Day 6 - Glen Feardar West

Reverse chasing wotsit. I would prefer a true Chasing start myself, a lot of this was just charging around on huge elephant tracks.

Anyway, clean start at 1, but feeling a bit wheezy so not pushing it. Wobble at 2, being put off by the control in the dip before, then hitting 7 on the way into 3. Caught Purko at 4 and re caught him about 3 more times on the course! Misses at 7 and 9 (walked straight past it) were frustrating, but got a good route to 10 (3rd best split) and was moving ok but felt very tired on the slog to 12 (went straight, only spotting the better route to the R when twas too late). Clean through to 15, dropping Purko.

Hit 16 via 20 but I was getting very tired already and missed 17 too low, hitting the boulder to the S, then completely missed 20, way too low, and didn't see the ride until I could see the major fence ahead of me so turned back, recatching Purkis! I had glimpses of my 4 minute man at 17.

The rest was a grind, just tired. Managed to batter the run in though, to make it 3-3 in the FR Sprint Off. Phew. 4 minute man got his 4 minutes back between 17 and the end which was disappointing but kinda summed up my week - potential there but flagging physically which in turn made me sloppy in the nav.

Nice to be back running though, must be careful from here.

Day 5 - Glen Feardar East

Better again today, only one major issue. Small wobbles and not running straight enough on 4, 11, 12, 15 and 20 but mostly within the circle. Issues approaching 17, wasn't confident of my location and when I couldn't see bracken on the hillside, I got worried and was over cautious relocating. Once again, I was right the first time but got confused by the switch from mapping bracken to mapping heather with the exact same symbol - consistency!?

Print was off for most of the 2nd half controls - the crag 18 was on was nowhere near the centre of the circle!

Ended up 16th but the lungs are working better now, and I was running int he top 10 for most of it. Positives!

Day 4 - Creag Chonnich

Took no chances today, took 2 gels and walked every step to the start.

Easy away, but Christ that was some rough ground. Just kept trotting, the O was absurdly easy on 1. Pleasantly surprised to find my lungs were cooperating a little more today so ran some sections where the terrain allowed and posted some solid splits. Until 4, where after showing some git where he was, I slakced off focus and lost where I was, missing it too high - ground was very flat so I guessed I was on the flat area to the E of the control - I wasn't. Careful not to go headless, I was very careful relocating but took time doing this and lost close to 4 minutes I reckon.

Head back on, careful through the next few, took the lower track, above the quarry to 8. Slow but legs and lungs starting to come back to me after this, and only making minor wobbles. Really enjoyed the contrast from 12 - 15 but 16 and 17 were just cruel. Lungs weren't too bad though, so put down some decent splits here to the finisih.

Not brilliant but the one big miss a day is costing me a decent result somewhere.

Had some endorphins for the first time, instead of feeling utterly wrecked so that's progress!!

Day 3 - Birsemore Hill

Well, I felt ok running on the flat to the start but the steep walk to the Elite start had me blowing out me arse. Uh oh.

Major issues at 1. Got to the circle well, then just couldn't see a clear re-entrant or a flag. Decided I must have fucked up and cleared off to relocate. Delayed the relocating by not going all the way back to the wall and continued fucking about until I went right to the wall and got a concrete position. Returned to the control after nearly 8 minutes of leaving the circle the first time. Fi fan. now in 64th.

Shrugged, and carried on. Steady through the next few, lost time on 5 just again not seeing it (reading the description might've helped. Will Rigg arrived catching 8 minutes.

The rest was spent with Will, mostly behind to be fair as I was struggling physically but got past him occasionally doing my own thing. Re-caught the NTNUI guy and Mikey Adams and was spiking everytihing, just not moving very fast.

Tried to go straight on 23 and missed, pack gone, and lungs just exploded. Head went a bit too, and struggled to pinpoint my location to 24 despite Eddie's help, and just haemorraghed time on the pure running end. Ouch.

Not in a good way afterwards. One mistake fucking it up again.

Day 2 - Balfour Forest

Felt brain dead before I even started so just walked and sat down instead of a warm up. Delighted to see it was 1:10 today and the forest was generally really nice, a relief after finding yesterday tough.

Small miss on 3, seemed quite low? Pretty clean on the most part, with small misses at 9 and 19. For the most part was straight lines but just s little hesitant occasionally.

Basically just couldn't run fast enough today, effort not equalling performance. Ho hum, couldn't have done hugely better, had the benefit of s few Trods so must've been even quicker later on

Always good to beat Willy (barber, leVe it)
