A stud-tastic run. Parked Ambleside (am-ble-sid-E), and ran every step up Red Screes up Snarker Pike. It aint steep but its a long climb. 40 mins. Pretty pleased with that.
Nice descent to Scandale Pass on grassy slopes, before going direct up Dove Crag where I confirmed to some inquisitive walkers that yes, it was indeed Dove Crag (where did they think it was??). Decided to go look for the Priests Hole with the walkers warnings of "weve never found it in 4 attempts" ringing in my ears. 5 minutes later and Im signing the cave log book. Oh dear.
After that it was a LONG runnable descent back over Dove Crag and down High and Low Pike to High Sweden Bridge and the car. Just beat the rain :)
Results are up: I was 45th in 1:19:32. Interesting to see the guy I overtook on the descent finished 34th nearly 2 minutes ahead of me! I wasnt kidding when I said I lost time - though I think I wouldve struggled to sustain that speed to the end. So I threw away a top 40 finish and beating all the U23s - doh!
9th dark peaker, 7th at Top of The Old Man! Serves me right.

Well, it didn't go according to plan entirely. As Matthew rightly pointed out, I am not the man to follow off the Old Man Of Coniston (although I didnt end up in Seathwaite ;)). Started quick, and worked hard and felt strong on the entire climb of Wetherlam - reached top not far behind Simon Booth and John Deegan. HR strap was slipping down on descent to Swirl Hause but that's no excuse for the lack of spring going up Prison Band. So Al Ward caught me here, so I chased him across and over Brim Fell and threw the strap to Wil on top of Old Man. Confident descent for first half, passed James Kevan and Stephen Bottomley easily, then for no apparent reason I went maverick, stopped following Al and ended up thrashing slowly down a boulder field and watched lines of people overtake me. Massive boo when I passed Edwards at the crossroads (he jacked cause he was mentally tired) which didnt improve when I saw Corny from Borrowdale had got ahead of me in the last mile AGAIN! See Anni Waltz...
Hodges then caught me on the last road section and I didnt have the heart or the legs to fight him so lost another place there. Balls balls balls. What wouldve been a 1.16/17 time turned into a scraping under 1.20. Results out later.
The great Holmesy won again, with yet another descending masterclass. What a guy.

Incapable of waiting until tomorrow, I went for a loosener. Heard first cuckoo of the year, and its not even May. It best not lay eggs in my bloody bed.
What with Coniston on Sat, a lot of hard running planned for May, and feeling so shitty on both runs this week despite the low HRs I decided an extra rest day wouldnt hurt. Oh crap, its begun again!

Took a few new trails tonight, up back hill to Moortop then looping over and down through the trees to the valley floor and up through terrain past the ziplines. Felt pretty guff, no bounce and felt like much harder work than my HR suggested! Blergh, need to shift this feeling by Saturday or Il be eating dust
