Friday Feb 28

X-C Skiing (Local track) 25:00 [2]4 km (6:15 / km)
Night skiing with Greg.

Thursday Feb 27

X-C Skiing (Local) 30:00 [2]4 km (7:30 / km)
Frozen track with some packed powder; used purple klister just fine.

Wednesday Feb 26

X-C Skiing (Local fields and trails) 36:00 [2]4 km (9:00 / km)
Breaking up frozen crust and cleaning up sticks on track.

Monday Feb 24

Cross Training (Shoveling roof) 40:00 [2]
Planned to ski, but got home late and decided to remove some snow off the roof. Still have about 30" up there. With warm temperatures coming have to watch out for ice dams on the north side. Oops, wait, checked the forecast and it's supposed to get back to minus 20F tomorrow night. Guess I can finish later (maybe in June).

Saturday Feb 22

X-C Skiing (American Birkebeiner race) 4:49:53 [4]51 km (5:41 / km)
Just me and about 6,000 others. Most skated; I went classic for this year. Temp cold as expected; low teens. Felt great right up through the end. Expected to tire, but they had aid stations every 6-7 km with energy drinks and food, so it was easy to keep well-stocked. Ended up 14th in age group classic. ytd 365

Friday Feb 21

X-C Skiing (Birkie prep) 44:00 [2]6 km (7:20 / km)
Checking out section around 5-8 km. Temp now about 10F and due to drop below zero. Everything icy. Will use klister for kick (am skiing classic).

Thursday Feb 20

X-C Skiing (Birkie prep) 38:00 [2]6 km (6:20 / km)
In Hayward, WI for the American Birkebeiner xc ski race. Skied a short section of the middle of the course, by OO Road. Rolling hills. Very warm, ~45F and sloppy. Temp should drop tonight and set everything up. Not much snow -- went from 3' in VT to 3" here.

Tuesday Feb 18

X-C Skiing 43:00 [2]4 km (10:45 / km)
Easy circuits around the fields. Packed out 10" of new snowfall.

Monday Feb 17

X-C Skiing (Viking Nordic Center, VT) 1:50:00 [3]18 km (6:07 / km)
Skiing with Boris, Misha and Ruthie. Nice terrain and trail network. Conditions ok, but must have been heavily skied over the weekend. Track glazed; not getting good kick from the green and then blue wax used. Storm coming in and starting to drop new snow. 298km

Sunday Feb 16

X-C Skiing (Short ski-o champs Red) 53:42 [5]7.5 km (7:10 / km)
Gunstock, warmer today: plus 1F at start. Trouble getting map into case, lost about a minute. Misread map going to 3rd control, had to backtrack. Lots of route choices; not all of mine were optimum. Again, skated a lot. Next time will change the bindings on my skate skis and use them.
X-C Skiing (Cool down) 42:00 [4]6 km (7:00 / km)
Did another circuit while still warm. Worked on skating the up hills.
X-C Skiing (Easy loop with Ruthie.) 47:00 [2]6 km (7:50 / km)
Fun loop on the Gunstock trails.

Saturday Feb 15

X-C Skiing (Ski-o Champs Red) 1:26:52 [5]13 km (6:41 / km)
Bretton Woods. Windy and cold. High for the day was about zero F. No mistakes, some confusion on first control, then went well. Felt good to be ski racing again after 25 years. Used classic skis and waxed for kick, but skated about half the course.
X-C Skiing (Bretton Woods) 55:00 [2]5 km (11:00 / km)
Loosened up after sittting around for awhile. Picked up controls.

Friday Feb 14

X-C Skiing 33:00 [2]6 km (5:30 / km)
3 laps around trail. Actually got down to 18 below last night. Tonight is supposed to be a little cooler.

Thursday Feb 13

X-C Skiing 59:00 [2]8 km (7:22 / km)
Tracks in field wiped out by blowing snow. New snow helped the tracks in the woods quite a bit. Kind of chilly at 8F. Should get down to 15 below tonight, colder over the weekend.

Monday Feb 10

X-C Skiing 55:00 [2]6 km (9:10 / km)
One lap grooming, one lap fast and two short laps in the dark with no headlamp. Snowing gently now; should pick up another 2-4" on top of our 18-28" base.

Sunday Feb 9

X-C Skiing 45:00 [1]3 km (15:00 / km)
Couple loops to clear sticks from track and to check out trails for next year.
X-C Skiing (Grafton Ponds) 1:00:00 [3]10 km (6:00 / km)
Icy track, too lazy to rewax with klister; had no kick. Worked on skating and double poling.
Apparently Joe was up for an adventure ski-o, but I got there too late to see him and Pavlina.

Saturday Feb 8

X-C Skiing 2:25:00 [3]21 km (6:54 / km) +500m 6:10 / km
First long workout in a while. Felt great. Mix of classic and skating. Good blue wax day.

Thursday Feb 6

X-C Skiing 35:00 [2]4 km (8:45 / km)
Hacking around fields on frozen track. Blue klister worked fine, but track is in poor condition. Neighbor postholed one corner of field. Need a couple inches of fresh snow.

Wednesday Feb 5

X-C Skiing (Grafton Ponds) 33:00 [3]7 km (4:43 / km)
Frozen conditions. Purple klister; not enough on for good kick, but fast.
Cross Training 1:00:00 [2]
Chopping, shovelling heavy ice chunks from side of driveway.

Monday Feb 3

Weight Training 30:00 [4]
3 x 30 squats, wall wgts, presses, curls
pull ups 10/5/5

Sunday Feb 2

Cross Training (Downhill skiing) 2:30:00 [2]
All day, but only counting half the time. Windy and heavy cloud cover blanketing slopes; visibility not great. Mostly cruising.

Saturday Feb 1

X-C Skiing (Grafton Ponds) 3:00:00 [2]15 km (12:00 / km) +250m 11:05 / km
32F +/- 1F => no wax was particularly good. Easy workout, except hard on arms.
Cross Training (Snowshoeing) 1:00:00 [4]2.0 mi (29:59 / mi) +200m 14:13 / km
Quick tour up along top of ridge. Some wet snow to break trail; other places Dan had been last week.
