Thursday Jan 30

X-C Skiing 42:00 [3]6 km (7:00 / km)
Wind packed snow and track set in fields. Snow okay but track needs some work.
162

Wednesday Jan 29

Mountain Climbing (Giant Mtn, Adk NY) 8:00:00 [3]6.0 mi (1:20:00 / mi) +700m 36:29 / km
Bushwacked 2 miles up gully choked with saplings and 4' snow to base of Bottle Slide. Used Dan as a snowplow to break trail. Found face covered with 3' layer of unconsolidated snow. Not good conditions to proceed, so had to bail out and try again another day. That's what happens when there's no Jan thaw or rain to glue the snow together.

Sunday Jan 26

X-C Skiing 1:00:00 [1]2.5 km (24:00 / km)
Packing drifts and picking up branches on track.
Cross Training (Snowshoeing) 2:30:00 [2]4.0 mi (37:29 / mi) +350m 18:19 / km
Climb part way up Mt Ascutney with Dan looking for some ice to climb. No luck but nice tour and finding route back down in the dark.

Thursday Jan 23

Road Running (Burlington, VT) 38:35 [2]4.2 mi (9:12 / mi)
Still cold at 0F, but not much wind so it feels balmy. Actually had to take my gloves off 'cause I was hot.

Wednesday Jan 22

Road Running (Burlington, VT) 34:00 [2]4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
Weather still bitter ( 0F and -20F wind chill), but have finally gotten enough layers (2 on legs, 4 torso, 2 hats, 2 pr gloves) so I carry along my own cloud of temperate air. Felt ok until coming back against strong wind and it sucked away my breath.

Tuesday Jan 21

Cross Training 45:00 [3]2.0 mi (22:30 / mi)
15 min running outside in very windy, cold weather (0F).
15 min on bike.
15 min on stepper.

Monday Jan 20

Bicycling 35:00 [2]
Exercise bike 25 min plus 10 flights of stairs.
Road Running 14:00 [3]1.5 mi (9:20 / mi)
Burlington: bitterly cold wind. Just a quick loop to relax legs after sitting all day.

Sunday Jan 19

Trail Running (Warm up / cool down) 15:00 [2]1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
O - competition (GA Nav Cup Red2) 1:04:48 [5]6.5 km (9:58 / km) +180m 8:45 / km
spiked:10/11c
Pushed harder today. No mistakes.
Still nothing to show for speed.
Picked up 2 places to finish 3rd in M45, 4 sec out of 2nd.

Red Day 2 - Splits

Saturday Jan 18

Trail Running (Warm up) 10:00 [2]1 km (10:00 / km)
O - competition (GA Nav Cup Red1) 1:18:47 [5]7.6 km (10:22 / km) +270m 8:48 / km
spiked:11/14c
Navigation clean, one aim off in wrong direction cost 2 min. Limited by lack of running in past month. Felt ok, just slow. 5th in M45.

Red - Splits

Thursday Jan 16

X-C Skiing 1:03:00 [3]8 km (7:52 / km)
Couple full loops at about 10 min and a bunch of field loops after it got dark. Includes time repairing track where animal postholed it. Not really at a fast pace due to condition of track.
Will be interesting to see how I feel in GA. Haven't run in a month, but have done lots of cross training and xc skiing.

Wednesday Jan 15

X-C Skiing 53:00 [3]8 km (6:38 / km)
Skiing by moonlight. Found a headlamp with red led's. Actually quite good on snow -- shows better contrast than white.
Temp 10F and falling fast again tonight. Used VR 40 in kick zone; kind of at its lower end, but still ok. 146
State highway crew came by today and removed the 7' piles at the end of my driveway with a front end loader. Good thing -- now there's some room to plow out by the road.

Monday Jan 13

X-C Skiing 1:00:00 [2]6 km (10:00 / km)
Easy skiing at dusk with George. Track ok, but some windblown areas needed repacking. Still not set up too firmly. Kick not great.

Sunday Jan 12

Cross Training 1:00:00 [2]
Upper body/back -- shoveling snowbanks after plowing driveway wider.
If we get another 20" storm, we're cooked.
X-C Skiing 2:05:00 [3]14.5 km (8:37 / km)
Reset track after 4 days of flurries and drifting snow. Had to ski each pole track to pack it down. Did manage a couple 2 km loops at 10 min. Track still soft, so could not kick hard or it would crush. Sitting on top of 2' of base, so foundation isn't too firm. 132

Tuesday Jan 7

X-C Skiing 31:00 [4]6 km (5:10 / km)
Track around house x 3 @ about 10 min. After dark with dying headlamp.
Kick wax too warm; pole track not set and caving in under pressure.
X-C Skiing (Cool down) 23:00 [2]2 km (11:30 / km)
Skied around pole tracks to pack snow.

Monday Jan 6

X-C Skiing 40:00 [2]5 km (8:00 / km)
Skiing and setting more track. Also about 40 min of snowshowing packing out the pole tracks and hills.

Sunday Jan 5

Cross Training (Snowshoeing) 1:00:00 [2]
Breaking more tracks. Added a few extra loops to trail system.
Cross Training 2:00:00 [2]
More breaking trail and packing out snowfall.
X-C Skiing 1:00:00 [2]6 km (10:00 / km)
Actually a chance to start setting tracks again. Will need to widen turns for skating and hills for herringbone, but it's a start. Have some interesting variations of the trails, since 30" of snowpack covers up a lot of features (including stone walls). 104
Cross Training (Snow shoveling) 1:00:00 [3]
Cleaning up driveway and parking area. Have to find room for the next big dump of snow -- not many places left.

Saturday Jan 4

Cross Training (Snow shoveling) 2:00:00 [2]
Cleaning up after plowing 20" inches of today's storm. Had to remove top of snow banks by hand, since plow won't push snow up and over when the banks are over 4' high.
Cross Training (Snowshoeing) 2:00:00 [2]
First pass at packing ski trails. Maybe next year we'll get a snowmobile to pack the trails.

Friday Jan 3

X-C Skiing 43:00 [2]6 km (7:10 / km)
Evening skiing in heavy snowfall. 8" so far and the storm is still coming.

Thursday Jan 2

X-C Skiing (Grafton Ponds) 1:20:00 [3]15 km (5:20 / km)
X-C Skiing (Kingdom Valley) 40:00 [2]4 km (10:00 / km)
More skiing around home with Greg. Resetting track after last night's sleet and snow. 92
Weight Training 5:00 [3]
Crunches 2 x 50. Got to get the stomach back in shape after all the holiday eating.

Wednesday Jan 1

Cross Training (Upper body/back) 4:00:00 [2]
Felling / bucking / hauling / splitting 18" tree; good for about a cord of wood. Tree dead, so can burn this season.
