| Paddle, run and mtn bike bike around Mt Snow, VT. With Tracey Olafsen and Brad Whitmore.
Used kayak paddles to good effect on canoeing section. Were 8th out of the water of 40 teams. Running was a long yellow course along the Catamount Trail. Picked up two places on the run. Mtn biked up over shoulder of Mt Snow and around the ski and bike trails of area. My slow biking and a flat on one of the bikes dropped us back the 8th. Were 7th coed team of 25.
Felt good, no blisters; need hill workouts.
Thanks to Erin and Steve for team support! |

| Up at first light and hiking at 5AM. Hiked the uphills and ran where trail conditions permitted. Art and crew were taking 2 days to do this, but I wanted to come out today. Beautiful rolling section of trail, traversing ridgetop meadows and dropping into hardwood and pine forests. Wildflowers were in full bloom; with species and colors changing as elevation dropped.
Once the food was gone and water down to a liter or so, the pack was 7#; really nice for running (eat your heart out, Tooks).
Out of food by the time I got to W Hartford, planned takeout spot. General store open so I had a greasy bacon cheeseburger and bag of doritos. Felt so good after that I decided to keep on going. Ended up another 8 mlies or so over the river in NH. |
Saturday Jul 3 |
 | Backpacking (AT Killington east) 7:15:00 [2] 15.5 mi (28:03 / mi) +1500m 13:24 / km | |

| With Art Portmore and 2 friends hiking from Rte 4 E to CT River. Weather perfect, great views. Very light camelback (is it still backpacking when it only weighs 12 lbs?) and moving along pretty good. Rolled up in a tarp to bivy overnight. Had to hike an extra mile or so when we found our planned campsite area was occupied by a party grouop; came up a jeep trail along with generator and electric guitars. |
