Sunday Oct 30 | ||
| Bicycling (Mt Taber Rd) 1:25:00 [2]11.0 mi (7:43 / mi) | ||
| Up Mt Tabor Rd to Devil's Den with Ruthie. Lots of downed trees on road. Planned to go further, but past Devil's Den the road was covered with 4" snow and slush from last week's storms. Nice coast back down to car. Can't wait to start skiing once the road is closed and snow builds up -- about 40 km RT to far gate -- and 3,200' climb. | ||

Six laps around the fields with Casey.

Tuesday Oct 18 | ||
| Bicycling tempo (Pleasant Valley ccw) 36:49 [4]10.0 mi (3:40 / mi) | ||
| Good bike ride in light drizzle. Mix of paved and dirt roads. Legs felt fine and recently abused knee was also okay. Rain not a factor, although held speed to under 30 mph coming down the final hill. Splits:
Down and across GMtnTpke 15.03 Back up PV 21.46 Seems that the other direction (cw) is just a bit faster. Will have to try that next time.
Sunday Oct 16 | ||
| O - competition (Boulder Dash II) 1:09:21 [4]5.1 mi (13:35 / mi) +140m 7:47 / km | ||
| Better day today. Cautious in the difficult terrain and did well. Did make a couple mistakes elsewhere, however, for 9 min total. Knee was functional if not pleasant to run on. | ||
Green Day 2 - Splits | ||
Saturday Oct 15 | ||
| Event: Boulder Dash | ||
| O - competition race (Boulder Dash I) 1:29:28 [4]4.8 km (18:38 / km) +255m 14:44 / km | ||
| Lots of sloppy orienteering and costly mistakes. Four major errors for 30 min. Did not scrutinize the complex area around 4-6 close enough and paid dearly. Much thrashing around. Good fall going to six and slammed my knee again. | ||
Green Day 1 - Splits | ||
Thursday Oct 13 | ||
| Road Running (Cummings Rd) 22:00 [3]2.2 mi (10:00 / mi) | ||
| Morning run with Casey. | ||

Wall wgts 4 x 30 | ||
Tuesday Oct 11 | ||
| Bicycling (Mtn biking) 20:00 [3]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi) | ||
| With Dan around ski trails. Last third was late evening when we were testing lights in the drizzle. Dan made me a super LED headlamp w/Li Ion battery that puts out 12W. Like a car headlight. Tested over 24 hours at low power. | ||
Sunday Oct 9 | ||
| Weight Training 10:00 [4] | ||
| Pullups
Wall wgts 4 x 25 Then spent the day chainsawing downed timber, while Dan was ripping up the hillside with the kubota.
| Note | ||
| Had 6" rain Friday nite - this morning. Stream was in flood and got witin a foot of going over driveway. Last night night was thundering thru the overflow culvert. Beaver dam innundated, but looks still intact today. | ||
Friday Oct 7 | ||
| Note | ||
| Knee hurting today. Have to skip the hill runs for a couple days. | ||
Thursday Oct 6 | ||
| Trail Running hills (Okemo Mtn) 59:00 [4]2.9 mi (20:21 / mi) +600m 7:42 / km | ||
| Up backside of Okemo (Healdville Trail). On top of the fire tower as the sun went down. Felt a bit slower than Tuesday. | ||
| Trail Running (Okemo descent) 1:16:00 [1]2.9 mi (26:12 / mi) | ||
| Slipped on mossy rock right at top and whacked knee. Nice way to start down...
Ran half way in growing dusk and then hit utter darkness. (Note to self: it gets dark earlier in the fall; same thing happended Tuesday). Let my feet talk to me and kept a cautious walking pace down the tread path and all 12 switchbacks. Only worried about falling off the abutment of the bridge at the bottom that just has one timber left across it. Actually could hear the stream at that point, so that was ok. (Another note to self: bring a light along next time, knucklehead!)

Tuesday Oct 4 | ||
| Road Running hills (Mt Ascutney) 50:06 [4]3.7 mi (13:32 / mi) +700m 5:18 / km | ||
| max:146 weight:159lbs | ||
| Mile intervals up Ascutney auto road to parking lot on top. Stopped at each milepost for one minute. Felt pretty good considering I just starting to work on hills again.
Splits: 14.07, 13.37, 13.38, 8.44
| C • 2 | ||
| Road Running (Ascutney down) 49:00 [2]5.3 mi (9:15 / mi) +90m 5:27 / km | ||
| From parking lot on top up trail 0.7 mi to summit, and then back down to bottom in dusk. Some punishment on knees, as grade hits 20% in places. | ||
Monday Oct 3 | ||
| Off Trail Running hills (Boulder Hill) 40:00 [3]3.0 mi (13:19 / mi) | ||
| Up and around boulder hill. Talked to the owner building the house on top of "my" hill. Got his ok to come visit the boulder regularly.
Doing hills again to keep up with my phG partner.
| Bicycling (Ski trails) 10:00 [3]1.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | ||
| Through Pines and the Plunge. Up the Drop turn. Keeping the mtn bike legs loose. | ||
Saturday Oct 1 | ||
| Adventure Race race (Genesis Harriman) 11:30:00 [4]40.0 mi (17:14 / mi) | ||
| Trek followed by orienteering, kayaking with lots of brutal portaging, and a shortened bike section. Nice o-course by Daniel.
Nav got us into 2nd coed, well ahead of the pack. Kept position thru most of kayaking and slipped to 3rd at end during 1-1/2 mile final portage. Switched in and out during bike, but finished 1 minute out of second for third for the day and the series. Good race series for phast Generation -- next is the US ARA champs in Nov.
