Mountain biking race (Crank It Racing Rd 1) 2:15:27 32.04 km (14.2 kph) +1066m shoes: Cannondale Scalpel
Not a great start getting a puncture on warm-up laps, but realised fairly early on this kind of course is not my forte. Even so, gave it a good crack, getting a reasonable start and catching back up to Mark RIchmond by the end of the first uphill. Was gradually moving through, and pulled up to 8th place when I noticed the screw for my saddle had come loose. Stopped to fix, but went again, losing over 3mins on that lap. Stopped a 2nd time to try and repair, but came loose not long after so resigned myself to riding without a working saddle. Lost a bit of motivation after that, but was still posting some reasonable lap times and catching back up to a few of those who'd come past earlier. Came down hard on my L.elbow on the steep rocky climb, bruised up quite nicely in the evening. Glad to have done the race as I said at the start of the year I needed to do more XC racing to push myself harder on more technical terrain - today was definitely one to learn from.
Easy spin over to Shadwell and Rigton, took in SOTW again, got the KOM, wheels definitely need some work fixing hubs and bearings, then tyre blew coming down into East Keswick, replacement tube didn't fare any better, got the emergency team to do a pick-up.
Club session at the Brownlee track, warm up, 20mins chaingang, 15min paceline, 20 mins of 2 laps easy, 1 lap flat out. Riding better than last week, cornering a bit better though still not able to hold the wheel of the fast guys, flat out efforts was able to get past everyone on the straight but couldn't hold off into the finish line.
Chaingang ave 269w / max 1179w
Paceline ave 293w / max 902w
Laps ave 242w / max 1192w
Another trip up to Hamsterley Forest, this time got full lap in the daylight. Found a couple of extra trails I'd not been on before near the downhill park. Faster times through the jumps on the top section.
