Note

Half tempted to do the Scottish 6 Day after enjoying this weekend so much. I just like racing on good areas in top fields in the sun!

Hopefully the wonderfully named Chi Kin Man will make another appearance on M21 (assuming he doesn't make the Hong Kong team for WOC, where he will receive my undying and extremely vocal support). I live in hope.

Steady yan over Walla in very pleasant weather between shifts mit Ben. Put him on lead and stopped watch as we hit town as it was ridiculously busy and Ben slammed into a guy running as he was too busy watching shadows!

Graythwaite Estate (The Nice bit)

Todd brought us back in 35th, Rookie psoted 31st best time setting me out a bit down on where I'd hoped (How am I supposed to take down Fabian Hertner with that sort of deficit?). Put the hammer down and went hard. The O was much easier and I had got my eye in now so was eating up the positions the whole way round, though number 7 had the wrong code on it meaning I left it alone (despite thinking "why is that not mine? Should be right here" Assumed I had misread the map and lost a minute here checking things. Bit P'ed off at that but got on with it and made up around 11 places overall with a pretty decent run to overhaul WCOC and finish 11th club and 20th inc International teams.

Bigland. One of my favourite areas, and 10 miles later - still is!

Had my watch confiscated in the start pen. Wasn't very happy about it in all honesty, stupid rule. So, bit wound up and binned a minute in the mist at 1, coming in blindly from the right. Got going a bit after that as was pretty easy, until missing on 9 (2 mins). Got it back together and ran ok through the spectator where I caught a Belgian who stuck with me til i went up n over to 22. Finally caught Rich Robinson 2 mins at 23 and he caught me back up at 26 when I was navving to wrong control. Tired now but managed to just about hold it together through the rest but was mentally suffering a bit now! Still full of running, and came home 3rd at the finish and ended up 34th best time on the day, a mere 19 minutes down on Thierry.

Pulled up to 39th overall too form 66th which was nice. Enjoyed that.

So, dusted off the map and compass once again and hit Ulpha Park (Rob Brownes garden) for some flag chasing.
Caught Squashy at 1 and indulged in some seriously wobbly orienteering and flustered decision making for the next 8 controls. Finally, hit 9 smoothly, and Squashy missed. Binned a minute on 11 being a tool before completing the rest of the course without anything major going wrong, just slow in the process and struggling to get any steam up on the running front! Wasn't a massive fan of the area but was areet.

Still, a stacked field and a reasonable result all things considered - 66th out of 150ish

Had a good chat to Jonny Proctor, not seen him for ten years - last time was a night out in Sheffield when he got a taxi back to Huddersfield. Prob highlight of the day.
