Note
(injured)
Got my foot checked out at the hospital last night: nothing broken/fractured so its just ligament damage. Still, no running training for a couple of weeks is not a good thing.

Saturday May 3

Orienteering race (Eliteserien E2) 1:26:12 [4] 12.1 km (7:07 / km)
shoes: Jalas Blacks
Elite series near Ulricehamn. Ran Elite 2 because I don't really have a swedish ranking to qualify for Elite 1. Area was pretty tough, steep areas, scrappy forest, lots of stuff on the ground. Lost a minute or two getting into and then out of the second control because I was just being pushed around by the forest (I was just trying to run to a track but didn't plan my route to it properly). Got caught by the guy who started after me by 3 (he ended up 5th). Then I started orienterring a whole lot better and we caught some more guys, so I ended up in a pack which varied between 3 and 5 guys. Running well, not making mistakes. Then halfway to the 16th control (out of 19) went over on my right ankle quite badly. Lay on the ground for a while before continuing, but couldn't really run properly. Still finished the course (as that was basically the best way back to the finsih area anyway) but lost my pack almost straight away. Lost about 2 and a half minutes to the finish from there. Couldn't walk after finishing.
Ended up 9th, 4.52 down. Without my foot could have been up to 6th, and without running badly out of 2 even better.

In the end it was not a good day for the Malungs boys, as I was the only one to actually finish my course. The others all ran Elite 1 (15km), Thomas didn't have the fitness to make it around, David pulled out because he wasn't meant to do the whole thin because of his achilles, and Erik had some issue with his heart so he stopped.

Friday May 2

Running 58:00 [3] 10 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: NB 903
Nice easy run before tomorrows long race. With Erik and Thomas running on some cross country ski trails near Ulricehamn. Really nice area.
Saw Mattias Niggli putting out flags for Simone too.

Then we found a great greek buffet restaurant for lunch. The swedes have something good going with lunch I think. Then headed to a cafe for pastries.
Today was a good day.

Thursday May 1

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]
shoes: NB 903
Orienteering race (Sprint SM) 13:21 [5] 3.5 km (3:49 / km)
shoes: NB 903
aka Swedish Sprint Champs

Well this was boring, the course was easy with pretty much zero route choice. It was all just run straight on the nice grass, you didn't have to pre-plan anything and could just leave controls in the direction of the line and it was fine. Unfortunately for me my complete lack of proper speed training over the past few weeks meant I just didn't have the speed for this sort of race. Ended up 50 sec down on Wingsted in my heat, which was 9th place and missing out on the final by 2 sec. But as the final also appeared to be pretty much just running as well, I don't think it would have mattered.

Wednesday Apr 30

Running warm up/down 48:00 [3] 8 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: NB 903
Easy run around Mariestad checking it out for Sprint SM tomorrow (swedish sprint champs). Map looks fun and it was good to get an idea of the area - we looked at the finish area, start area as well as some general scouting. Especially as I start first in my heat...
