| So, so awesome to be at Tiomila. I ran the last leg, no splits! Started out alone then caught a huge pack somehow and led them to number one. It was very scary!! Then drifted off the pack (they were running way faster than I was comfortable with and I got into major oxygen debt and did dumb things) and did the last 3 controls alone. Heaps of pain and suffering. Another huge learning experiance for me!
It was such a beautiful day, and great to just be able to watch the men race all night with GPS tracking and camera controls. Leksand's guys were doing really well, in the lead pack until the last leg where we they dropped from 5th to 16th. | ||

| Training near Rättvik. Ran memory course and then a normal one. Nice open forest for running in, with some interesting contour detail. Didnt run too hard and was orienteering really well, concentration was good. Funny how orienteering goes so much better for me when Im training. I think I have to find the right state of mind for when I race. I know I'm fit enough, and I know I can orienteer, just got to work out how to do it on the day. | ||

| Went for a run on an old course from home. Also did some compass work up on top in some denser trees, this seems to be what Im really struggling with at the moment. Beautiful day for a run, cant believe it was so cold here 2 weeks a go. | ||

| Boy have I learnt a lot this weekend. Another shit race, forgot to RTFM!!! once you I got lost man was I in trouble. Lost 10min on one control, only managed to relocate when I luckily stumbled accross my next one. Erg. Happend form not making a definate route choice and having no plan .Definately no links to splits this week!!! Im actually glad that Goteborg has hills.
Champinons have good days and days when they learn something..right. | ||

It was so crazy at the start and i lost all the really good women straight away, ended up in a pack that was a little bit slower than me so not that useful and I did a lot of the navigating. All good practice for Tiomilla in two weeks though! So cold today, mud plus rain plus snow plus standing around waiting equals I think I need a hug.... | ||

| First real race in Sweden. Was pretty nervous at start but all of the good juniors were at another race further south so I managed to win! Pretty average run though was zig zaging all over the place and couldn't read the rock properly at all. Going to have to get someone to explain it to me. Such interesting terrain! I love orienteering here. | ||

| Training on Orsand. Pretty fun area with a few rocks etc. Also would have been pretty fast running except for the fresh snow up to mid calf everywhere! So, was hard work, fallen trees really get you when covered in snow. Otherwise still poor orienteering, going to focus on getting my exit direction right and sticking on a good bearing. Got introduced to marshes today aswell, nice and icy cool.

| Traning with club. In lots of fresh snow, its been snowing on and off here for the last two days. First about 10 15sec intervals up the hill, with 15sec recovery. Then 8 short courses starting and finishing at the top of the hill, tough work in the snow! Was orienteering like a bit of a retard, I blame the compass (a slow thumb one now, but its hard to get used to the needle being a bit slower). will hopefully buy a new one this weekend. Back to the clubhouse with very cold feet. | ||

| Indoor training, at the local gym, with the rowing, skiing and orienteers. Really good strength training. Felt absolutely fantastic to be running up and down the gym in shorts and t-shirt even after only 4 days here in tights and jacket. | ||

Very pretty little place but not the best map really Lots of tracks so not hard. but there was some good bits off rocky slope just like aus but way harder cos of the low vis. Spiked all but one control, which I drifted way off course on, didn't have a plan before I started the leg. Also got chased by a big dog, it was scary running through the bush with him barking behind me....getting closer...and closer....until I lost him with my agile direction changes through dense jungle and cliffs and sheer cunning. | ||

| Morning race near Borlänge. Heaps and heaps of tracks on the map, so it was pretty easy terrain. I struggled trying to use an old base plate compass and got really disorientated a few times. Havn't seen any results yet but I have a feeling I got wasted buy all the old guys. | ||

| First club training. We did a small relay for a warm up which involved matching the word (in swedish!) for a feature to the map symbol after a short, very muddy hill sprint. I had a few problems. Then 5 small courses run with a partner going in the opposite direction. This was great. Trying to run fast through the terrain. I didn't go too badly but struggled physically. Got to get much stronger to master this sort of orienteering. core and leg strength. | ||
