As we were over in Halifax nipped out for a 'quick' dash up Trooper Lane - one of the toughest hills in the country (ave 17% for 1/2 mile, half of which is on cobbles). Have been up it once before, so was merely aiming to better that time. Had forgotten how steep the lower parts were, and wasn't really prepared for the stupidly steep (~40%) first corner. Was already chewing my handlebars by the time I hit the cobbles, and just tried to grind out a steady rhythm, although cadence was about as low as I've seen it. Decided it would be better to remain seated if possible, and just avoided temptation to stamp on the pedals. Had nothing left for a 'sprint' finish, but happy enough to take 36secs off my best.

A bit of rain yesterday made some of trails a bit wet, so glad I'd headed up to the bike trails at Norwood as they stay well drained all year round. Did 9 laps of the upper red loop at a reasonable pace, then headed over to Timble before heading home.

After a late finish at work didn't have time to get this in before driving to work, so did as a commute via Kirkstall. 4x5mins over-geared, lower back a bit sore when pushing it in these high gears, need to start doing some core stability.
