Easy to check collarbone/sternum jct from bike fall. Felt ok so far; still needs mobility work. More hot tub time.
Sunday Nov 27 | ||
| X-C Skiing (Kingdom Valley XC) 1:30:00 [2]7 km (12:51 / km) | ||
| Playing around the fields, and then the Pines with Greg. I was using my rock skis with the busted tail, which he thought was amusing until he ripped the binding out of my old old Fischers and really had busted skis.
Got about 4" snow on Thanksgiving which has settled to 2-3". Ok for grass skiiing, but light for the Pines. Will be gone tomorrow. Good to get in the mood. Waiting for the dump of 15" to really get us going. Hot tub therapy has worked well on my muscle tear. Skipped Mt Tom yesterday as it was inviting disaster for my hamstring. Too bad, as I always enjoy the post-Thanksgiving o-race.

| Event: Manchester Road Race | ||
| Road Race race (Manchester) 37:23 [5]4.75 mi (7:51 / mi) vdot: 40.3 | ||
| Snow overnight, but roads cleared ok. Got Kenny's pass to the front of the start, but hardly did any justice to it. Nice to be at the front of 10,000 runners.
First mile ok, pushed a steady pace up the hill for mile two, then started to develop a knot in my left hamstring on the way down. Tried to push after the 3 mile mark and leg totally cramped. Think this was the same muscle tear from last spring's Billygoat. Kept moving, but dropped the pace a lot and was happy to just finish. 7.18 / 9.02 / 7.29 / 7.48 / 5.44 Ready for the therapy pool. Dan had a great time again this year at 28:45!
Monday Nov 21 | ||

| Great day today, but no time for training as I had to get conduit in the ground for the hot tub. Under orders to have it cooking in time to parboil some turkeys next weekend. | ||

| Last mile started getting knots in glutes. Bothered me a bit running the hills at the long-o last weekend -- may still be sore. | ||

| O - competition race (Fair Hill Long-O Green x) 1:23:46 [5]9.1 km (9:12 / km) | ||
| Good solid run on familiar mid-Atlantic terrain. Nice to be back on rolling reentrant and rootstock territory. No problems with navigation; had clear visualization of nearly all the control locations. Paid the price of less running this year -- felt it on the long grinds up the pastures.
3rd M-55. | ||
Green X Long - Splits | ||
Saturday Nov 12 | ||
| O - competition (Fair Hill Green X) 43:12 [5]5.1 km (8:28 / km) | ||

| Bicycling (Fair Hill) 45:00 [2]9.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| Easy ride touring horse country after the o-race. Pretty stone farm houses and pasture, winding streams. | ||

| Adventure Race (US ARA Nationals) 27:30:00 [3]80.0 mi (20:37 / mi) | ||
| Not used to suburbs like this! Just outside of Tampa, FL; starting a couple hundred meters from office parks and homes: Hillsboro River SPk, another world entirely!
Started on foot, with a short scramble to mix up teams. Then some std o with rogaine quality maps. Had an optional river crossing using a rope monkey bridge -- looked like a slower route so we ran further up river and swam across. Then a canoeing section, with a long, long passage down thru Hillsboro River wilderness area; river serpentined and dissipated into mangrove swamp; lots of downed trees, portages dragging over, under; lots of mud; where did the river go? Then a loop back on bikes with a nice mud hole up to my chest. On foot again; dark, back at rope bridge again. Took it this time. Couple nasty km deep in mangrove swamp. Knee deep mud/water; stumbling over cypress knees. Looking around in darkness for control and saw two red beady eyes looking back just at water level -- alligator! Picked up a lot of time on this leg as there was an unmapped trail parallel to the one everyone wanted. We relocated early, but others lost hours. But lost time leaving control as our stopping feature -- rough road -- was under water and we kept on going. Then more mud, palmettos, biking, and some more canoeing with a little mini-o mixed in. So did pretty well; fine steady effort by Brad and Tracey. Ended up 5th Masters; not sure of overall yet.
