. Decided against the uni session as they were doing it on roads.
running 15:00 [2]
Drills and strides pre and post. Felt like a right twat doing them by myself.
C • Stick with it 2
running 15:00 [5]
Half an intervals session again. 1min on, 30secs off (short and sharp before the weekend, i'll do some longer ones soon). The footballers on the astroturf always seemed to be shouting about having a man on their back, which i found amusing.

Wednesday Oct 10

Free weights-core stability 30:00 [2]
running 40:00 [3]
Steady recovery type run around Becketts. Saw some topless footballers, which is odd considering its October.

Tuesday Oct 9

running 39:00 [3]
Running to and from the session. Wanted to wear lycra but thought people would laugh at me so made do with some cut offs (probably only slightly less laughable).
running 27:00 [2]
Strides and drills pre and post. Plus some cruising around whilst other people did the whole session.
running 12:00 [5]
Fartlek session with the efforts about 45 secs ish (at a guess). Was concentrating on staying more upright and generating more power by optimising my hip flexor movement blah blah. Felt really good and wanted to do the whole session but only did half as on an easy week (yay). Am kinda wondering if we should be doing longer reps but the coach defo knows what hes doing and its my basic speed that needs improving anyway so these are ok.

Sunday Oct 7

running 2:03:00 [3]
Long run on Ilkley moor. What a difference a day makes, had a brilliant nights sleep and woke up feeling so much better than yesterday when i was just shattered. Had no problems knocking out a couple of hours on my favourite moor (all in terrain as well, none of this poncy path running). Continuing with the wildlife theme i saw a squirrel scampering down a path about 2miles from the nearest forest/tree. Maybe he was on holiday. Also, the sheep seemed monumently unintimidated by my presence today and wouldnt get out of the way. I think they sensed im from Lancashire and therefore a lot less likely to violate their liberties than the usual Yorkshire folk they see up there.

Saturday Oct 6

running 1:18:00 [3]
Terrain running on Ilkley moor. Tripped up and lay looking at the sky for a bit cos i was feeling really quite lethargic but dont mind as its an easy week next, woohoo etc.

Friday Oct 5

running 1:02:00 [3]
Usual steady friday run accompanied by the usual friday tiredness. Went down Adel woods again but think i might try and devise some sort of route that crosses the valley numerous times to get some more climb in.
Free weights-core stability 50:00 [2]

Thursday Oct 4

running 40:00 [1]
Gentle amble down the canal and through Bramley Falls wood. I dont plan on running twice a day but my occasional training partner needed to go running so i manfully stepped up to the task. We performed a suicidal leap across a canal sluice gate (it wasnt my idea), failure would have been v painful.

C • freestyle.... 2
running 33:00 [3]
Running to and from Boddington
running 16:00 [2]
Strides and drills pre and post session
running 28:00 [5]
Hill session. Two hills were used, one being about 35-40secs in length and one being 30secs (ish i didnt time them). I concentrated on accelerating quickly off the start and maintaining it, which i managed. We split into 2 groups and did 4 reps on each hill, twice (16 in total). In my group i had the guy who was 5th in the world mountain running trophy this year, so he can run a bit (we were wearing identical wife beaters, i think he copied me). I was also told i lean foward too much whilst running uphill, Im very open to advice about running style/form as ive been running uneducated for a few years now. However, i am slightly sceptical to the applicability to borienteering as what happens to your style when you race somewhere that isnt a perfectly even bit of ground eg the Trossachs?

Wednesday Oct 3

running 1:30:00 [2]
Steady along the 7-arches route including a lap around the abbey at the end. Nothing interesting happpened. Rained a bit.
Free weights-core stability 30:00 [2]

Tuesday Oct 2

running 18:00 [3]
Running across to Boddington. I was late.
running 11:00 [2]
Strides and Drills (of which i missed half cos i was late).
running 27:00 [5]
Intervals with Leeds x-country club. 60 on 60 off, 45 on 45 off, 30 on 30 off. 6 sets of them. Felt tired when running there but perked up when doing drills and strides (maybe there is a point to them) and was running strongly during the session. Some guy tripped over his laces and stacked it big style. I got abuse from the coach for 'looking too relaxed' (i certainly didnt feel relaxed). Was a couple of decentish hills on the area we were training over. The lead group went off at a ridiculous pace but slowed over the last 3 sets so i caught them back up.
running 22:00 [2]
Drills/Strides/run back home. Was pitch black when doing warm down.
