Monday Dec 31

Trail Running (Gunpowder Sweathouse Br) 44:15 [3]5.1 mi (8:39 / mi)
Good run with Kenny. Smooth trail with a few short hills.

Sunday Dec 30

Backpacking (Hike out -- snowshoeing) 3:00:00 [2]7.5 mi (24:00 / mi)
Pulled sled (weight now 65#, using a daypack to carry 20#).

Saturday Dec 29

Mountain Climbing (Donalson & Emmons) 6:00:00 [3]7.0 mi (51:25 / mi)
Reclimbed herd path, since we missed Emmons on Friday. Had to go over Donaldson on the way. This was much easier -- basically a trail with a few fallen trees to go over and under. Still 2,000' climb (plus a little).

Friday Dec 28

Mountain Climbing (Bushwack -- Donaldson Mt) 12:15:00 [4]7.0 mi (1:45:00 / mi)
An off trail climb up a remote part of the Seward Range. Looked interesting on a topo map, so thought we'd give it a try. Like most topo maps, this didn't show blowdowns, spruce thickets and rock bands. Think dark green, on snowshoes. Made the going slow, wet and vigorous. Now we know why this isn't the usual approach. Got to summit about an hour after dark, followed a herd path back down to camp. 2,000' climb.

Thursday Dec 27

Backpacking (Hike into base camp) 2:30:00 [3]3.5 mi (42:51 / mi)
Hauling a heavy sled (90#) on snowshoes. Trail lumpy and with not too much cover -- made going tough.
X-C Skiing (Adirondacks, NY) 35:00 [3]4.0 mi (8:44 / mi)
Dropped packs at end of road and then parked back closer to highway -- road is not plowed in winter. Snow cover is building and didn't know how much to expect over the next 4 days. Might not be able to make it out.
Skied from car back to packs. Ready for some climbing with Greg and Rob Kelley.

Tuesday Dec 25

Trail Running (Gunpowder Falls) 47:30 [2]5.0 mi (9:29 / mi)
Easy rest day run. Kenny was playing with his gps and Greg and I were
chasing ducks along the river.

Monday Dec 24

Trail Running (Cromwell Valley Park) 51:00 [2]5.0 mi (10:11 / mi)
Touring the park with Kenny. Some off trail through the woods.
It's quite open this time of year with the vegatation died down.
Weight Training (Squats/crunches/presses) 20:00 [3]

Sunday Dec 23

O-course Training (Little Bennett Park) 1:13:00 [4]7.2 km (10:08 / km)
Ran course laid out by Kenny; 26 controls.
Angled off one leg and had to double back (1 min).
Lost map position in a cluster of controls and overshot leg for a long
mistake (300m, 5 min).
Good forest, still thinning out.
Trail Running (Warm up / cool down) 7:00 [1]1 km (7:00 / km)

Saturday Dec 22

Road Running (WLIF road run) 33:52 [2]4.0 mi (8:28 / mi)
Easy road run while waiting for Kenny to recover from workouts Thurs/Fri.

Friday Dec 21

O-course Training (Soldier's Delight) 1:10:00 [3]6 km (11:40 / km)
Map running with Kenny.
Fighting briars whenever we left the barrens area.

Thursday Dec 20

Trail Running (Gunpowder Falls St Pk) 45:00 [3]5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
Running the Ma/Pa section with Kenny and Greg. Good to put the flatlanders on some hills.
Nice clear day with a bit of chilly wind.

Monday Dec 17

Trail Running (Big Gunpowder Falls) 1:14:00 [3]8.0 mi (9:15 / mi)
Belair Rd to Lost Pond and then back past to Stockdale loop.
Pine forest, boulders and more boulders -- can this be Maryland?

Saturday Dec 15

O-course Training (Hanging controls) 1:25:00 [2]5.0 mi (17:00 / mi)
Hidden Valley scout camp, PA. Hung controls for o-course and then toured around camp property.
O - competition (Yellow course) 22:24 [4]3.9 km (5:45 / km)
Ran o-course and picked up controls. Time includes taking down controls and tieing them up.

Wednesday Dec 12

Trail Running (Loch Raven trails) 1:10:00 [2]6.8 mi (10:17 / mi)

Tuesday Dec 11

Off Trail Running (Little Gunpowder Falls) 1:06:00 [2]5.0 mi (13:11 / mi)
Morning run along the Little Gunpowder Falls. Nice after several days of rains. Lots of trees chewed down. No sign of the beavers; maybe they commute from Cambridge.

Monday Dec 10

Weight Training (Wgts,crunches,jumps) 30:00 [3]

Sunday Dec 9

Off Trail Running (Loch Raven Reservoir) 33:00 [2]3.2 mi (10:17 / mi)

Felt like a slug. Weather hot (65) for December.

Wednesday Dec 5

Road Running (WLIF run) 35:00 [2]4.0 mi (8:44 / mi)
Sluggish today, stiff from weight work yesterday.

Tuesday Dec 4

Monday Dec 3

Road Running (WLIF road run) 31:00 [4]4.0 mi (7:45 / mi)
Tempo run.

Sunday Dec 2

Trail Running (Warm up) 5:00 [2]0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
O - competition (Bowie, MD - Red) 1:04:03 [5]7 km (9:09 / km)
Good course on the Fran Uhler map. Thanks Peggy.
Ran smooth, with speed at times. Three legs with minor hesitation (20-30 sec) and two legs where I hit unmapped green briars -- 30 sec there, too.
Water is down, so you could run right up the marshes.

Red - Splits

Saturday Dec 1

Walking (Breakneck Ridge, NY) 3:00:00 [2]6.0 mi (29:59 / mi)
Hike in the Hudson Highlands opposite Storm King Mtn. Clear, warm day with beautiful views all the way to NYC. Trail climbs right up the cliff face.
