Event: Harvester Trophy Weekend

Event: JOK Chasing Sprint

Orienteering race (JOK Sprint Prologue) 24:07 [5]*** 4.6 km (5:15 / km) +170m 4:26 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: Salomon Speedcross
Stomach felt a lot better than it had done all week, but still wasn't 100%. Set off hard and messed up 1st control after not really planning route :( Got into the map after that, with just a few very slight wobbles. A bit of a mistake at #9 after not reading the detail in the circle where Craney caught me up. Tried keeping up with him from there to the finish, just about stayed in touch whilst trying to read the map. Stomach was ok throughout. Time loss = 0.40
Orienteering race (JOK Sprint Chase) 23:11 [5]*** 4 km (5:48 / km) +115m 5:04 / km
spiked:11/15c shoes: Salomon Speedcross
Started in 6th place on the Chase, with Nick B 1 sec in front, and Ant and Shep just behind so i knew we would be going round in a pack. Hadn't really geared myself up for this with the pre-race banter in the start area. Went past Nick on the way to #1 and led into #2 where we caught Mike up as well. Messed up #3 by overshooting almost got as far as the path and the pack had got away from me. luckily for me they all messed up the next control and i'd just sprinted after them with no real plan so had no idea where i was when everyone had stopped to faff. Same on #6 as just went with the pack not wanting to lose them and went all the way round the fields which definitely lost us time. Was really struggling to keep up as my chest started to feel really tight, and did all i could to stay in touch around the last loop after the spectator control but i was dying on my ass, so didn't even try and stay with them when we got near the end as i was hurting too much. Good practice of head-to-head racing though. Time loss = 1.20
Orienteering warm up/down 40:00 [2] 6 km (6:40 / km)

Fell running race (Jack Bloor fell race) 42:01 [5] 5.5 mi (7:38 / mi) +351m 3:58 / km
shoes: Salomon Speedcross
Love doing this race, so despite the fact that i was ill decided to give it a go after warming-up and having no adverse reaction. Plus i wanted to try out my different route to the last CP. Went off hard just behind Graham and settled into a rhythm just behind the lead group. Chris and Andy gradually pulled away so by the top of the 1st climb they had a quite a lead, with Graham and Tom together, then me and Matt battling it out. It stayed like this till we got to Cowper's Cross where the field split. I stayed the way i knew and pulled time out of the people in front of me. Greg (course record-holder) went with me so was pretty certain i got the right route. Stomach really started to hurt along the top to the cairn, but the quickest way back was pretty much doing the race route, so just ran through it. Got to the penultimate CP then turned back on myself to try my new route out. Had i been feeling good it would have definitely been quicker, but i wasn't so i didn't gain anything. What was good was that i came out in exactly the same place i'd been in. Got to the last CP in 8th, and decided that i needed to finish as soon as possible to let my stomach recover so sprinted past the 3 guys in my sights with some manic descending. Almost caught Greg as well.
Probably shouldn't have run considering the state i was in, but i'm stupid, what can i say...

Got dodgy stomach, resting another day.

Sunday May 11

Running 28:30 [3] 6.5 km (4:23 / km) +100m 4:04 / km
shoes: Brooks Infiniti
Was such a nice day i didn't feel like sitting inside all day, even though i had taken the day off work due to illness. Did a topless lap of Becketts with Niall, taking in the rather pleasant sunbathers. Quite a bit faster than i normally run this route with Mick but still felt alright, though stomach wasn't agreeing completely. Was gonna go for a ride later, but probably best to let illness settle down as racing Tuesday and Wednesday.
C • topless 1
C • Giro 3
