Ran the annual mass-start race Tøffen just outside Stavern. Super cool coastal terrain mixed with some good long legs. Quick start where I fell back in the pack with Mathias a bit. We climb the ladder and connected with the leaders at the 6th control. Formed a 6 person lead group that pulled away from the rest. Thought we had lost Mathias for sure, but he came storming through the forest down towards and caugth us at 7. Karl and Hans Petter were leading most of the time for the first half. I pushed the pace a bit towards 11 and got a few seconds on the rest coming into 11. Lost the lead to 13, but spotted 14 first so got back in the lead then.
The group was still together to #18, but on the long leg to #19 I aimed straight for the bend in the road across the fields, whereas the others ended up a fair bit further right and I got a 10-15s gap down to the rest. Kept the small gap through to #22, but the pack was catching me, and Vegard and Christian and I were punching together at 24. It seemed like I was being left in the dust coming down the road towards the last control, but with some sheer luck both guys ahead of me made mistakes coming into the last control, and I was able to just sneak ahead of Vegard at the last punch.
Super happy with this race since the field was quite strong (although no Nordberg this time) and since I was able to navigate a fair bit on my own. Also happy that Mathias made it through this race at the back of the lead pack.
