Event: Borrowdale

11 AM

Fell Race (Borrowdale) 3:03:14 [4] 16.44 mi (11:09 / mi) +2104m 7:58 / mi
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s Pair 5

Champs race.
Ended up very hot and sunny, and I didnt have any water so suffered quite a lot from Gt Gable onwards.

Steady start, happy enough, no dramas up Bessyboot. Sat in a group with OJ and Baker, 40 seconds down on Jebby, Carl, Morgz, Ben A, Lloyd, Si B and Ricky. Caught them after a better route. Then lost the 40 seconds with a shit line round to Esk Hause. Seemed better on the recce. Annoying. Off the back slightly here and they were ramping the pace up (and I wasnt). Decided to keep it steady to Gable and see what I had. Dropped Baker on the scree descent and caught Morgz and Jebby down the corridor route.

Not feeling great at Styhead, so decided to keep it steady up Gable and try and get set up for later. Oj pulled away, so ran solo to Honister catching a little back on OJ. MASSIVE support here from Lakeland chums and hangers on, also parentals supplying much needed water! Thanks!

Tried to get going up Dale Head but the entire climb and subsequent descent was a pattern of stumbling along and looking backwards rather than trying to catch OJ. Not a strong finish, but glad to hold position when suffering in the sun. 9th place.

Winner Ricky Lightfoot 2.49.20 - impressive running indeed.

More importantly, we took 1st team - first time anyone has beat Borrowdale on their own patch for over 10 years! English Champs is there for the taking IF we get our fast boys out at the next two fast courses. Get involved!

Overall, happy with position if not the time (wanted to break 3 hours) or how I felt. Learnt a few things though, and will try to apply them in future. Felt I didnt try and stick with the front group enough, mostly expecting to pull through later on when I am normally strong, but this never materialised.

Good night int pub watching Mo win the 10km and the band were good too.

Note
(rest day)

Happy enough to take a total day off, reload for Saturday with a maintenance check massage. No real problems, just staying off the hills for a few days now. Psyched for Borrowdale!
